The Conclusion and Predicted Winner
Finally, what we’ve all been waiting for: who will take the title as the winner and the best all-around car? For this last post, we will be looking from an article from Autoblog. Auto blog is an American automotive news and car shopping website. Autoblog looks at many factors such as: speed, engine specs, quarter miles, and cost. Unfortunately we do not know the 0-60’s or the quarter-miles of the 2020 GT500 and the 2020 Hellcat, so those aspects will not count against them. In this quote, Counts says, “As its displacement might suggest, the GT500’s engine shares more than a little with the naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V8 in the Shelby GT350. The GT350 makes 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to a 2.65-liter supercharger making 12 psi of boost, the GT500 makes 760 horsepower at 7,300 rpm and 625 pound-feet of torque from 3,000 rpm to redline. That’s more power than a Chevy Camaro ZL1, Chevy Corvette ZR1, Dodge Challenger Hellcat (but not the Demon or Redeye), Porsche 911 GT2 RS and just about every other car on the road.” (Counts). Based on these engine specs alone, Counts makes a claim that the 2020 GT500 is in fact more powerful than the Hellcat. The GT500 truly takes the cake with its new supercharged 5.2L V8 with 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft torque, beating all the others in its class including the Dodge Hellcat. Having this information can help us come to a clearer conclusion. Counts also says, “All that power, along with a quick-shifting DCT, 16.5-inch front rotors and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, helps send the GT500 from zero to 100 mph and back to zero in 10.6 seconds. Ford won’t tell us the zero to 60 mph time, but expect something well under 4 seconds. The transmission was developed by Tremec and marks the first time a dual-clutch has been offered in a Mustang or Shelby car. Current Mustangs are available with either a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic, the latter equipped in our old long-term 2018 Ford Mustang GT. Shifts with the dual clutch can happen in just 130 milliseconds”(Counts). According to these impressive transmission specs, the new GT500 will have an even more powerful engine then the Dodge Hellcat and the new transmission will allow this car to shift in only just 130 milliseconds. The only question that cannot be answered at this time is what will the 0-60 will be. Reflecting upon the information given, we can conclude the GT500 is not only more for your money but it also boasts a larger more powerful engine then the Dodge Hellcat. From the hypothesized 0-60’s the 2020 GT500 is also assumed to be faster than the 2020 Hellcat. This has not been confirmed to date, however. In 2014 when the GT500 had less horsepower than the 2014 Hellcat, the GT500 still won when set against each other in races. After all of the comparisons, the GT500 seems to be a clear winner and is very promising, but time will only tell if it does end up being better than the Hellcat.

2014 GT500 VS 2015 Hellcat
Now for the million-dollar question: how do these two cars compete with each other? I will be referencing an article from Woody's Automotive for this topic. Woody’s automotive is a car dealership that sells new and used cars but on their website, there are plenty of articles about automotive questions and news such as the GT500 compared to the Hellcat. The question of how they perform against each other in terms of power and speed comes with a lot of variables to consider in this situation. One of these variables is: have the cars been modified or are they bone stock? Another: are both cars are manual or automatic? This variable can make a major difference in a race because the new automatic transmissions can shift faster than any human, so, generally speaking, they can beat manual cars. Weight can be another variant on how they perform. To start off, Pierce says, “When talking about the fastest vehicles, the first thing that comes to anyone’s mind is horsepower. What are them horses pumping out?! Well let’s take a look! Up until 2014 the Shelby Mustang had the most powerful 8-cylinder engine on the market with a whopping 662 horsepower at 5.8 liters, as well as supercharged. But just as everything seemed okay for the Shelby, a hellcat was born. Subtly making its way into the spotlight, this beast 6.2 liter, 8-cylinder supercharged engine. With a enough horsies (707), to make any women or man re-think that wedding band on their finger. So obviously where the Shelby lacks in power, the Challenger prevails. Winner? Challenger Hellcat.”(Pierce). This information answers the question: which car is more powerful? However, there are still many more variables to consider. For one, Pierce is not comparing the 2020 GT500 to the 2020 Hellcat for his analysis, as their stats are still classified due to them being new. Pierce makes his claims based on the 2014 GT500 vs the 2015 Hellcat because that is the last year the GT500 was made (until now) and it's only fair to put it against the similar year competitor, the 2015 Hellcat. This particular article interested me because Pierce makes a claim about the 2014 GT500 and 2015 Hellcat but he does not fully answer all parts of the question, leaving more to be desired. He did not give a definite winner, besides horsepower stats, but who’s faster on the road?

