Scientists have recently conducted research using nitric oxide on roundworms in the lab. They fed the organism bacteria that could manufacture nitric oxide and found that the round worm lived for a significantly longer period of time. This news has scientists wondering about the impact of the molecule on humans and how the multitude of microbial cells within our bodies all help to contribute to our overall health...

The power of 3D printers is once again put on display as Nanoscribe GmbH has released photographs of the tiny spaceship they've created. This spaceship, with a mere length of 70 microns, is a model of the Wing Commander Hellcat. The organization that was able to print this tiny model is part of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which means that KIT campuses everywhere are now using this technology...

Electric batteries are no longer only being used by cars. Right now, the first electric car ferry, called ZeroCat, is being developed in Norway. The ferry currently in use between Lavik and Oppedal requires 264,000 gallons of fuel per year. As you can see, that is quite a bit of fuel to have to pay for and use up in the process. ZeroCat will use an 800 KWh battery weighing 11 tons. While the battery is rather heavy, the ZeroCat will weigh less than a normal ferry by half because of its design, which has been tailored for efficiency...

Have you ever wanted to design your own while learning about it in the process? There currently exists such a game. It's called "Selene: A Lunar Construction GaME." The future is here. All those science fiction books and the awe-inspiring technologies they spoke of are starting to manifest in reality. Today's prominent example of this is Google's Project Glass. This project centers on a display unit in the form of a headset. The headset is able to show video and play audio and merely has to be to plugged into the computing unit on the side of the glasses by a power connector to be recharged. This means the device can be recharged at any point wherever you are...

Fifty-eight year old pioneer of genomics and synthetic biology George Church has revealed that he is very close to being able to clone a Neanderthal baby. In case you've forgotten, Neanderthals are Pleistocene-era humanoids that have been extinct for over 30,000 years. Church claims to have extracted enough DNA from fossils that he can bring this idea to fruition. All he says he needs is an "adventurous female human" to act as a surrogate mother, which means the woman would carry the child until it's ready to be born...

Soon, the G4 channel will be no more. The gaming channel is losing its last gaming content, with the cancellation of Attack of the Show and XPlay. With their departure, a new channel will be ushered in: the Esquire Channel. Designed for the "modern male," the Esquire Channel will feature cooking shows, travel shows, and other things that appeal to the modern metrosexual. Quite a big departure for a channel that once strived to be the ultimate source for video game news...

NASA is broken. So says a report produced by a commission commissioned by NASA itself. NASA is so broken, in fact, that there is no clear way to fix it. The problems are obvious even to the layman: NASA has no focus, and NASA lacks strong leadership...

In another bit of big news to come out of NASA, the US space agency has reported that there is water ice on Mercury, the closest planet to the sun. Which is quite remarkable. considering that the surface temperature of the sun-facing side is 426 degrees Celcius, that's quite remarkable. And while the portion in shade is much, much cooler, Mercury still rotates...

There are a million video formats, and even more audio ones. VLC plays them all, and that is why it has been on every computer I've owned since I heard about it years ago. But while VLC has been ported to almost every platform known to man, there is one that is noticably missing: Windows 8 Metro...

While we might not hear much about spaceplanes these days, some companies still think there's potential there. And the major player in that field is Skylon, a proposed spaceplane with a hybrid air-breathing and rocket engine. Until recently, the device was only a proposal, a concept undergoing fundamental testing. But now the revolutionary engine that powers the spaceplane has gotten approval from the European Space Agency, and the thing has gotten much, much more real...
