Links for (abandoned) WOF project
Unnamed project for Wings of Fire where a lot of things change, mainly that the worldbuilding is just better. Feel free to ask questions about anything and everything!
This AU has a LOT of worldbuilding changes - as well as a few plot ones. Most significantly to the world, the RainWings are actually competent - though they still like sun and have plenty of rest time. Most significantly to the plot, Vulture joins the Talons of Peace and Onyx is revealed much earlier, and the Talons of Peace choose her as their candidate instead of Blister.

Wings of Fire SeaWing Headcanons!
omg guys im so close to finishing these yippy!!!!
guys animus magic works different you guys can have albatross' death scene as a treat
Eagle watched as the strange structure grew larger and larger, like cancerous tendrils reaching for the endless sky. He was a guard for the Princess Sunset, who was visiting the Island Palace to oversee negotiations regarding new Sea Kingdom settlements on Sky Kingdom territory. However, Queen Lagoon seemed to be taking this as an opportunity to show off her animus dragon by regrowing a new island palace in place of the old one, which had previously gotten wrecked by a hurricane. The spiral twisted unnaturally, glowing and pulsing with animus magic. He took a look at the dragon performing the spell-- Albatross was his name, if Eagle remembered correctly. The magic continued pulsing from the grey animus' body, in slow, steady movements.
The music began rising, as the structure's spires got to an altitude around the middle of the room. Two royals, Eagle recognized as the animus dragon's daughter and her husband, looked frantic as they searched for someone, probably the animus dragonet, who was supposed to be watching the ceremony with the other royals. They sent their other dragonet outside to look for the animus.
When he turned to look back at the structure, he saw that its glow was pulsing strangely and irregularly. The geriatric animus began to shake, then toppled over. All the glow left his body, and entered all into the palace's structure. Eagle watched as the spiral grew and grew, in erratic, random directions. Then, the stone burst out, like a pile of spears exploding. The tendrils were growing so fast, there could be no escape. Queen Lagoon was the first to die, becoming trapped in the huge stone thorns and stabbed to death. Other dragons tried running away, but it was no use. The magic was too fast for anyone to outrun. Eagle watched in horror as he saw about a dozen dragons, including his princess, meet the same fate as the queen.
Eagle accepted his fate as a tendril of stone came hurtling toward him.
anyway, back to other things! i'll explain animus magic more in-depth in another post, so yeah :))
the seawings are the largest tribe! i just wanted them to have an advantage on land, so one seawing could probably take on 2-3 skywings without fire (with fire is ofc a different story)
seawing snouts are a bit longer, like spinosauruses!! i just thought it would help them hunt a lil better.
the current dynasty actually has a lot of pink accents in them!! they claim descent from a dragon named dolphin who survived the Animus Incident, but nobody knows if they're really real!!
the seawings are a lot like imperial china government-wise, and have a centralized, autocratic government with the empress at the top.
seawing court drama goes CRAZYYYY. like queen coral's thirty two sons? you BET they're gonna poison each others kids (or just. each other) like its a competition. like orca doesn't even have to try to kill off their girlfriends or anything they just do it themselves.
orca DEFINITELY killed whirlpool after she became queen. is that even a question
when orca killed coral (which is later in this au), gill took anemone's egg and whisked her away,, somewhere.
orca and anemone are NOT animi anymore! sorry guys i just dont want an animus queen + itd lowk fuck up my plans for book 2
despite its super centralized government, there have been some historically uncontrollable populations of seawings that the current dynasty has just opted to. turn into a tributary state and stop caring.
moray is totally hiding in one of those tributaries.

Wings of Fire IceWing Headcanons!
All of Pyrrhia has been rotated very slightly so that the IceWings are the northernmost, not equal in latitude to the SkyWings. Sorry, that just bothered me.
can. can the icewings have fur (guess what its MY au so yes they will)
icewings are known for their seafaring and navigational skills! maritime hunting is a pretty big thing in north icewing culture and there's an established tradition of going out to sea and just boating for days to find whales and other aquatic megafauna.
speaking of megafauna, they aren't extinct in this au!! (yippy) and THATS why humans are so small compared to everything else.
for the more inland icewings, mammoth and woolly rhino hunting is also common (though not as culturally important as whaling expeditions)
scavengers are pretty rare in the north with the exception of the great ice cliff-- the human and dragon governments signed a long-forgotten treaty a few thousand years ago confining all human settlements to a huge defensive strip of land around the ice cliff.
most of the time, dragons die from the local humans before any icicles pierce their hearts. (they just got some new guns from the night peninsula humans and they are NOT putting it to waste.)
the ice kingdom can actually get pretty warm in the summers, with the eastern pine forests becoming a prime vacation destination for any noble who wants a little getaway from the ice.
the alliance with the rainwings has given the icewings some sweet new imports recently, including mangoes, papaya, and paralyzing venom darts!
(already mentioned in the rainwings post) a large rainwing diaspora lives in the ice kingdom, in what's known as "pearl neighborhoods"! they're mostly refugees from the seventh rainforest kingdom, which was destroyed in the last mudwing-rainwing war. they're allowed free heating and housing, as long as they pay with a few eggs for the army...

