Lore time!

⚠Warning: Angst⚠

Someone in the comments suggested that Cotton belonged to Kaufmo, so I'm gonna give a bit of lore now.

Cotton joined the circus soon after Kaufmo did. Since Cotton was a stray, even before entering the circus, Kaufmo adopted him. However, Kaufmo disliked dogs (not like Caine, Caine was just full-on hatred), so taking care of an energetic breed was a challenge for him and it put a lot of stress on him.

Kinger was the only one besides Kaufmo who knew about Cotton and he agreed to keep him a secret. Kaufmo went through many years of stress and anxiety when it came to taking care of Cotton.

Kinger often had to act as an emotional support to keep his sanity, but Kaufmo's anxiety got way too high during a digital adventure and he ran off to his room to be with Cotton. Kinger tried to get his attention by knocking on his door and asking to come in, but Kaufmo always lashed out at him and refused to come out.

That's when Pomni joined the circus. Kinger really wanted to go comfort Kaufmo during his anxiety attack even though it put pressure on him as well, but Kaufmo unfortunately abstracted due to the stress. After he abstracted, Kinger took care of Cotton.

Yeah, that's the main reason Kinger's crazy in this AU. To summarize it, he was friends with Kaufmo, tried to help him through anxiety attacks, Kaufmo abstracted, Kinger took Cotton, and he's slowly becoming insane himself.

Here is my OC, Cotton. I've decided to officially make him a part of the Forbidden Pet AU.

I haven't decided who owns him though. I have decided, however, that he will NOT belong to Jax or Gangle since Gangle already has a cat and she probably wouldn't feel safe exposing a dog to such a skittish cat, and Friskies already belongs to Jax and German Shepherds are already very energetic dogs. So are huskies though, and we don't want to put too much stress on Jax.

Problems

Jax woke up with a busting headache. He groggily looked down at his chest and saw Friskies curled up.

He smiled softly and scratched Friskies's ear. He groaned and he wondered what made his head hurt so badly.

"Friskies, get up..."

Friskies sat up and tilted his head. He sniffed really close to Jax's face. Jax's headache got worse. It was becoming unbearable.

"Ugh... maybe Caine will have something..."

He got up and rubbed Friskies's chin with his finger.

"Stay here. I'll be back."

He left the room. His migraine was at its peak now. He covered his face and sneezed into his arm... then it became a fit of sneezing.

The odd animal-like humanoid creature, Springy, let out a growling noise and approached him, stumbling with every step he took.

"What are you doing, Swirly-eye?"

Jax coughed a bit. The areas around his nose and cheeks were getting red. Springy made a 'cawing' noise, similar to a crow, and put his paw on his shoulder.

"I'm fine. Probably just a minor cold or something."

Oddly enough, he sneezed less after he walked away from his room. His head still hurt and his body felt groggy though, so he still wanted to talk to Caine.

Springy and Jax headed to the main area, where everyone was. Zooble seemed to notice Jax's behavior immediately.

"Jax, are you feeling okay?"

"I'm fine, just a bit of a headache."

He sneezed again. Zooble stumbled backwards, falling into Gangle's arms. They both looked at him, surprised. Jax groaned.

"It'll probably go away at some point. Just ignore it."

Caine noticed Jax's behavior as well.

"Jax, you don't look so good!"

His voice was loud and obnoxious as usual. Jax's headache got worse. He raised his voice.

"Lower your voice, Caine!"

Caine summoned something out of thin air.

"Take some tylenol and get back in bed! Don't wanna spread something around, do you?"

Jax sighed heavily. He took the medicine bottle and headed back to his room.

He sat on his bed and took two of the pills, then he laid down. He already felt a lot better, but he couldn't figure out why.

Friskies hopped onto the bed and laid down on Jax's chest. Jax scratched him behind the ear, then he had to sneeze again. That's when it hit him. His heart sank.

"Oh no... I'm allergic..."

Wasn't expecting that, were you?

(It actually wasn't my original plan, but I randomly had this thought in the shower and I decided to do it)

Also, Springy is one of my OCs. Like Zooble, he is a mix-and-match toy, however, he is an animal in a humanoid body. He isn't a mammal if that gives you any ideas.

Doggy Zoomies

Jax stirred awake to the sound of yipping. When he opened his eyes, he saw Friskies sitting on his chest. He barked, staring deep into his eyes.

