The Old Guard rewatch reminders:

Booker was adding whiskey to Andy's teacup in Marrakech, not his own.

Merrick's investors speech is talking about adding collective decades to the global lifespan (or something) while I'm reading Everything Is Tuberculosis and that decades could and should be added just by getting the drugs that already exist where the disease already is. Is. Just. Frustrating.

Nile's friends being so weirded out by her but not like DOING anything, just alienating her when she feels unreal. Makes me sad for her but sets her up well.

Joe's little tappy tappy on Nicky's arm when they dream of Nile.

I fully believe Andy was letting Nile land some good hits on the plane just to feel something.

She wants to talk to her family - Andy looks at Joe when she says that, which is interesting to me!

"still with me?" Is Andy's go to phrase when someone has died, and I love it.

Despite knowing Booker is Done with being immortal she still begs him back to life in the church.

Andy is such a force of nature and I love the shots of her just standing there, staring Nile down

Booker's backstory speech about "you'll know what it means to be alone" followed by Andy being stitched up "we're not meant to be alone" and it's making me feel a bit keen for an isolationist villian.

"I killed the guy that killed me" is such a great line, Nile

Andy has such a softness in her face when she lets Nile go before they move in on Copley's house.

Andy fully screams when Booker puts the zip ties on her and it hurts so much.

They really do fight scenes like it's a dance and they just know where everyone is. I go ahead of you, you bypass me, a weapon for you, I know what gun you're using and I'm counting your bullets and providing your ammunition.

After Nile jumps from the penthouse with Merrick, just before she gets in the car and escapes, I love her moment where she paused and looks up at the broken window above her and considers what she did, and her face changes. I think this is the moment she decides to really be part of the team.

The Old Guard (2020)

I appreciate the fact that the Old Guard seems to implicitly understand what a lot of action movies don't: guns run out of ammo, but blades never run out of blade.

Like, it looks cool to have them running in there with old school swords, etc, but the kill floor fight makes it VERY clear that it's also a huge tactical advantage. The Guard can use gunfire as cover to close the distance to the enemy line, and then by the time they're close enough to use a blade, they're past the effective range of a gun. You CAN be shot within that range, obviously, but (especially with bigger guns) it gets hard to maneuver a good shot and much easier to be disarmed. So they just use up their bullets closing the gap, under their own cover fire, and then shove a sword into someone's throat.

This is the inherent advantage to bayonets. It is also why many kinds of bayonet violate the Geneva Convention.
