Discussion Questions for after Season 6
Callum has said “Destiny is a book you write yourself,” but he also trusted in the Chosen Two prophecy even when Rayla didn’t. How much do you think Callum believes in destiny, versus free will?
Compare Claudia’s description of the leaflynx kitten as a collection of spell ingredients with Viren stealing Lissa’s tears for the spell to heal Soren. If dark magic treats people and animals the same, what concerns does this raise about dark mages' views on life and power?
This season has several fire themes. What are some moments that use fire/light, and how do these moments relate to each other?
How does the darkness that gives the Celestial elves their all-seeing clarity compare and contrast thematically with the darkness that corrupts Runaan’s soul? Are there other darkness themes you can think of from this season?
How many of Viren’s actions were free of Aaravos’s control this season, if any?
How do you think Soren handled his father’s return to Katolis, when everything was said and done?
This season, Captain Skall’s diary helped Rayla understand her own choices about duty and love. What other effects and choices can you see resulting from her deeper understanding of these complex topics?

What do you think of the Cosmic Order Council's “mercy” for Leola?
Compare the willing deaths of Rayla's parents with the council-demanded death of Aaravos' daughter. How much does control and choice impact each situation?

Discussion Questions for after Season 5
Sometimes when we get badly hurt, the wound becomes a scar. But a scar is also a sign that the rest of you lived! How does the idea that a scar can be a sign of both pain and survival fit with other themes in this show? What do you think this means?
Throughout Season 4, Rayla and Callum struggled to trust each other again, and they often argued. How does Rayla’s choice to trust Callum with the sad truth about the cursed coins change their relationship?
Throughout Season 5, more details of the tragic downfall of the great Sunfire city of Lux Aurea are revealed, both by Queen Janai and by the trip to the Great Bookery. Compare and contrast Janai’s feelings about leading her people with Karim and Miyana’s choice to betray her. How do you think everyone can experience the same tragedy and yet feel so strongly about opposite goals?
Claudia has always been a capable dark mage, and her father’s favorite. This season, she pushed herself to the limit trying to keep everyone she loved safe while also achieving her goal of permanently restoring Viren’s life. Then, at the very end of their journey, Viren chose not to save himself, while Claudia lost a leg trying to retrieve Aaravos’ Pearl. How do you think she is going to handle so much failure under so much pressure?

Viren didn’t understand who Sir Sparklepuff was to him, or what Aaravos needed him for, until the 30th day. Do you think Aaravos treated Viren like an ally? Would you trust someone who didn’t tell you the whole plan and expected you to follow it anyway?
