Assignment 2
ID: 124427
Date: May 31, 2020
Number of words: 1271
Introduction:
In this course, we learned about a lot of things related to media and issues in mass communication. In the starting of this course I thought will learn just about the issues in media, but we learned many things in this important course. Our study was between Tumblr and Moodle materials. The model materials talked about critical thinking, how to understand the media, what we are able to know what is behind news and information in the media, we got to know the media misleading, how we fight it, how we know predisposition in the content of the media, what are the roles that the media play in education, health, lifestyle and their ability to alter values and help the society. In this assignment, I will talk about some issues related to the media, such as disinformation, hate speech, racism, etc. On the other hand, I will talk about the role of the media in educating people and improving their awareness. In addition to the challenges faced by the media, and how we can analyze the words and images of the media in a constructively and critically.
Submitted material:
We have many different issues in this course such as:
1) Disinformation.
2) Use of cognitive strategies in media.
3) Communication used in Cold War, World War I, World War II, The American coalition invasion of Iraq.
4) How media outside Oman present race, gender (Male, Female, third gender) and class?
5) selfie and narcissism – fame online.
6) Hate speech.
7) The role of media in health education.
8) COMICS IN THE TIME OF COVID-19
9) Comics as an information medium
10) perspective about media ethic challenges.
Also:
 Understanding the media.
 Critical Thinking
 Media Histories - Media Power
 Discussing two hypotheses
Analysis:
1- Disinformation + Hate speech + Communication used in wars:
The strategies of communication contrast over time, as communication in the First World War depended on animals by sending them to the specified area while carrying a message in its neck in expansion to the flags of the signal and the telegraph, while in the Second World War new types of communication showed up, such as daily papers, radio, advertising and telephones, while In the invasion of Iraq, satellites showed up. The reason for this invading was that the United States of America because it was misleading the real information and giving the world wrong information with wrong prove or carrying part of the truth.
The disinformation leads to the emergence of what is known as hate speech. Because of the lack of knowledge of the cause of the appearance of the Corona virus and the accusations of the United States against China, and the failure to deliver for people clear information around the formation of the virus, people have become offensive to the Chinese people on social media and different media outlets by making fun of them. In expansion to the use of verbal abuse against the Chinese. And the emergence of satirical outlines directed at the Chinese herb, as this can be a media challenge. In addition, Donald Trump has used verbal abuse greatly against China, and he is an influential figure, which has helped to extend hate speech today.
2- cognitive strategies:
Media use different techniques and ways to have people attention to its message or objective, understanding little information in today’s world means understanding the verbal and non-verbal communications that are taking place in media. Advertising makes us buy products even if we don’t need it without realize that we affected, they use different strategies to convince customers to buy their product or service.
3- How media present race, gender and + class Selfie and narcissism:
Also, the media present Race, Gender (men, women,3rd), class by replicate ethnic and racial stereotypes, which cause destructive impacts. It can persuade us to accept anything, changing the ways of how we think. An example of racial stereotypes in media: most Western media portray Muslims as terrorists, radicals, violent. And always depicted the wealthy class positively, focus on their way of life, they have the control, and they can get anything they need, wearing brands, claim expensive cars, and the poor are the opposite. And Narcissism affects the posting behavior of selfies; it appears to pull in people's attention and admiration by using it because they think they are physically attractive. In addition to their online reputation, celebrities moreover distribute their own pictures, delineating unrealistic magnificence, perfect body and dress; these celebrities can affect millions of people around the world through a single release. These enable people to compare themselves with celebrities and the link between them in way of individuals carefully capturing selfies and may wear brands they do not own only to shoot and how celebrities represent that their lives are perfect but in fact it is not.
4-Health education + Cartoon or comics:
The media plays a critical part in teaching people and informing them of the events and changes that are happening in the world. current crisis in Corona, the media play a huge part in giving people with accurate information about health. Media moreover plays a major part in promoting awareness, teaching people, and giving them with enough advice to mitigate this epidemic by distributing videos, comics, pictures, interviews with specialist’s people such as doctors and experts. Also the Visual designs such as outline or comics are used for different purposes, counting the delivery of information easily and essentially, which makes a difference the general open indeed children to get it the message or information and keep in mind it because this strategy of art remains stuck in the mind, and this is what we saw during the corona crisis where many artists misused their art in raising awareness which passing on effect on people easily and perfectly.
5-The citizens have the right to know everything through media:
In the midst of the development of the media, its transparency, and its ease of use, a lot of information has become available to everyone, as the citizen can obtain a lot of information with just one click without effort but In the most countries citizens always asking the government to be clearer in a few types of information, and this their right to have enough idea and avoid believing rumors. On the other hand, a few information is better to cover up them to avoid misunderstanding if the citizens do not have enough knowledge and to can control more.
6- Media ethics challenges:
the challenges faced by the media are with regard to news, is a few news hidden or should the news be published of any kind and without covering up some of the information, where transparency has become a necessity through the spread of social media and dissemination of facts, there's no room to hide the news where the truths are published in more than one platform. There are moreover ethical challenges faced by the media, including such as Lack of transparency and bias towards a particular party, The diversity of presentation and lack of content to communicate information faster and Spreading rumors.
Conclusion:
This assignment made me be able to analytically look at and talk about contemporary media issues, I ended up more mindful of the values, beliefs, and biases (positive and negative) that the information contains. As we media students, we must be taken care not to accept everything that's published. We must make sure about information published which we get from the media, by standing up to an emotional response and using their analytical abilities to make a supposition and ask some questions about anything happened.