Jax sighed. "Get off of me."

He picked Friskies up and sat him on the floor. Friskies hopped onto the bed and whimpered. Jax was beginning to get frustrated.

"What do you want?"

Friskies was holding something in his mouth. It was a dirty sock. Not only that, it was JAX'S dirty sock.

"Hey, put that down! I haven't washed it in a month!"

Friskies ran to the door and pawed at it. Jax sighed.

"You can't go out there. It's too dangerous."

Friskies whined.

"Friskies, no."

He walked over to pick Friskies up, when suddenly, the puppy seemed to flinch, but he was wagging his tail.

"Friskies, come-"

Before Jax could finish, Friskies started running around like crazy. Every time he got near him, Friskies jumped backwards and the craziness only repeated.

"Friskies, come on! I need to get some sleep!"

Jax was about to explode into pure rage, but he kept calm for Friskies's sake. No matter how he tried to catch Friskies, the dog was much faster. So, so much faster.

Jax felt like he was going to collapse. He was absolutely exhausted. Friskies walked over to him and dropped the dirty sock.

"Don't ever pick that thing up ever again. That's disgusting."

Friskies barks. Jax rolls his eyes and he lays down on the floor. Friskies curls up next to him and falls asleep. Jax smiles a bit and he strokes the puppy's back.

"Well, you may be crazy, but I still love you."

He finally closes his eyes and drifts off to sleep.

And yes, Friskies is an adult in this image. Jax basically had him for years and never told anyone. How he managed to keep a dog hidden for that long, your guess is as good as mine.

Lost Puppy

Jax had awoken late at night to the strange sound of scratching. It sounded like some kind of animal.

Iveri, maybe? Did Gangle let her cat roam the circus at night again?

Jax laid his head on his pillow and shut his eyes, trying to ignore the noises. However, he could not, he just kept tossing and turning in his bed. His entire mind was flooded with thoughts.

What's that noise? Is it Iveri? It doesn't sound like a cat. It can't be a raccoon. Why would one of those be in the digital world?

Jax covered his head with his pillow, trying really hard to go back to sleep, but he couldn't. He felt like he had to get up to see what was going on.

He got up and left his room to see what was making that annoying noise. He checked everyone else's rooms.

It can't be Iveri, she's curled up in Gangle's bed. It can't be Prazi, he's with Pomni. There was nothing in anyone else's rooms. He just couldn't figure out what was going on.

He wandered around the circus, feeling really groggy. He just couldn't shake the feeling that something was there.

He felt like he checked everywhere he had access to. That was until he saw two eyes in a dark corner. Well, one eye and a button.

Jax asked himself, "What the hell is that?"

He walked close to the corner to get a better look. He looked like some kind of animal. He was whimpering and shaking as he stared up at Jax with wide eyes.

"Is that a... dog? Caine hates dogs..."

Jax thought about leaving the dog, but despite being such an a-hole to everyone, the good in his heart wouldn't let him leave him behind.

He sighed, kneeling down in front of the dog. his colors didn't reveal anything about his breed, but because of his build, size, and fur texture, Jax assumed that he was a German Shepherd.

He quietly whistled to call the dog over. He wasn't just a dog, he was a puppy. Lowering his head, the dog slowly approached Jax, sniffing him curiously.

Jax slowly moved his hand to the dog's neck to pet him. "It's okay, you're safe."

He slowly lifted the dog into his arms. For a little puppy, he was pretty heavy. He allowed the puppy to snuggle into his arms as he headed to his room.

Jax sat on his bed and sat the puppy down on his lap. It stared up at him, wagging his tail. Jax sighed. He knows how Caine feels about dogs.

Not only that, Jax has no idea how to take care of a dog, let alone a puppy. Is he supposed to feed this thing? What do they even eat?

The puppy barked. Jax put his hand on the puppy's cheek and gently rubbed it with his thumb. He stared at his adorable face, knowing he can't let Caine delete him.

"I'll protect you with my life..."

If he was going to take care of this puppy, he knew he needed a name. Puppies are usually really playful and energetic. As the puppy curled up on his bed to go to sleep, a name came to Jax's head.

"Friskies."

He slowly petted Friskies until he fell asleep. He yawned, feeling drowsy himself. He laid down on his bed next to Friskies, finally able to fall asleep.
