topic: the day nahee discovered that she wanted to be a kpop idol.

“mom, do you understand knight have been talked about for like, nine months? literally everyone in south korea has heard about them. they're gonna be so big, i’m so excited!!” the thirteen year old gushed, before looking in the mirror to make sure everything about her look was on point. today was the day she had been waiting for for what seemed like forever, and she had to make sure she left a good impression. today was the day nahee and her choir group got to not only attend knight’s debut showcase, but go backstage and meet the members after the show as well. how the middle schoolers managed to get to do such an exclusive thing was unknown to the kids, as their teacher had just said she had “connections to bc entertainment” and left it at that. her mother would just hum in response, before driving her to the school where the kids would all meet and take the bus to the showcase, trying to ignore her daughter screaming the lyrics to “what is love” and “history” the whole way there.

upon arriving at the school, nahee was greeted by kids her age ranting about how excited they were to see the boys live, some even in tears. nahee wasn’t the biggest kpop fan, especially compared to some of the other girls in her class, but she did know the hits that she would constantly hear at the mall and all of the prologue singles knight had released. her lack of knowledge about kpop didn’t lessen her excitement, as she had been smiling since she had begun getting ready for tonight.

the bus ride there was around an hour and a half, but as someone had once said, “time goes by fast when you’re having a blast!” once arriving to the arena, nahee was surrounded by girls with cameras bigger than she had ever seen before, colorful slogans with the members’ faces plastered on them, and people hanging out papers with the lyrics along with the fanchants for the songs that were to be performed tonight written on them. it was amazing to her how these people were so dedicated to this group of singers that they would spend their free time creating stuff dedicated to them. 

“how cool would it be to sing in front of this many people, crowd full of signs with your face on them? they’re so lucky.” she would say to her classmate, before grabbing one of the papers with the lyrics and fanchants on them and walking to her assigned seat.

they weren’t close enough to the stage to make eye contact with one of the members, but not far enough to make the twelve boys on the stage look like ants. she was screaming along to the fanchants the whole concert, so much that she had lost her voice by the time they were sent backstage to meet the members. her male classmates would roll their eyes when she would completely freak out when one of the members would do a simple body roll. after the performance concluded, nahee was left with a feeling she had never felt before. the way the members were able to move their bodies so in sync that it seemed like they were all being controlled by one person was amazing. the way the members were able to reach high notes despite having extremely difficult and hard hitting choreography left her in awe. and the way the members had thousands of people singing along to their songs and screaming their names made her a bit jealous, honestly. she wondered how it was possible to be so cool. she was INSPIRED to be just like them.

when it was time to meet the members, nahee had no clue on what to say to them. the members would stand in front of the choir students in a straight line before bowing and introducing themselves. nahee, along with pretty much everyone else standing with her, would stare at the members in complete awe, mouths in a perfect “o” shape. when the teacher asked if anyone had anything they would like to ask the members of knight, nahee stood aside as her fellow classmates asked for a member’s hand in marriage or how to do a certain dance move. once it got quiet, the young girl stepped forward.

“do you think i could become an idol?” she asked, looking up at the members with a serious expression on her face, trying her best to ignore the laughter coming from the classmates behind her.

“although we’ve just debuted, we know that this job of ours is not an easy job. but if you have the passion and the dedication to become an idol, then yes – of course you could become an idol.” one of the members replied, earning an ear to ear grin from the middle schooler.

on the bus ride back to incheon, one of the boys in her class would turn around in his seat and say, “you’re not good enough to be an idol, nahee – you’re clumsy and not even the best singer in the choir. he only said what he said back because if he didn’t, he’d be considered an asshole, you know that right?”

nahee would reply with a shrug before putting her earbuds in and blasting decipher, bee, knight, and any other kpop artist’s song she could find.

giggling was the instant response yoona had to nahee’s complaint. mandarin was a difficult language for many to learn, any form of the chinese language had a high level of struggle that would come along with it. the language had many complicated parts to it. “at least you’re learning mandarin and not cantonese, that’s even harder,” the older of the two joked, leaning her elbows against the table they were sitting at. this wasn’t the first time she had assisted someone in learning a language, though usually she got requests for english or japanese, not the language the majority of people in the country she claimed as home spoke. why had yoona taken up the younger on her offer? she didn’t really know why. for her new years resolution she had decided she was gonna try new things so why not add marijuana to that list. “we’ve barely started on the tones and you’re already stressed?” the older was once again laughing quietly, a bright smile across her face. this was great entertainment. 

