i like to think iblis has a slight psychic link with mephiles. it’s not the most stable link due to them being split apart for so long, but they’re able to kinda sense where mephiles is. they are also able to sense who mephiles is close to / likes & hates, which will effect how they behave around those people. chances are they will be drawn to people solaris cared about / people mephiles cares about if they are ever left to their own devices

A creature seemingly made of lava would be out of place anywhere ( not to mention dangerous ) so naturally he can’t just leave it alone. They don’t answer, at least not immediately. The truth is, even they are unsure what they are... It’s hard to remember consciously when they are not around their other half. There’s a long silence before eventually, a voice sounds from their form. Oddly enough, their voice might sound a little familiar to the hedgehog, as it was once one they shared with a certain demon he knows. “ ... Sono Iblis. ( I am Iblis. ) ”

They don’t... appear to be aggressive. They only continue to stare at Shadow, head beginning to tilt to the side, almost as if intrigued by him. “ ... Shadow. Sei un amico ? ( Friend ? ) ”

in terms of forms they can take, iblis can shapeshift to a certain extent. they can appear as an open flame that can grow exponentially if not contained, a puddle of lava, their base form, or a smaller, more condensed version of the super golem silver fight’s in 06 - which is more or less the size of the monstrous form mephiles can take on during his final boss fight.

It takes them several minutes to process and understand this question. How to recognize and describe the way they felt about their other half... Not an easy task for the mindless golem. It is a question that required them to think, and it was so much easier for them to just act. They hurt us, we have to defend ourself. They took from us, so we take from them. But what are they to do when one half hurts the other? What are they to do when one half takes from the other? How are they to understand that the hurt they feel is grief? And is it their own? ( Was it ever their own...? ) 

“ Mephiles ... ” the golem finally speaks, staring blankly ahead. “ You are different. ( Siamo diversi. ) ”

There is another long pause as they try to formulate words in their shell of a mind. “ Il riccio era... il nostro amico. ( Il nostro amico. ) ” Another pause. They seem to be struggling now, as their reptilian irises begin to shake. Are you mad at me? They simply don’t know how to be. So instead, they ask. “ What do you want ? Cosa vuole Solaris ? ... Iblis dovrebbe essere qui ? ”

thinking about it and it actually makes a lot of sense for iblis to go apeshit after elise dies in the bad timeline because instability and suffering aside, thats another vessel down the drain. like imagine you’re iblis, you just got torn in half and lost your consciousness and have no idea wtf is going on, but then you get sealed away in this girl’s soul who kinda becomes like. a stand-in for mephiles at this point. and you exist 10 years like that. and then she dies and you lose that stability too. like, iblis has a hard time understanding it, but goddamn are they tired of losing their mind (literally)

what i think is interesting about iblis is they really don’t have a motive. they just want to be stable again. that’s it really.

The golem continues to stare blankly, their trembling slowly ceasing when they hear their other half speak. It’s difficult to understand the words that he is saying. Not because of the alternating language, but simply because there is nothing there to understand them. His voice passes through their hollow being like wind brushing past a tree stripped barren, and they are silent for several minutes. Then, eventually, they repeat back one word, one that stood out to them among the rest. “ Niente ? ”

Iblis’ grip on the other suddenly tightens, a grip that would crush any mortal bone structure. Jagged claws pierce through his shoulders, through his ‘flesh’, and the golem begins to tremble again, indicating they were distressed. Their voice sounds frantic, glimpses and fragments of terrible, terrible memories passing through their empty mind ( Memories they have no way of knowing if they were their own. ) “ Mephiles, fa male. Fa male. Fa male. Non finisce. ”

Lava pools under their eyes, dripping from their face and onto the ground. They hang their head even more, and they ask, fearfully, brokenly. “ Perché non si ferma ? ”
