“callisto” silken windsprite windhound - source
this striking little guy has what breeders would refer to as a “watermarked with windsprites” coat! the coat is distinguished by the darker borders of the lighter brown patches, and is obviously stunning. what a lovely sighthound!

This bird came back from extinction - now scientists in a glider are teaching it to migrate
Extinct in central Europe for 300 years, 36 northern bald ibis are following an ultralight aircraft on their long-forgotten migration route from Austria to Spain

Fritz was inspired by the 1996 film Fly Away Home in which the main character flies an ultralight plane to show orphaned geese their migratory path. The film was based on the work of “Father Goose” Bill Lishman, a naturalist who taught Canadian geese in the same way in 1988.

Breeding efforts to increase their population over the past two decades have been successful, but without guidance from wild ancestors, the birds – known for their bald red head and long curved beak – no longer had any knowledge of which direction to fly for winter. Early reintroduction attempts were largely unsuccessful – instead of returning to suitable wintering grounds such as Tuscany, Italy, the birds flew in different directions and died.

When they reach the wintering grounds, the birds become fully independent and no longer need their foster parents, although they still recognise them years later and actively approach to say hello (the birds have a ritual greeting in which they spread their hair and bow, making a “chrrupp” noise). The central European population has increased from zero to almost 300 since the start of the project in 2002, and in 2011 the first bird migrated back to Bavaria from Tuscany without human help.
This is amazing and also very sweet. Do click though and read the whole article at the Guardian.

kudos = bookmark; destiny crackfic!
this is officially the silliest thing i've written in my entire life lol. also on ao3
User last_city_69 is not the first and certainly not the last to put the events of the Last City into a written form. Granted, those are not particularly real events, and if they are, they come with a flourish of humour, angst or as one simply puts it: “shipping”.
This particular writer has been working hard at their craft for several years now. With a pseudonym hiding their identity, they’ve explored the many corners of Lord Shaxx’s romantic dalliances, Ikora Rey’s detective work and Cayde-6’s adventures across space. Kudos and comments fill the writer’s inbox every few days, but recently…
A strange commenter has appeared in their inbox. Always with a highly punctuated or divided style of writing, sometimes critical, sometimes overly praising and always very quick to leave a response. They went through the entirety of their Last City saga, left kudos on each chapter and ficlet, bookmarked a few highly specific works, most in the Explicit rating. To each their own.
The writer doesn’t mind, of course.
***
last_city_69 copies and pastes the first chapter of their new work. It’s quite a feat! Ten thousand worth of words on the Young Wolf’s venture into the Cosmodrome wilderness, fighting the Taken forces. There they meet another Guardian, teaming up, their Light shining, ending in a passionate kiss and a tasteful fade to black.
Rating: M.
Tags: power couple, there was only one tent!
The cursor hovers over the button, and the writer lets out a sigh as they press on it, sending their creation for all to see. Well, read.
The mysterious commenter makes themselves known in an instant.

approval = expectations
.tame for my |tastes|. .but accep|table. .we await for |more|. .that last para|graph was very sa|tiating.
last_city_69 smiles a little, replying with a short thankful note. Even so cryptic a message deserves a response. Thankfully, another faithful reader leaves a comment, too, familiar and less intense, soothing the writer’s mind.
***
A new fic today. A smitten, pining Guardian whose eyes are only for that Eliksni guy. Misraaks. The writer has met him plenty of times when the Last City went through the Endless Night. He was polite, respectful, despite the many assholes who wanted him and his people out, and even held a pleasant conversation with the writer when they inquired about the Servitors and offered to water the plants in the Eliksni’s garden.
Rating: M.
Additional tags: mutual pinning, they are idiots!, first kiss.
Press the button, post the fic. Last_city_69 relaxes back in their chair, staring outside the window into the ocean of neon as the night draws over the City. No better time than now to post a new work.
A few seconds later, inbox counts in a new comment.
misraakskel - worthy of attention - more mouth action
.my tastes |are| known to you. .invigo|rating firsts and seconds.
G U A R D I A N M A K E S T H E I R I N T E R E S T K N O W N
The writer sends back another thank you, both amused and anxious over this comment that comes in so instantly and so intensely. They are mighty curious over the identity of such a peculiar commenter, but their profile counts no works, only many, many bookmarks, most of which are marked with a glaring red E.
Another comment drops. Moteater says he really liked it when Misraaks finally noticed the Guardian’s pining.
Last_city_69 smiles again.

When this strange new man appears in the Tower where Last_city_69 works, they cannot help but watch him whenever he is in sight. A very strange man, if only because he looks so out of place and out of time. Always a little disheveled, handsomer for it, and bewildered. His left eye glows incandescently with blues, which would be extraordinary if not for the many inhabitants of the Last City also having glowing eyes.
After some inquiring, the writer learns more of this man’s identity. Lodi, emissary? To whom? Questions hang in the air.
And a question hangs in the writer’s inbox. They cannot help but laugh when a message appears, an innocent enough request, or is it?
.writer. .|do| you accept prompts?.