“are you kidding me? cantonese is the next one on my list!” she groaned, running a hand through her newly dyed black hair. nahee was definitely frustrated with these lessons. sure, she had been taught other languages before, but never one of such high difficulty. regardless, she was not the type to give up on something she had already agreed to, so she was going to push through it, despite how much stress it was causing her. plus, it was another excuse to smoke. “yes! i’m tellin’ ya, i suck at this stuff.” she shrugged before leaning back on her chair and letting out another defeated groan. pushing the book aside, nahee cleared her throat. “personally, i think we should take a ten minute break and put this good stuff to use.” she suggested, gesturing towards the bag of weed sitting across the table.

“thanks, see you next time.” nahee watched as the mysterious figure disappeared into their car and drove into the darkness. after looking around to make sure no one was around her (not like anyone would recognize her when she was wearing dark oversized clothes, a cloth face mask, and sunglasses at 12am), she stuffed the eighth of weed into her jacket and began walking back to the bus stop. the thought of being caught buying drugs off the street was a terrifying thought for the girl group member, but she had been doing this since she was young and stopping now was not an option. yes, she loved being an idol and her world would fall apart if all of this came to an end, but she loved weed almost as much. she never understood why people were so against weed when it helped with so much. it helped her relax after a long day of schedules, calmed her down when the hate became too much to handle, and most important of it all – it was fun. she knew she wasn’t the only idol in the world who felt this way, as she had met plenty of people in the same profession of her who enjoyed smoking weed, one being the maknae of bee. alyssia and nahee were crazy together. if there was a party around, they knew about it. and for the nights there wasn’t anything going on, you could find the two smoking weed in a sketchy area inside of alyssia’s car. noticing the bus had already approached the stop, nahee sprinted and hopped on, securing a seat at the back. pulling out her phone, she began to dial up a familiar number at times like these. “alyssia!!! yep, i got it. do you wanna meet at the regular place in fifteen? and don’t worry, i have some spray for your car so it won’t reek.”

“oh my god, they’re gonna be pissed!” the younger girl laughed as she squeezed the remaining toothpaste between the two oreo cookies. anytime nahee and namsoo were together, it was a fun time, for them, that is. they had met each other when nahee debuted in 2015 and automatically clicked, instantly becoming extremely close with each other. throughout the years, they become pretty notorious in the idol world for being troublemakers, constantly acting like little kids and pranking the people around them. so when they heard the news that they were to film an episode of a variety show together, they were shocked that the staff was willing to deal with the two pranksters, but also extremely excited to pull another prank, this time on the hosts. they had bought a container of oreos, removed the filling, and spread out toothpaste between the two cookies to make it look like it was just your normal oreo. sure, it was a lot of work, but the look on the hosts’ faces was definitely going to be worth it. “are you ready for this?”

coming off the stage after performing what she would say to be one of her best performances yet, nahee was definitely feeling herself to say the least. her adrenaline was high and her confidence was even higher. as she piled backstage with her eight other group members, she made sure to bow to her seniors and give a friendly hug to all of the fellow idols she was familiar with. before moving along, one idol in particular caught her eye. she had seen her around before, but never really had any desire to speak to her. kyunghwa, was it? nahee wasn’t the biggest fuse fan, only really listening to their music when she had to, but that didn’t mean she didn’t recognize beauty when she saw it. the thought of whether to approach her or not was bouncing back in forth in the twenty year old’s head, before shrugging her shoulders and letting out a mumbled “fuck it”. clearing her throat and putting a strand of her behind her ear, still feeling a natural high from the performance she had completed, nahee approached the girl. “hey, you’re kyunghwa, aren’t you? i’m nahee from wish, if you didn’t know that already. anyway, i was just wondering if you’d like to see a magic trick? you give me your phone and my phone number will magically appear in it. abracadabra!”

