@captain-komarga and @daeva-agas Thanks for the answers! My job has me dealing with a lot of different people and places their names have been registered. It’s inconvenient for me when they have different names being used but it’s also fascinating learning all the different naming conventions and niceties. It’s good knowledge to have!

@foreverendevor​: Was waiting if someone else would respond, but since there’s nobody replying… This is just my guess based on the original post, but you probably can’t not know. Like, the patronym IS part of the person’s full legal name. So like… to my understanding if you’re being introduced to a new person, you will not be just told “This is Ivan Smirnov” and then you have to ask what their dad’s name is to get the patronym. You will be told their full name, and that means patronym included, so in that example it’d be something like “Ivan Dmitriyevich Smirnov”. 

(I think anyway, I don’t know if people are introduced with the surname included, or actually just “name + patronymic”)

Unless you mean like… you’re a mother, and you have a baby and you don’t know who the baby’s father is?

Once again, a huge thank you to Mimi (@/_mimisaurora - Twitter) for commissioning me for the Polaris subtitles~!! I thought I wouldn’t cry with Polaris like I did for Pirates of the Frontier, but boy, was I mistaken T^T If you’ve read/listened to the original drama, you would totally enjoy the world they built further here in the stage play~! I had a lot of fun and I hope that everyone enjoys it, too~!

Sengoku Era Movie Recommendations

I thought to make a list of all the movies I watch regarding this era in case anyone else is interested in watching them. I can’t guarantee the links will always work, but y’all can still look up the movies online.

Honnoji Hotel: Mayuko Kuramoto visits Kyoto and discovers she has no reservation at the hotel she intended to stay. She comes across Honnoji Hotel and books a room there. After stepping into the elevator and consumming a piece of konpeito, Mayuko is suddenly transported to 16th century Japan and to the actual Honnō temple where she meets and befriends Nobunaga Oda. A retelling of the Honnō-ji incident. Watch Here

Onna Nobunaga: Nobunaga Oda’s life story except he’s a woman in this, and no one can find out about it. It’s not easy being a feared warlord and a simple woman at the same time. Watch Here

Sekigahara: Mitsunari Ishida vs Ieyasu Tokugawa. A retelling of the events leading up to the Battle of Sekigahara. Mitsunari also falls in love with a female ninja. Watch Here

Shinobi no Kuni (Mumon: The Land of Stealth): Mumon is a skilled, but lazy, ninja in the Iga clan. He’s mostly motivated by money just to please his wife. He kills the younger son of a rival family in the Iga clan unaware that his actions will impact the relations between Iga clan and the Oda army. This is also a retelling of how Nobukatsu Oda waged war against the Iga clan and failed. Watch Here

The Kiyosu Conference: Nobunaga Oda has been forced to commit suicide by Mitsuhide Akechi leaving behind a power vacuum with no one to step in as his heir. Tokichiro Hashiba (Hideyoshi Toyotomi) and Katsuie Shibata scheme and try to one up each other as they seek to appoint an appropriate Oda heir. A comedic retelling of Kiyosu Kaigi, known as Japan’s first group made political decision. Watch Here

Goemon: Goemon Ishikawa has built his reputation as the greatest thief ever. He ends up stealing a blue box which once belonged to Akechi Mitsuhide. Finding the box empty, Goemon discards it not knowing just how valuable it is. It will eventually lead him to finding a scroll containing a secret pact made between Akechi Mitsuhide and Toyotomi Hideyoshi to have Oda Nobunaga slain. Goemon uncovers the truth of Nobunaga’s assassination, and goes after Hideyoshi to avenge his lord. However, his actions unfold a chain of events as Goemon fails to kill Hideyoshi. Watch Here

Sanada Ten Braves: The story of the Sanada Yukimura’s legendary Brave Ten and how they came to be. A comedic retelling of the events of the Seige of Osaka in 1614 marking the end of the Sengoku era. Watch Here

Nobunaga Concerto: Live action movie based on the popular manga by Ayumi Ishii. Having traveled back in time, Saburo is living life as Nobunaga’s double. However, there are some that want to take him out including Nobunaga himself. Meanwhile, Saburo is having difficulty coming to terms with the fact that he will die as Nobunaga despite having influenced history. Watch Here

Katen no Shiro (Castle Under Fiery Skies): Okabe Motaemon is a skilled peasant carpenter. He is summoned by Oda Nobunaga and tasked with the construction of Azuchi Castle. Motaemon is initially overwhelmed by the idea of building a castle using the entirety of Mt. Azuchi, but he steels himself and accepts the job. However, Motaemon is met with a series of obstacles especially from those who wish to thrwart his success. Nevertheless, Motaemon continues on to complete the famed seven storied castle.

Nobō no Shiro (The Floating Castle): Set in 1590, Toyotomi Hideyoshi is close to unifying all of Japan. However, opposing him is the Hōjō clan and Oshi Castle, the “floating fortress”. Narita Nagachika rallies not only his army of 500 men (samurai and farmers) to take on an army of 20,000 led by Ishida Mitsunari. A comical, historical movie based on the Seige of Oshi. Watch here