Topic: perspective about media ethic challenges.
the media changes agreeing to the changing circumstances of the world. Media nowadays isn't the same media of fifty years back since of the development of modern media advances and the section of modern media. The media changed, went with by the development of the citizen writer, who got to be the greatest challenge to the morals of media through his capacity to communicate on all media stages.
The media gotten to be more restrict because in some cases the truth will not be in the intrigued of the public. They must be hide a few of these truth in arrange not to panic the audience and in the same time to provide a chance to the specialists in health and government people to unravel the issue they confronted.
from the other side, during the spread of corona-virus, standard media ended up more flexible, straightforward, credibility and precise to avoid the spread of wrong data and decrease the spread of the infection. most of stories which happened to people since of coronavirus are appeared to the public. Even in case this happened to teach the public but at the end it is considered a breach of privacy for example a few recordings on YouTube that a few news channels published wrong data around the virus because they need to urge more viewers on YouTube and others stages. In such sensitive situation, modern channels must be exceptionally fair and denial rumors or any misinformation.
UNDRSTANDING:
I think morals is a critical propensity most of media people should have and when they work for others, they must be ethical. Also, everyone should know and realize the importance of ethics to know their limits when they need to share anything particularly in the social media.

Topic: Discussing two hypotheses
Hypothesis 1: The citizen is the most important pillar in building and developing countries, as it is considered the main engine for all the activities of the country through the works it offers in the service of the country and that obtaining information freely completely, regularly and continuously is in the interest of both sides through many things, including:
1_ Enriching citizens with information is an indication of the development and progress of countries.
2_ Reducing rumors about a specific topic or crisis.
3_ Knowing the opinions of citizens and their reactions to some situation.
4_ In case the media is clear around the heading of economic and speculation things, citizens will contribute to finding solutions to create the economy additionally, this will offer assistance them know the destiny of their future.
Hypothesis 2: in light of the expanding open request from the media to show everything, governments seek to cover up a few data, for different reasons which will be in the interest of the people, the country, or the government and It is way better for citizens not to know around everything because this can be fitting for their interest. Keeping things covered up from citizens is critical for a few reasons:
1_ Maintaining the country's stability.
2_ Preserving the country's reputation and will
3_ Apply the principle of privacy in some news.
4_ Secure citizens from the transformations that will happen in case they find mystery data.
The best solution to balance between these hypotheses:
1_ Classifying information or news into several sections according to importance and confidentiality. Through this process, everyone can know the amount of information available and not available to him.
2_ Sometimes total knowledge of things creates a kind of awareness among the people and prevents any external influence on them that might harm the country.

Analysis the four illustration:
Photo number one expresses how the virus is able to spread all over the world without exception, as we know the virus started in China, but today it covers most of the world and this image also shows how fast the virus is and its transmission from one place to another.
Picture number two shows how medical and military cadres in a single row block the virus from all sides to limit its spread, as the doctor limits its spread by treating and isolating the injured, while military cadres limit its spread by making people in their homes and limiting their unnecessary exit.
Picture number three shows how staying at home is like a safety button for everyone and getting out from it makes disease bomb explode and spread among people quite easily and as we know that the virus does not have the ability to reach people except through contact with others.
Picture number four represents rumors spread about the disease and the number of injured and possible deaths that are being reported incorrectly in social media and from unreliable sources which help to amplify this crisis and spread fear in the hearts of people.
Why I selected these four?
I chose pictures based on the variety of methods used and the importance of the things in them and the messages included through the method of drawing and coloring and Its easy to understand and access to the idea which be published.
Understanding:
Collage is a visual graphic art that relies on cutting and pasting many materials together, or on top of each other, and gives a beautiful artistic form and It is considered a means of communicating information and advice as it is considered a very effective way through which it can influence people, whether with passion or comedy.