“god, this is the most confusing language i’ve ever seen.” the girl groaned (although she said the exact same thing about english and japanese) before letting out a defeat sigh. nahee was fascinated by learning new languages. she knew a decent amount of english, enough to greet the audience at kcon and have conversations with fans she met on the streets of new york city and los angeles. then during her trainee days, she was taught basic japanese, the perfect amount to converse with her fans at japanese fanmeets. while she was working on becoming completely fluent in those two languages, the singer was determined to learn another language – mandarin. with wish becoming a globally recognized group – it only made sense for her to learn as many languages as possible. that’s where yoona came into the picture. the two had met backstage at a music festival and nahee had overheard the femme fatale member speaking in mandarin, so she immediately struck up a conversation with her. that conversation lead to the two becoming friends and learning a bit more about each other, such as how yoona had always been tempted to smoke weed and that nahee just happened to have a couple of pre rolls stashed away in her jewelry box. so they made a little deal: yoona would teach nahee mandarin and in return nahee would smoke her out as a form of payment. “we should’ve smoked before starting this. i’m already stressed.”

nahee was born to a single mother in incheon, south korea 

she’s an only child

her father died months before she was born & this made her mom work 38843783x harder than she had before not just so she could support nahee but also so she could distract herself from the pain of losing her soulmate

nahee never really got the attention she felt that she deserved from her mother

tried to get her mother’s attention by being a straight a student

but that didn’t work

joined her school’s choir when she was super duper young

her mom didn’t like her doing choir

her choir team was super successful 

so successful that they got to go backstage of a knight concert and talk to them about being a professional singer !!!

that’s when nahee knew she wanted to be an idol

her mom didn’t rly approve of that either

this sparked a change in nahee’s personality

she no longer was getting straight a’s, she decided to become a bad kid instead

she was bullying kids, ditching class, stealing, going out super late doing illegal activities, etc

she had some fun during this phase of her life but she didn’t rly like bullying kids and she didn’t truly fit in this group of people

the school threatened to kick her out and her mom was like “oh hell naw,,,ik i hated the idea of you being a singer or whatever but that was the only time you seemed to be yourself so pack ur bags i’m sending u to live with ur aunt and uncle in seoul so u can go to a performing arts school”

she loooooved the performing arts school she got sent to and regained her love for singing

the performing arts school gave her the confidence to audition for bc entertainment (spoiler: she made it)

she trained from late 2012 - until the end of 2015 which was when wish debuted

but when wish debuted her iljin past was brought up and despite bc saying all accusations were false, ppl still hated her

and the media became obsessed with making her seem like a bitch (they still are lw)

this rly impacted her and killed her self esteem (although she tries her best not to show this side of her)

bUT SHE LOVES THE IDOL LIFE !!!! AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER SHE FEELS LIKE SHE BELONGS SOMEWHERE BC SHES DOING SOMETHING SHE LOVES 

she’s super easy to befriend, very very very (no pun intended) determined to become the most successful idol ever she can be, extremely empathetic for those around her bc she feels so bad about the things she did when she was younger, & just loves to have fun !!!

on variety shows, she’s known as the “4D member” bc she’s so blunt and random and just says whatever is on her mind (kinda exaggerates that for screen time but ya know it be like that sometimes)

there’s still traces of her rebellious days in her

she sometimes has too much fun when wish don’t have promotions (lw a bad influence)

but she doesn’t bully people anymore thats a no no

on the other hand, she’s wayyyyyy too blunt which often leads her to be hypocritical (especially towards her group members), her temper is pretty bad (she never admits to being wrong, she'd rather start an argument), & she doesn’t rly like getting close to people bc she’s afraid she’s gonna hurt them like she hurt the ppl in her past (this usually leads to her leading someone on and then abruptly cutting them off and hurting them anyway)

she may seem like a bitch in certain situations but she’s rly not :(( she’s just rly regretful and scared of hurting other ppl 

like if she hurts your feelings there’s a pretty good chance she’ll apologize the next day
