Been seeing people get mad at toriel for drinking and bringing a strange man into the house, and it's got me thinking.
It's not just toriel. So far arcs that have happened include
-Ralsei teaching Susie how to heal, and then undervaluing her efforts, causing her to lose confidence in her abilities.
-Susie being the number one Ralsei supporter, but also doing things that reinforce his belief that he is somehow lesser (Using him as a stepping stool, putting the controllers back to normal and in doing so cutting short the first moment of real autonomy he's ever experienced).
-Lancer throwing Susie in jail to protect her from his dad and his dad from her.
-Queen trying to protect noelle by turning her face into a robot.
-Tenna trying to make kris have fun by force.
-As clearly evidenced by the chapter 4 snowgrave continuation, kris does sincerely care about Noelle. And yet most of the stories she has of them are about kris being sort of bad to her. Playing pranks, hiding under her bed, chasing her around and scaring her. Noelle doesn't even know if Kris thinks of her as a friend. There is nothing we can do that makes Kris angrier than hurting her.
And it seems to me that this game is, at least in part, about the ways that you can hurt people you really do care about, without meaning to, without even realizing that's what you're doing. It's about people failing to be good to each other, and it's also about forgiveness in the wake of it. These characters are trying, dammit, and the narrative says that that's worth something, even if their best efforts aren't enough to stop them from fucking it up a little.

DELTARUNE CHAPTER 5 SHADOW CRYSTAL BOSS THEORY
Will this happen in Ch 5? Probably not.
Is it POSSIBLE that it COULD happen? Yes.
Would it be peak if it did? Absolutely.
Spoilers for Chapter 4 under the cut!
I think that Asgore will be the secret boss of Chapter 5.
We know from the Holiday Manor segment of Ch 4 that Asgore has somehow acquired a Shadow Crystal/Black Shard. We don't know how he got one, but its likely from the same person that gave them to Spamton, Jevil, and Gerson. Probably The Knight since a chipped piece of their sword is also refered to as a "Black Shard."
Tumblr media
The Shadow Crystals are capable of driving people insane, as seen with Jevil and Spamton, and that is most likely the intention. Gerson did not succumb to this due to having a stronger, more wisened mind than the others, able to ignore the crystal's temptations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Asgore has been in a bad spot for years, having lost his old job, wife, and most of his savings, having to work as a housekeeper for the Mayor just to stay afloat. He seems convinced that he can get his old life back if he can just prove what really happened during a currently unknown incident. We can speculate that this incident, the one that lost him his job and caused Toriel to divorce him, was the disappearance of December Holiday. Mayor Carol Holiday seems to be finnancing this obsessive pursuit of his, allowing his fruitless search to continue.
He's already losing his mind. He talks to his own flowers and calls it good company. Were a Shadow Crystal to be added to that already massive pile...
So, here's what I think'll go down in Ch 5:
During the festival, a Dark Fountain is opened inside Asgore's flower shop. He heads out to ask Toriel to be his festival date, only to see her with the convenience store skeleton who gives him free pickles.
Tumblr media
He returns to his shop, heartbroken, and winds up in the Dark World. Kris and Susie discover the Dark World, maybe after seeing Asgore get rejected, and rush in to help him. Ralsei meets up with them, and they eventually find Asgore.
I think we'll get to see what we thought we would get in Chapter 3: Toriel/Asgore interacting with Ralsei.
Tumblr media
Asgore mistakes Ralsei for Asriel, thinking he must've come home early from college just to see his old man. Ralsei is too overwhelmed to correct him. The Fun Gang continues on through the Dark World, with Asgore perhaps helping with some ACTs along the way.
Eventually, The Fun Gang helps Asgore with a quest and it results in them all being alone. Ralsei finally decides to correct Asgore, saying that he's not Asriel. Asgore is dismissive at first, then finally takes a good look at him.
Now, a sane person would realize that they simply confused the fluffy boy for someone else.
An emotionally distraught Asgore who has been living off scraps, chasing a case for years, to the point of destroying his life in the process? And in ownership of a Shadow Crystal?
This isn't Asriel, this is an imposter. Someone stole his son's identity and was now hanging out with his youngest. Why would someone steal Asriel's Identity?
What if... it was to trap someone? What if December disappeared because someone tricked her? Lured away by a friendly face? The face of her best friend?
This was it. His best shot at redemption. A column of flames separate Ralsei from Kris and Susie. All he has to do in order to get his wife back, his job back, his life back...
Tumblr media
...is take this imposter in.
And just like that, the Shadow Crystal Boss of Chapter 5 is revealed to be a 1v1 between the Dark Prince and the Flower King, similar to Susie and Gerson's duel. Ralsei has to use ACTs to calm Asgore down enough in order to pacify him. I don't think we'd get a unique soul type in this fight (yellow or green) but it could use some elements from Undertale like orange attacks.
And of course, Bergentrückung/ASGORE remix with the freedom motif. In the Shadow Crystal's delusions, Asgore sees his freedom dangling right in front of him, ready for him to claim it.
Thematicly, Asgore fits in with the other Shadow Bosses, or at least Jevil and Spamton. The Crystal drove them mad, leading to extreme lengths taken to reclaim what was once theirs.
Once the crystal is taken away from him, Asgore apologizes and laments to Ralsei, who tries to give some encouragement. It could also give Ralsei some character development, showing that he can indeed make an impact on the world around him. He isn't just a follower/guide to the heroes of prophecy. He is a person. A person who is capable of more than he thinks.
Anyway, that's my silly little theory. Don't think it'll actually happen, but man would it be cool to see. To finally get some Asgore love after how much he got shafted in Undertale.
Would be nice.