Wings of Fire Skywing Headcanons PART 2
yeah thats right i decided there would be MORE. skywings are so fun you guys i love playing w them (make sure to read part 1 because this is mostly stuff on skywing tribal divisions)
in darkstalker's era, skywings were actually divided by time!
ancient skywing maps in darkstalker's era typically showed the sky kingdom as a sundial, not because they were dumb and couldn't draw a map properly (like some of you seem to think about T and O maps), but were actually a sort of symbolism thing! the sun comes from the east, so the "daytime" skywings (now known as the white tribe) were obviously in the east. then, the opposite side is the west, which has the nighttime skywings (black tribe). then in the corners, are obviously dawn and dusk!
this sorta fell apart after like a hundred years because skywings are nomadic and after a while the tribes just went in completely different places that do NOT look sundial-shaped in any way.
the red and gold tribes actually used to be the same - part of the "twilight" skywings during darkstalker's era. however, their vastly different lifestyles (mountains vs plains) sort of split them apart, and they just sorta became new tribes
the red and gold skywings still have a pretty closely related language! it's sort of like.. english and german. okay its not THAT related by like thats what 1.5k years of separation does to you yk.
the black tribe sorta got bullied out of existence by most of the other tribes - by the 49th century, you couldn't really find many black tribe skywings outside of the north coast, and weren't relevant to much.

Wings of Fire SkyWing Headcanons
guys i kind of wrote a lot for this one.. there would have been more but its lowk kinda spoilers
just like there's a bunch of colors of the sky, there's a bunch of colors of skywings! they're mostly separated by "tribes", the largest of which are the red tribe, white tribe, gold tribe, and black tribe.
the red tribe is the most populous and is the one who conquered all the skywings!! the current dynasty is particularly nasty to other groups, and colorism against non-red skywings is unfortunately pretty common under their regime. they were originally from the Sunset Valley in the Cloudsclaws mountains, but since conquering everyone you can find red skywings practically everywhere.
the white tribe actually has a lot more colors than just white! they can be gray, white, light blue, basically any color that a daytime sky can be! they live in the northeastern wingtip of the sky kingdom, and have a pretty strong separatist movement!!
the black tribe is probably one of the smallest major tribes, usually being darker blues, purples, and browns. these skywings are a bit rarer, and are sometimes mistaken as nightwing hybrids
the gold tribe is probably one of the tribes with the strongest chance of actually getting independence!! they live on the Western Steppe around the Five Tail, and were the last tribe to be conquered by the reds. most gold tribe skywings are shades of yellow, dusty browns, and grays.
the gold tribe was actually the last tribe to be conquered by the reds, their lands being slowly partitioned by the sandwings and red tribe until all that was left was the city of possibility. possibility became a hotspot for gold tribe nationalism in the 4960s and 70s, until burn personally led a sandwing army to conquer the city in 4984. after the conquest, thousands of gold tribe skywings were deported to a multitude of places, the lucky ones being placed in smaller villages around the five-tail, but the others being sent to the sky kingdom (where they would be used as arena fodder) or simply thrown in the desert to fend for themselves.
in 5003, blaze's icewing army made it all the way down to the Walled Delta and managed to recruit many bitter gold tribe skywings to join her army. the Dragonets of Destiny have discussed their fate more than once when trying to think of how a peace deal with the three queens would go.
the white tribe technically do have a queen, queen cumulus, but she's basically only there for show. blister has tried multiple times to convince cumulus to betray scarlet, but she's a bit of a pussy.
the skywings actually have some fucking culture now!
each tribe has a slightly different sort of thing on religion, but all tribes have a lot of stuff on reincarnation and a lot of oral storytelling and myths!
plays and performance are a super important skywing thing, and skywings in battle are known for the super loud and long war cries, striking fear into their enemies' hearts as their roars bellow across the plains
skywing performances are known for being especially dramatic!! sometimes, the deaths are real!!
by sometimes, i mean it's pretty damn common as a royal execution thing. scarlet's husband was condemned to play the role of a skywing hero who was stabbed in the back. literally.

