King Vultures exist in WoR, but they were/are a staple food source for dragons and guardians. Not only were they bred to be much bigger and meatier, but there were several times they almost got hunted to extinction. Blight's only seen dead ones that have been dissected and carved up.

Also, drawing FC surprised is officially super fun. Fluffball.

I don't mean to frighten you or sound like this is a threat, but what if something happened to your dad while you were gone? Or any of the other scavengers, like Claw? Did the thought cross your mind that this could be the last time you see each other?

Just a thought.

Ah, having to retcon things, how I can't seem to get away from you

So, I changed some Wings of Rain stuff again, this time how sluggie/scav colonies work. Everything is fine, except for the fact i changed Artificer's backstory.

Which changes Blight's story.

Which means Shared Sparks has issues now.

Good news is that I'm just going to finish out Shared Sparks with the old backstory since it was never canon anyway.

Bad news is why does this keep happening to me. (I wiped an entire fic from ao3 after the first major change)

Hopefully I can make a post tonight about the new way colonies work, though!

"Excuse me, are you trying to make me upset?" Firecracker scoffed, face wrinkling. They took in a deep sigh, glancing at its paws. "For all I know my birth parent abandoned me. Scavengers are my family. I don't need any help."

OP : I think Firecracker deserves to be mad sometimes, and they would be angry at this.

Seen the lantern mice yet? They only live in the dark regions, so you’ve probably found them in the citadel.

They make good food, but I always feel bad, hunting them.

I would suggest eating fruit, and slime mold instead, but…I know some of your kind are meat eaters by their nature. Are you, by chance?

What’s the greatest beast you’ve defeated?

"Well, it was a team effort. Some of the elites helped bring it down, but I think it was a great effort from me with all my explosives! It was a king vulture." Firecracker proudly says, recalling the event with a pause in-between their words. "I left my tusk trophy at home because I don't want to loose it though."

"No. They take time to make, and even if I'm willing to give you one, you must be responsible and have value to trade." Firecracker said passively, the bot bobbing up and down, floating and falling a bit from its damage.

Part One || Previous || TW : None!

Luckily, by the time the gate was finished, there was still plenty of time to make it to a shelter and find other scavengers. It could buy supplies, with nomads or traders, which would be easy given knowledge. A few shortcuts along the way.

They raced into the citadel and slithered through passages whose light dimmed further. It could see paw steps ahead as vision adapted to the dark place.

"Psst!" A husky soft voice called.

"Wh-" Firecracker blinked rapidly, narrowing its eyes to see who said that. They look around, seeing a faint, familiar dimming light coming from a tunnel.

"Firecracker!" A scavenger grinned, beckoning them closer. They crawled down into the tunnel with the scruffy scavenger, nearly a perfect shade of black. The creature was only faintly illuminated by lanterns on its sash.

The scavenger started pointing and motioning their arms. It was a small bit alarming, clearly a reason to send out this scout to find Firecracker. "Word gets around fast, we heard you'd be coming through so we figured I'd meet up and find you a place to stay during the-"

"I was just passing through to get maybe a lantern, I really don't need somewhere to stay. There's plenty of shelters." Firecracker cut the scavenger off, face twisting into a nervous smile which slowly faded from it's face. They really just needed to follow up the path like it planned, not waste time.

"Here, just, give me a lantern and spear. I can't spare time." Firecracker said- which was half a lie. The slugcat handed the scavenger a cherrybomb, a sprig of batnip, and a rock from their own sash. These items matched the worth about as fine as Firecracker could.

"...Of course," The scavenger hesitantly handed the slugcat the asked items, grabbing the traded ones. Firecracker stabbed the lantern with the new spear, skewering the items into a torch, with a sharp pointy end.

"Thank you." Firecracker slipped out of the small tunnel dipping their head to the scavenger. It looked back hesitantly towards the small dark scavenger. They let out a slow breath, smiling back to the ally. "Don't worry. I'll be careful."

The slugcat swiftly through the citadel, but cycles passed easily in such a .. well, relatively calm way. Out of the corner of their eyes, it swears they see crawling creatures, but everything remains eerily silent.

But it was getting louder. Clicks, snaps, screeches.

Firecracker could only try its best to sleep now, with the looming threat of unknown creatures above the slugcat's head.

I can only imagine what it was like, for those few scavengers who lived through its eventual collapse…