Just got done playing Deltarune Ch 3&4 and…
I’m still comprehending the fiction I just experienced because oh my GOD.
The character development and revelations are absolutely astounding. Night and day comparisons between now and Ch 1.
AND THE GAME’S HILARIOUS!?!
Toby Fox is a genuine masterclass of a writer.

ISAT AU/FIC IDEA
That I may or may not be thinking about writing
Yes, it involves making the loops worse for Siffrin to experience
Seems to be my brand by this point
(Concept under the cut. ISAT typical TW’s)
What if… the bodies remained? The remains of whenever Siffrin loops persist between them? A crumpled mess of bloody cloth in the middle of the death corridor, frozen statues gathered near tears, a pile of bodies right in front of The King. How could Siffrin explain any of that? How would the party react? What if Siffrin gets to the point of using his dagger?Would Siffrin become more frugal with the loops? What happens when he loops out of emotion? Does that create a ghost instead?
Bonus torment (if you REALLY wanna screw with the Traveller’s head): Imagine if Siffrin didn’t remember the loops, and had to figure everything out just from the corpses, no Loop to guide him? Would he write notes to himself, or would he not want to burden his family? The King would most certainly catch on, seeing another addition to the pile walk in.
Imagine. Euphrasie on the roof, surrounded by a crowd of specters that she cannot perceive. She doesn’t understand the other’s confusion, seeing them maneuver around obstacles that aren’t there. When the Traveller finally speaks to her, they become noticeable. How many times had she said these lines? How many times have things gone wrong?
How deep does the rot go?

I love the triple fakeout with Morgan's characterization
She's introduced in Episode 0 like this experienced noir detective who immediately sees through the case and solves it expertly. Highly intelligent, perceptive, cunning, she holds all the cards.
Then you realize she knew who committed the murder ahead of time (because it was her) and she was really just lying her entire face off the whole time, to both her client and the audience. It reframes her entirely. Now she's not an expert detective, but a mastermind, a supervillain, a perfect killer. Excessively detail-oriented, and impossible to touch. She spends a whole scene gloating to herself.
Then Emma enters the scene and we see Morgan when she's up against someone who can rival her: out of her depth. She's still pretty damn intelligent, but she can't hold a candle to Emma. Her smug demeanor is crushed instantly under Emma's analysis, especially when she begins to read Morgan's character to filth, without even knowing who she's talking about. Suddenly Morgan is being framed as childish, obsessive, not to mention *un-self-aware.*
Then finally, in Episode 1, we see what Morgan is like when she's handling a case she didn't cause herself. And she's kind of a total mess. She's not the unaffected killer she purports to be in the slightest. She gets emotional, she gets attached, makes totally illogical decisions, and then justifies them to herself. Her tactics amount to bluffing, sowing confusion, and making a mockery of the court. She's almost.... trolling. The calm and collected noir detective from the opening of Episode 0 is... nowhere to be seen.
The thing is, all of these characterizations build on eachother. We're not contradicting what we learned earlier, we're just recontextualizing. She's still intelligent, smug, and extremely precise, she's just also childish, un-self-aware and out of her depth. Each scene just tells us more about her. We've hit Maximum Morgan.