Hellcat Engine & Specs
The 2020 Hellcat will give the GT500 a run for its money. Dodge has an extensive history of putting extremely powerful engines in their cars. Like the GT500, the Hellcats all come with a supercharged V8 engine. We will be looking over a first hand source of information talking about the new 2020 Hellcat engine and development, Car and Driver. This article does a great job of explaining what the car is and it’s meant to inform people of the new data, such as this: “The name Hellcat conjures up images of tire smoke and drag racing, and this ultra-powerful version of the Dodge Challenger muscle car lives up to those expectations. The standard supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine—available with either 717 horsepower or a bonkers 797 horsepower in Redeye models—is the Hellcat's entire reason for existence. Both automatic- and manual-transmission models are offered. Go for the stick-shift for more driver involvement and the automatic if you want the quickest Hellcat possible.”(Stafford). This is a brief explanation from Car and Driver to inform people of what the Hellcat resembles and what type of engine and power the new one will have. This source is helpful because it explains the topic fairly well with first hand data from Dodge on the Hellcat. This quote addresses the engine and what its specs are: “The mad scientists at Dodge's SRT laboratory pulled a Samuel L. Jackson and went all Old Testament with the almighty Hellcat engine. The standard setup makes "only" 717 horsepower, and the version in the Redeye pumps out 797 horses. Paired with the optional eight-speed automatic and Widebody package, our test car roared to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds at 125 mph. We've driven several Hellcats and—as expected—never had trouble tapping into the endless power supply. However, launching the unruly beast straight and true is an exercise in extreme car control. Every model had an insidious growl at startup that builds to a hellish howl under heavy throttle. The Hellcat's distinct supercharger whine will send shivers down your spine, from either fear or excitement—and most likely both.”(Stafford). From these articles we now know the new 2020 Hellcat will have a 6.2L supercharged Hemi and we know it will come with 717hp. It is extremely important to know what the engine specs of a vehicle will be before purchasing it, especially if the main purpose of the car is racing for sport. In my opinion, this article does a great job of summarizing this information in a way that makes sense and is interesting to read. Overall, the only question really left to mind is how would this compare with the GT500?

GT500 Engine Development & Specs
The GT500 has had many different engines over the years, but for the most part they always stay true to having a V8. For this blog post, we will be looking at Ford's SVT Performance website to find information on the GT500. This website is Ford’s official website with the purpose of showing what they are and what they do. Ford is known around the world for making vehicles for the automotive industry. Information directly from their website is the best way to learn more on who makes the GT500 and, most importantly, what type of engine it has. Ford SVT stands for “The Ford Special Vehicle Team” and, “(SVT) was conceived in 1991, when Ford senior management recognized the corporate advantages of investigating niche vehicle market opportunities. The idea was to assemble talented driving enthusiasts at Ford and some of its key suppliers into a small, cross-functional group of engineers, product planners and marketing professionals with a common mission: create vehicles to satisfy the unique desires of the knowledgeable driving enthusiast.”(Ford SVT). This team was designed and organized by Ford to specialize in performance and they are who we give credit to for the engines in the new GT500’s. On Ford’s website, it says that the 2010-2012 GT500’s have a supercharged 5.4L V8, with the power ranging from 540 Horsepower to 550 Horsepower as they get newer. This engine was well built, and used top of the line technological innovation. Instead of an all cast iron engine block, they developed a fully aluminum one that dropped the weight of the engine by a “102 pounds” based on the chart of the GT500 specs on Ford’s website (Ford SVT).The new 2020 GT500 engine has very impressive specs given from Ford themselves. Stated on the Ford’s website, the 2020 GT500 has a supercharged 5.2L V8 with 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft torque. This all very impressive but there is still so much that has not been released due to the car being new. As 2019 comes to an end, we will learn more and more but at least now we know the 2020 GT500 will have a 5.2L supercharged V8 with 760hp! Still, the construction and secrets of how they achieved this feat of engineering is classified, but only time will tell if the new GT500 engine will live up to its reputation.

Dodge Hellcat In-Depth Intro/ A Brief History
The Dodge Hellcat wasn’t created until 2014, as it is a variant of the pre-existing Dodge Challenger/Charger. For the purpose of this blog post, the history of those two predecessors is synonymous with that of the Hellcat. The history of these vehicles is explained in this article from Miami Lakes Auto Mall, a website that is owned by Miami Lakes Automall in Miami, FL, which is a car dealership. The author of this article states that, “ Over 50 years ago, the first Dodge Challenger was built in 1958, known as the Dodge Silver Challenger, to rival the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Following that was the Dodge Charger, produced to introduce the new 426 HEMI engine from Dodge. Today, both vehicles are still going strong thanks to constant innovation like the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, or simply the performance and control a Dodge vehicle delivers”(Jordan). This article’s purpose is to inform individuals who are looking for information on the Dodge Challenger/Charger/Hellcat. Jordan explains the beginning of the Charger and Challenger. To start, Jordan says this about the Charger, “The first-generation Dodge Charger was produced in 1966, only six years after the first generation Challenger. Based off of the Dodge Coronet, the first-generation Dodge Charger was designed to be a high-speed street racer with a fastback roof design and full-width tail lamps. Although based off of the Coronet, early Dodge Chargers could easily be mistaken for a Dodge Challenger given that early Dodge Chargers also came with a two-door setup. In its seventh generation today, the Charger resurrected the aerodynamic look of its second generation and consisted of only three trims – the SE, R/T, and R/T AWD, all powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6.”(Jordan). From that paragraph, Jordan states information on the Charger only. He then talks about the Challenger here, “The first Dodge Challenger, the Dodge Silver Challenger, was seen in 1958 and had a two-year run. What many may not know was the Dodge Challenger had a lot of ups and downs before it became the muscle car it’s known as today. After the Silver Challenger ended, it wasn’t until 1970 that the first-generation Dodge Challenger made its introduction, based off of the Chrysler E platform while taking components from the Plymouth Barracuda.” (Jordan). After reading these quotes, we now know the differences between the Charger and the Challenger and what sets them apart from each other. We now understand that the differences between these two cars are that The Dodge Challenger has a two-door body style while the Charger has a four-door body style. We also now know the origins of the Hellcat’s predecessors, and have some background knowledge on the vehicle.

