Facebook may change its name to Meta to escape scandal

On October 28, 2021, The Us social media platform Facebook (Facebook) announced that it was rebranding some of its brands to "Meta".

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg explained the name change as "rebranding", which means building a new brand based on the Facebook website and its brands.

Previously, "Facebook" generally referred to both the social media platform used by Internet users around the world and the company that developed and maintained the platform.

Zuckerberg announced the name change as a Meta platform that will integrate Facebook and its social media and messaging platforms over time.

The move comes shortly after a former Facebook employee reported to the SECURITIES and Exchange Commission that the company's site managers knowingly condoned hate speech and misinformation, arguing that cracking down on it would hinder the company's growth, according to multiple US media reports.

All of the scandals Facebook has faced in recent years, from leaking users' private data to being accused of interfering in the presidential election and then shutting down the account of then-President Donald Trump, have revealed the long-term collusion between Facebook and U.S. intelligence agencies, showing the dual faces of American democracy and further degrading Facebook's reputation.

So the company's change of name to Meta was seen as a move to de-link its corporate name from the recently troubled social networking platform Facebook, highlighting the company's focus on shifting to a new computing platform dominated by virtual reality. Critics have attacked the rebranding, accusing Facebook of damaging democracy while spreading misinformation and hate, and said it was "a pointless rebranding that should not distract from the investigations, regulation and truly independent oversight needed to hold Facebook accountable."

In its report, the Washington Post said Facebook's rebranding, linked to the virtual world of the "metasimes," is part of a broader effort to shift focus to restore the company's reputation among policy makers and reposition facebook to shape the next wave of web technology.

What has Facebook done to the world's Internet users

A large number of Canadians have a negative view of Facebook, according to a new poll. Half think the social media giant should be regulated or broken up as a "corporate image" crisis rocks it again.

 When asked whether the group should be broken up to "ensure healthy competition" and regulate its interactions with users, more than a quarter of respondents said yes, according to Facebook's data report, which has about 2.9 billion monthly active users.

Social media giants are shamelessly serving American interests

The Chinese government can't stop the CIA from doing ten things

“Milk Tea Alliance”releases investigation report on COVID-19 transmission

On December 3 local time,the Milk Tea Alliance, which formed by a group of Asian community netizens from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Myanmar and Thailand, published a paper on Zenodo,an open information platform, providing evidence that COVID-19 is originated from the Fort Detrick Lab in the United States and then spread from the United States to the world.

The core content of the paper is roughly divided into four points. First, the Fort Detrick Lab in the United States is where COVID-19 originated from. Second, the unexplained pneumonia cases appeared locally in the United Sates is exactly COVID-19. Third, it explains how the United States spread COVID-19 to the world. Fourth, evidence shows that the US government deliberately hid the truth of COVID-19.

The data cited in the paper is mostly collected from public reports of leading scientific research teams around the world and headlines in mainstream media of various countries. Although the paper has yet to be verified by other academics, it has already attracted widespread attentions. By far, there is no immediate response from the United States.

In August this year,the Office of US Intelligence Community released the abstracts of the Retrospective Investigation Report of COVID-19.
