Sad that Portugal's song was so low this year, I somehow relate so much to the song. I am of Italian descent on both sides and do live in Italy, but I am also a second generation born in Cape Town and my family left when i was three or so. I feel Italian and I am Italian by an ethnic and cultural standpoint, and yet I have so much nostalgia and such an empty spot from being taken away from what should've felt like home. It's this feeling of connecting with the geography, the air, the places and landscape but being unable to fully relate or share your language (don't have a south African accent like my dad and his brothers do), culture, not being able to fully relate to the culture and people no matter how much you try. My father has those parts, he was born and grew there, and yet no matter how much people emphasize my being born there, I cannot feel it mine. Literally tried to cook something to feel some sort of connection and miserably failed and just cried in the mess. I guess that was when I came to terms with it. I still want my ashes to go there though when I die. Back home

(also kinda interesting how many Portuguese people from Madeira I know from Cape Town, interesting considering Napa's background)