Wings of Fire Mudwing Headcanons
one of the richest and most populated tribes!!
not a horrible endless swamp anymore!! the mudwings are home to a multitude of biomes, including prarie, meadows, wetlands, and rich floodplains!!
these floodplains have turned the mudwings into one of the best climates for farming!! mudwing corn is exported to basically every corner of pyrrhia and is the source of its vast population and uber-strong army!
the mudwings contain one of the largest empires (second to the sky kingdom) in pyrrhia, and are home to pyrrhia's biggest army!! (the loss of the mudwings was a horrible horrible loss to blister, but moorhen had been planning it for years)
when the mudwings joined burn's side of the war, blister was lowk screwed as shit. her armies were now basically split in half, nightwings in the west and seawings in the east, and there was almost no communication between the two. the mudwings were a super vital point to connect the two armies, and so there was a sudden huge importance to connect the western army to ANY coastline. this is a major plot point in book 4 (ice kingdom + night kingdom) !!
the mudwings HATE rainwings. they've been undergoing a genocidal on-and-off war for literally 75 years (dragons typically live to 50) that finally ended when the dragonets of destiny came along and ended the war of sandwing succession (clay and glory are closer in this au)
mudwings are one of the only tribes that dont have rainwing mercs!! or, not officially. there's smaller military units that have rainwing mercs but usually they'll be executed if they're found out by the higher-ups
mudwing capital is a bit further downriver (north). current position is a bit,,, vulnerable to their worst enemy.

Wings of Fire NightWing Headcanons
the nightwings live in a tropical archipelago in between pantala and pyrrhia!! according to legend, listener brought the tribe to the west because she wanted to follow clearsight to pantala!!
humans inhabit the old night peninsula, and the cities there are one of the oldest in pyrrhia!! (second to the great ice wall's human population, of course)
hivewings are NOT nightwing-beetlewing hybrids. that shit is dumb as hell.
nightwings are pretty closely related to rainwings!! nightwings have venom, but it basically works the same as canon (similar to komodo dragons where they just bite the prey and come back to eat it later after its dead)
nightwings actually have domesticated a kind of paralyzing tropical flower to aid in hunting (so they don't have to go around searching for the animal after its dead)! it used to be simply ingested before sleeping and they would go hunt when they woke up with the paralyzing fluid in their mouth, but in later centuries a kind of mouthguard has been invented to store the flower's juice before biting, so you can hunt at any time!
mouthguards have also been developed to become super important cultural objects! they're typically made of metal and the richer you are, the more decorated yours will be!
MOON STUFF
Moons are now changed A Lot! Essentially, Imperial (biggest moon) influences mental abilities, and Oracle influences future abilities! However, there can be no abilities without Perception (the smallest moon).
Imperial + Perception: Empath (can feel sophont emotions)
Oracle + Perception: Divinator (strong "gut feeling")
Blood Imperial + Perception: Mareseer (can see fears/nightmares of a sophont)
Blood Oracle + Perception: Augur (can only see bad futures)
Imperial + Perception + Eclipsed/Transited Oracle: Telepath (can read current thoughts of a sophont)
Oracle + Perception + Eclipsed/Transited Imperial: Prophet (can have visions)
Imperial + Oracle + Perception: Reader (can read current thoughts + visions)
Supermoon Imperial + Perception + Eclipsed Oracle: Memory-sight (can see memories, extremely rare)
Supermoon Oracle + Perception + Eclipsed Oracle: Clairvoyee (basically Clearsight, extremely rare)
Syzygy (all 3 moons in an APPARENT straight line, does not actually have to be straight from space): Searcher (can search futures + see thoughts, sometimes memories)
Research on the moons was deliberately destroyed after Darkstalker, and being born on a reader's/searcher's night was seen as bad luck! A lot of NightWings still don't trust Starflight (a Searcher, cannot see memories) because of this!

Wings of Fire RainWing headcanons
hi everyone this is like my first time on tumblr so idk how to like do stuff but heres some headcanons from my au lol
rainwings are actually competent and are a fucking MENACE
rainwings no longer defy the laws of physics - they have octopus-like skin that can change texture and color, but can't just turn magically invisible
pyrrhian architecture is DESIGNED to give rainwing assassins the LEAST amount of hiding spots and force them to be as visible as possible - even icewings behind their cliff.
(book 3 plot replacement) a huge problems the rainwings have is actually a byproduct of them being so good - people selling their eggs. rainwing eggs are some of the most lucrative markets on pyrrhia, and despite some queens' objections to the trade, there has been no coordinated effort to stop it.. so far.
the rainforest is actually an alliance of multiple kingdoms - six, to be exact. they all unified into a sort-of kingdom during the latest rainwing-mudwing war 50 years ago, but individual kingdoms are still functionally independent, just all their militaries are controlled by a single dragon.
there actually used to be seven kingdoms before the latest rainwing-mudwing war. it was basically possibility, but with mudwings, seawings, and rainwings, with a rainwing plurality. it was seen by mudwings as a site of corruption from the evil rainwings, and the kingdom never joined the other six in their alliance, so it was destroyed on both sides
many rainwing survivors of the rainwing-mudwing war actually live in what's known as "pearl neighborhoods" in the ice kingdom, since icewings offered to house the seventh kingdom's refugees, as long as they could tax a few eggs every so often...
