My Thoughts on the 2020 Resident Evil 3 Remake
Let me start off by saying I have never played the original RE 3, so any comparisons to it, I am not authorized to make. I have however, played most of the other installments, and I am a big fan of the series =)
As far as character design, I thought the developers did a great job. The redesigned Jill is adorable, and Carlos’ new hair is sick af. I also did not feel that the playful banter between them detracted much from the threatening and tense atmosphere of the game. Compared to RE’s older games, it was nice to have characters showing off a bit more personality. I think the beginning sequence, with Jill’s nightmare reflecting her fears of the virus, helped achieve this effect as well.
I do, however, wanna talk about Nemesis real quick. I think at the end of the sudden introduction, specifically the part where the flames burn off his wrappings is totally bad ass. But after Nemesis’ first mutation where he emerges from his fall into the river, I considered him significantly less intimidating than his previous humanoid form. This is mainly due to the new mutation, of which I was always hyper-aware of the fact that he could no longer nonchalantly follow you around the map through normal doorways (because he was so big) unlike as he had done before.
I found this majorly disappointing, as I was expecting something similar to the Resident Evil 2 remake, wherein Mr. X followed the player throughout an enclosed area. I found that the effect of that dynamic brought a more tense atmosphere than of RE 3; with knowing that the tyrant in RE: 2 would be relentless in its chase and you would always have to take precautions to avoid or hide from it within the police station. But in Resident Evil 3, this open chase doesn’t last as long and only occurs when you’re almost ready to move on from the first area in downtown Raccoon City.
I understand that RE 3 is a shorter game, but once again, after the mutation I no longer felt stalked/leery of Nemesis, and felt that the ambiance of the game suffered greatly from it. I thought the game hand-held a bit too much as well. The majority of the player’s interactions with the monster were with the intent of escaping him, in which, as the player, you were only given one direct and oversimplified route to run through.
Another note, I was a bit confused by the Magnum. Typically, it has always been the most powerful gun in the games. And I may be mistaken, but in the boss fights with Nemesis, the grenade launcher seemed to cause more damage to him than the actual magnum. I can’t tell if its just because the grenades stagger him or they’re actually stronger. Or maybe the magnum was meant primarily for the Paleheads. I’m not sure.
To me, the ending was satisfying, especially with its “I’m-gonna-make-Umbrella-pay-fuck-em-up” tone.
I am interested to see if they’re gonna remake any other older installments in the future. I’m hoping they won’t touch the ones that don’t need it though, such as RE: 4, which is perfect in of itself. A Code: Veronica remake would be cool, or any other Gamecube/PS2/3-only game.
Feel free to share your own thoughts about the game in the comments :-)

Simps, Onlyfans, iDubbz: My Take on the Situation & How it Reflects a Deeper Meaning in Society.
Tumblr media
For years I have subscribed to iDubbz’s channel. And I know I may be criticized for this, but I admit that upon his latest video concerning his girlfriend’s Onlyfans account, I, like many others, promptly unsubscribed.
I did this for a few reasons. One, I didn’t like how he handled the situation. In fact, I found it unnecessary and purposely inciting the fact that they chose to make this news public in the first place. Like, of course people are going to have a response to this announcement, and yet, in his video, he seems personally baffled by it, particularly to the negative reactions, as if he were naively under the impression that his unpopular stance wouldn’t be criticized.
Many of his arguments supporting his girlfriend were flawed. For example, him implying that his girlfriend revealing her genitals is equivalent to his video footage of him without a shirt. Or his insistence that employers wouldn’t bat an eye over people with those types of accounts. Because apparently, background checks don’t exist and companies never look into who they’re hiring. Or his argument that it’s immoral to judge someone for “what they did previously and not hiring them even if they’re qualified for the job.” Like, of course, we shouldn’t judge child rapists for being rapists, let’s give them that elementary school teaching position, they’re still qualified despite what they did! While we’re at it, let’s give the guy with a background of illegal drug dealing a job at the pharmacy! He has the credentials!
See the problem?
Let me be clear, I’m not attempting to justify whether or not his girlfriend having an Onlyfans account is right or wrong. I am only interested in exploring his arguments, the internet’s reactions to them, and the following implications of the conflict.
I think the drama has incited so many opinions, particularly from the opposition, because I believe the iDubbz’s decision is extrapolated into an internalized moral dilemma.
Upon hearing it, people are quick to consider, “How would I feel if my significant other had a porn/lewd account of themselves?” And many, naturally, feel uncomfortable or betrayed by the thought. They think, “there are so many ways to make money, why would my SO resort to that if they didn’t have to?” Or, “Why can’t our sexual activities remain private between us?”
This is a reasonable reaction.
However, differences in opinion arise within the Sexual Revolution noticed between now and the past centuries concerning religion, porn, sex work, censorship, promiscuity, sexuality, etc. People are very confused, including myself, on where the line is drawn between free sexual expression and blatant indecency. And it keeps getting blurrier.
In America, we have a strange moral dichotomy. We suppress information in our schools related to the functions of sex. Yet, our country has a high foot traffic on Pornhub, often, sadly, to fill some of the information gaps education left with misleading representations of sex. We restrict our teenagers from experiencing romantic relationships, yet complain when our children have dogs instead of children. We desire to normalize sex workers, but see abused and dehumanized porn actresses on big name sites. Etc.
So when we see a relationship that is said to be destroyed because of pornographic account, we don’t just see iDubbz and his girlfriend’s personal decisions,
We see ourselves.
