Dear mankind,

    I write this letter as a personal note and a call for attention. I ask you to honor and never forget the importance of my hero: the technology that informs, that entertains, that saves; the technology that united the world. The internet.

    I am sure that not everybody sees my hero as more than just some simple fun supply. The internet is revolutionary. It was created in the '60s, popularized in the '90s and, since then, has changed the world – and made it only better.

It is the biggest learning platform. With it, we can learn even a new language. Important information, that before would take a long time to be told to the people, today is spread in a blink of an eye. Because of it, relatives and friends that are distant can talk and end the yearning.

    Besides that, the internet has also turned into the most relevant place for protest around the globe. They occur in social media and sites dedicated to protesting. A good example of an activist on the web is Malala Yousafzai, a young Pakistani who, with her blog, shares publicly her fight to maintain the right of women to be educated. Because of her efforts, Malala won the Nobel Peace Prize at 17.

    My hero saves lives. Virtually, fortunes were raised for noble causes. Through NGOs and raising campaigns, it's easy to help someone on the other side of the world. The internet also had a great impact on medicine: currently, even surgeries are done at a distance. This technology allows people to have access to specialists and the best health centers in the world, without needing to travel.

    The web is increasingly present in the life of all of us. Today, around 50% of the whole population has access to it. The internet can assist all ages – it's true that it's more enjoyed by the young, however, it can bring many benefits to the older ones, not only because of its practicality but also because it gives an opportunity to think more and to reintegrate the old to social convivence.

    Finishing, here I leave a tip: the internet is just like every other thing in life. It should be utilized in the right and most responsible way so it doesn't end up as the villain. I reaffirm: don't forget the internet!

    Escrevo esta carta como um lembrete pessoal e uma chamada de atenção. Peço que reconheçam e nunca esqueçam da importância do meu herói: a tecnologia que informa, que entretém, que salva; a tecnologia que uniu o mundo. A internet.

    Tenho certeza de que nem todos entendem que o meu herói é bem mais do que uma simples diversão. A internet é algo revolucionário. Foi criada nos anos 60, se popularizou nos anos 90, e desde então, mudou o mundo – e mudou-o para melhor.

    Ela é a maior plataforma de aprendizagem. Com ela podemos aprender, até mesmo, um novo idioma. Informações importantes, que antes levariam um longo período de tempo para serem contadas às pessoas, hoje são espalhadas em um piscar de olhos. Por causa dela, familiares e amigos que estão distantes podem conversar e matar as saudades.

    Além de tudo isso, a internet se tornou a principal plataforma de protestos mundial. Eles ocorrem em redes sociais e até mesmo em sites dedicados para isso. Um grande exemplo de ativista na rede é Malala Yousafzai, uma jovem paquistanesa que, através de seu blogue, divulga publicamente sua luta em manter o direito das mulheres à educação. Pelos seus esforços, Malala ganhou o Prêmio Nobel da Paz aos 17 anos.

    Meu herói salva vidas. Virtualmente, já foram arrecadadas fortunas para causas nobres. Através de ONGs e campanhas de arrecadação é fácil ajudar alguém que está no outro lado do mundo. A internet também teve um grande impacto na medicina: atualmente, até mesmo cirurgias são feitas a distância. Essa tecnologia permite que as pessoas tenham acesso a especialistas mundiais e aos melhores centros de saúde, sem ter que viajar.

    A rede está cada vez mais presente na vida de todos nós. Hoje em dia, cerca de 50% da população mundial tem acesso à ela. A internet pode auxiliar todas as idades – é verdade que é mais desfrutada por jovens, entretanto, ela pode trazer muitos benefícios aos mais velhos, não só por causa da sua praticidade, mas porque traz uma oportunidade de se usar o raciocínio e reintroduzir os idosos ao convívio social.

    Finalizando, aqui deixo um conselho: a internet é como qualquer outra coisa na vida – deve ser usada de maneira correta e responsável para que assim não acabe tornando-se o vilão da história. Reafirmo: não se esqueça da internet!
