I'm dying to know how the FUCK Adira and Hector react to Sundrop Eugene in your au. Especially considering Adira probably figured out that Eugene was the DK's lost prince during the Forest of No Return 🤣

I agree with your argument for adira, but I'm unsure if anything would really change with regards to hector since I don't think he figured out Eugene was the prince (at least, I didn't notice anything that suggested he knew) and I find it doubtful Adira would have told hector. I also feel hector would have at least made a snide comment about it if he knew.

Adira however.

She seems fairly good at hiding her emotions and stuff like that. We don't really see her shaken or truly caught off guard. So, while it would probably surprise her at least a little, she probably wouldn't show it too much.

However, she might take it as a sign that she's right. That the sundrop is the solution.

reaffirming her already strong convictions might be a good way to put it.

If you disagree with me on any of this I'm happy to hear your thoughts as well. We can only learn from hearing alternative perspectives after all.

In all seriousness,

Nothing about the backstory is changed at all, he's still the lost prince (i made an entire mini essay on why I believed it made more sense for Eugene to be the Sundrop in the post before this one. But tldr: he didn't become the sundrop until the end of the movie in this AU) but there are slight changes to the reunion.

Eugene still gets separated for the reunion first, but Rapunzel and the gang don't get trapped outside (after all, Rapunzel isn't the one who needs to grab the moonstone in this AU so 'your mother died because of the moonstone' is not going to be as effective as an argument here XD)

However, king Edmund is even more resistant to Eugene grabbing it than he was to Rapunzel, after all, Eugene's mother died because of the moonstone, king Edmund isn't going to want to lose his son the same way. He is going to take a whole lot more convincing than he did in canon.

Also Edmund still recognises Eugene pretty quickly, since it was the eyes that gave it away in canon. And even with blonde hair he looks exactly like the wanted posters (well, except for the nose obviously)

Also fun fact, since the dark kingdom is full of the black rocks his hair would be full blond the entire time he was there.

Time to talk about the Sundrop Eugene AU.

First things first, the how:

For The most part it starts out as the original did.

Rapz gets overwhelmed. Sneaks out with Cass the night before her coronation.

this time Eugene notices them though a window and decides to follow after them, both to make sure they're ok and to apologise for putting rapz on the spot earlier.

He reaches the black rocks right around the time that Rapz touches the rocks.

Seeing as rapz no longer has the sundrop, they don't react, to cass' relief.

Eugene sees this as a chance to wind up Cass and touches the rocks himself while commenting 'see, it's perfectly safe'

Cue it no longer being perfectly safe. (+1 points to Cass) And they all book it away from the now angry rocks.

Once they're a safe distance away they stop to catch their breath, and only then does Eugene notice his hair is different in his reflection in Cass' shattered sword.

Now, moving onto how different the hair is, in this AU his hair has 3 different stages of blond (as opposed to the 2 Rapunzel has):

Stage 1: 2 streaks

(excuse the drawings, I've only been practicing art for 4 days)

Stage 1 is what his hair looks like day to day.

The blond bits comprise of a thick streak going the length of his head to his right, and a smaller strand at the bottom, perpetually in his view.

He has tried multiple times but he the smaller strand refuses to mix into the rest of the blond, always resting in his sight.

Stage 2: full blond

When he's near the black rocks (within about 10-15 feet)

His hair dramatically fades from brown to blond as he approaches the rocks. Because aesthetic.

Stage 3: glow

Stage 3 is the glow.

The rules for his hair glowing are the exact same as for Rapunzel's glowing in the show.

Over all he is not happy with the situation, but if there's one thing Eugene does know, it's how to put on a confidant front, so only those who are especially close to him, close enough for him to drop that front, know how much it actually bothers him.

So, I was rewatching tangled again. I have genuinely lost track of how many times I've rewatched that movie.

And I noticed something which I believe implies the possibility of an au. (Spoiler alert if you haven't seen the movie but want to, I guess. We will be talking about the ending)

As we know from the very start of the movie, it is possible for the powers of the sundrop to be transferred, after all, if they couldn't, Rapunzel wouldn't have been born with magical glowing hair.

But the thing about the sundrop's power is, only it's current holder glows when the magic is activated. And this is displayed multiple times.

The flower glows when gothel makes herself young with the flower, not gothel herself.

The flower and flower tea glow when the queen is cured (the tea also glows as the power is transferring from the flower itself to the tea)

Rapunzel's hair glows when gothel makes herself young again.

And lastly it is the hair that glows when she heals Eugene's hand.

But now let's quickly skip to the end of the movie

What happens when Eugene is stabbed?

What glows when he's revived?

Eugene's cheek is the first part to glow, but it's important to note, it doesn't start glowing until after it has been absorbed into his cheek,

It's also important to take note of the flower imagery used here before the glowing moves. Where does it move to you ask?

It moves to Eugene's injury

And as his injury is healed, the light sleeping out forms the shape of the original Sundrop flower

And we see from multiple angles that the light isn't just appearing about the injury, but outright leaking out of it.

But, dear reader

The movie showed us time and time again that the only person or objects that glows when the power is active is the person or object that currently contains the power

So to me, this implies that, with Eugene's revival, the sundrop power rests within him, rather than Rapunzel.

As such, to me it seems more logical for Eugene to be the sundrop in the show, not Rapunzel. Thus I have created a sundrop Eugene AU.

I am open to questions and shall be sharing thoughts that come to mind, and will occasionally be posting art.

However all that will have to wait until another post as I have hit the image limit for this one.

Hey, I just found this and I was wondering, are you still interested in an AU like this?

Because I've been having thoughts about one since the 6th of this month (so 11 days by this point) and, while I haven't gotten everything fleshed out, I do have enough to be able to share (and I was planning to post it later today.)

Did anyone make an AU of the series but Eugene still has what's left of the sundrop within him ? So the rocks would react to him instead of Raps I guess?