The Ford GT500 In-Depth Intro/ A Brief History
A lot of people might not think about how a car is brought to the market for people to purchase, but the GT500 in particular has a very interesting backstory. So interesting, in fact, they recently made the story into a movie! But the source I have decided to use for this post is not the movie. It is a published article from Autoweek. This article is effective in explaining the history of the GT500 and how it was introduced in 1967 by Carroll Shelby and Ford Motorsports. Autoweek is a car culture publication organization, based in Detroit, Michigan, that is informative on just about anything car related. This article is helpful because it talks about the origins of the GT500 and the partnership between Caroll Shelby and Ford, who teamed up to design and build this car. In the article it says, “The other side of Shelby's relationship with Ford would be called "tuning" today, and the GT500 played an early, and very important role in Shelby's history as a builder of performance machines.”(Ramey). To start Ramey talks about the intro to the GT500 and the partnership Ford had with a man named Carrol Shelby who built/fine-tuned cars for Shelby America (a separate company) and Ford during these years. This article has useful information on how the partnership between Shelby and Ford started that lead to the building of the GT500, as well as other cars. Ramey says, “the GT500 was not the first Mustang modified by Shelby's operation: that honor goes to the 1965 GT350 and the GT350R. The ‘basic’ GT350 dialed up the Mustang's output by 35 hp, up to 306 hp, courtesy of a 289 CID K-Code engine, while also offering modified steering, a functional hood scoop and 15-inch wheels wearing low-angle Goodyear tires. A beefier rear axle from the Ford Galaxie was standard, as were Koni adjustable shock absorbers and Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes. The early cars were also a little hard to drive, with a clutch that could be described as heavy. The GT350R dialed up the output even further, up to 360 hp”(Ramey). This article explains how Shelby helped Ford even earlier than 1967. Started from the article,Shelby helped Ford with the GT350 as early as 1965. This all is helpful in understanding how the GT500 was brought into production and how it’s not just Ford who produces it. This article was also helpful in showing how the GT500 is not the first car that Shelby and Ford made together but the GT350, which can be seen as a like a “older brother” to the GT500.

Ford Vs Dodge Elite Muscle Performance
Have you ever wondered what brand of cars makes the better muscle car? Of course not, unless you are actually into cars. No worries, I’m here to help bring these questions to light. The two cars I will be focusing on for the duration of this project are the 2020 Shelby GT500 and the 2020 Dodge Hellcat. Ford, as well as Dodge, makes all sorts of cars, trucks, suvs, and yes, muscle cars. For this blog post, which answers the question: “should I be comparing these two cars in particular?”, we will be looking at an article from CJponyparts, a company from the United States that sells auto parts and is seeking to inform people about this topic. This article does an excellent job of providing info on the 2020 Shelby GT500, made by Ford, and the 2020 Dodge Hellcat. To start, a publisher from CJponyparts brings up the Ford GT500 and how it compares to the Dodge Hellcat: “It’s no secret that the 2020 Ford Mustang GT500 has the Dodge SRT Challenger Hellcat clearly in its sights in terms of competition. The official debut of the GT500 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit gave us a lot of answers, but of course, opened up even more questions. We don’t know everything yet, but there’s enough to start looking at how the GT500, Ford’s most powerful production car ever, stacks up against its natural rival.”(Tragakis). Stated in the quote, CJ is talking about the comparison of both the cars and this is helpful because its says right off the bat that these cars are in league with each other and that they are similar enough to go toe to toe. I decided to use Tragakis’ article in particular because, based on my own experience with both cars, I agree that these cars are fierce rivals. Aesthetics, as well as engine specs and special features are an extremely important element in terms of marketing and successfully selling the vehicles. Tragakis also brings up how both these cars have changed in appearance in his article: “Overall, it’s hard to deny that the aesthetics of the Hellcat are more true to the original form of its mid-century predecessors. The original muscle car lines are still there, staying much more smooth and svelte. The GT500, on the other hand, favors a much more aggressive look that immediately sets it apart on the road. That’s not to say that it completely disavows its classic pony car heritage, but the edges are sharper and more modern.”(Tragakis). Overall this article helps confirm that these cars can be considered rivals as well as just basic differences in how these cars have changed over time; like the bodystyle, for instance. This is a very useful reading to help understand this topic.