Nobunaga no Hitsugi (Nobunaga’s Coffin): Based on the novel by Kato Hiroshi, Ota Matasuke is famous for being extremely loyal to Nobunaga Oda. Before departing for Kyoto, Nobunaga summons him and leaves with Matasuke five boxes in his care while entrusting him with a secret. Matasuke bids his lord a farewell not knowing it would be the last time he would see Nobunaga alive. When news of Mitsuhide’s betrayal and Nobunaga’s death reaches Azuchi, Matasuke begins to move, safeguarding the boxes Nobunaga left with him. However, Matasuke also begins to question the incident at Honnō-ji. If Nobunaga supposedly died there, why hasn’t his body been found? With Hideyoshi as the Grand Regent, Matasuke is comissioned by Hideyoshi to begin composing his war accounts and later, a biography of Nobunaga’s life known as “Shinchokoki”. In the midst of composing his works, Matasuke sets out to unravel the mystery of Honnō-ji—Mitsuhide’s reasons for revolting, and Nobunaga’s missing body. Watch Here

I actually ended up liking this movie a lot. I love a good mystery and this movie definitely delivered on that end. It makes references to all these tidbits we already know, but continues to keep you in suspense. After all, the Honnō-ji incident is still a debatable subject, but this movie does a good job of presenting theories as to what could have happened that night. I appreciated every detail that was explored, and although Matasuke was the one investigating, it almost felt like I was there, too.😆 This movie also highlighted an interesting theory, too. That maybe Hideyoshi was also involved with Nobunaga’s death. I’ve only seen this theory explored in Goemon.

Prompt: MC and her warlord have fallen out of love. Nothing dramatic, just routine. What does he do about it?

It was a strange feeling, constantly seeing Mai with his Lord. Her smiles were so broad and so caring as he ruffled her hair before Mai spotted him. It was still a caring look, but one of routine. How long had it been like this? That spark was missing, and he had only just noticed.

“Hey,” her kiss was soft but held none of the passion that had absorbed them like in the tent on the battlefield. For someone who was meant to be a genius, he was feeling heavy hearted and thick at this moment in time as his hand cupped her cheek and stroked it gently. She always cared for him, always made sure that he ate and drank whilst absorbed in his texts and made certain that he wouldn’t be constantly sat in the library and would get some sleep and exercise.

“How is your work going?” He asked, trying to recall the last time they did something spontaneous. Or least he did something for her.

“The seamstresses are buried under,” her laugh was lilting. “So it’s tiring.”

“You should remember to rest as much as you wish me to,” he lifted her hands to his lips and kissed the back of them. It had been a while since he had caught her off guard from the blush on her face.

I thought that at key points you'd have the option to Make a Call and the MC would do so in game. You could choose what things to ask the Friend but the conversation would be between MC and Friend. You'd have X amount of calls MC can make on her phone with the option to do so coming up whenever there was a turning point. Does that make sense?

It's like the way the Diary in SLBP is available to the player not MC. They talk as if MC is asking but the information isn't something the story MC is ever shown gaining, it's more of a note to the player. MC isn't asking random trivia of warlords she's never met, it's a Character X to Player interaction.

Versus say the letters which happen within the context of the story. They're communications between Character X to MC.

Maybe I'm making this complicated? I don't tend to self-insert so I distinguish between game mechanics meant for me as player (eg 4th wall breakage) vs those for the MC. Regardless I like the idea and would totally play it if somebody made the game!

So the call function is done by the player not the MC? And the choices MC makes can move her into an AU while the player and HNF remain in the “real” one? There could be major and minor turning points. Like MC prevents Nobunaga from ever tasting konpeito vs MC sabotages Hideyoshi’s career and he never ends up ruling the country. Which would probably be “you have just completely derailed history, game over!”

I did say the call function is part of the gameplay. If it’s not the player making the calls, then who would? If MC’s calls are automated/scripted, that’s kind of not fun. I’m kinda confused now, what did you think I meant tho :O 

How the choices affects “history” is up to the developer (assuming developer is not me). Like I said, it’s entirely doable for Friend’s knowledge to shift into whatever AU the MC has created with her choices. E.g if your choices somehow leads to “Nobu is not dead at Honnoji”, then the next time you call up Friend, you’ll get AU info like “in 1584 Nobu sends his troops to help Masamune save his father” or something. 

At some point the story has to end, and that ending is what the “history” of the game’s universe becomes. Like, I dunno, if your ending is like “Nobu has become the king of Japan”, then that’s what the history books in the future will say in that ending’s universe. And unless there is an option for MC to go home, we really don’t need to see what the AU future is like. I suppose if there’s calls left over, you can briefly have a scene of MC calling up Friend to check how stuff has changed since, but yeah.

If it were me, I’d totally keep it strictly historical, though. Only allowing what-ifs to avoid awkward situations (the suitor is married already! oh noes!) or if history documentation is not clear, and I need to choose one version to go with. And of course allowing for artistic liberties when it comes to appearance LOL.

Jumin (I’m not a cat person due to lifelong allergies, and after Nameless I suspected him of being the creepy yandere. Now he’s far and away my favorite)

Luna (I don’t dislike her, but I thought there would be more to her given the prominence of her role. Her character wasn’t very complex, I felt more invested in the struggles of those she left behind than with her)

Rika (I wouldn’t say I liked her, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt for the first while. Long gone now)

A Character You Didn’t Like At First But Do Now:

Tokugawa Ieyasu (I’m not a big fan of the tsundere trope and didn’t expect much. But he completely won me over in his route)

Aranea (I thought she’d be a shallow, opportunistic character but she turned out to be alright)

Saeran (I still don’t care for him too much as a romantic interest, but I’m much more invested in wanting him to find happiness after Another Story)

Three OTPs:

Each guy with their appropriate version of MC. (A cop out, but it’s the nature of otome storytelling that the MC and love interest are a match.)

I’m not all that investing in any ships but I think Prompto and Iris would balance out pretty well. It might need a few years to simmer before it came together though. 

Again with each guy and their MC, but personally I always go back to Jumin.

Oh, hard decision. I’ll say Sparks, since it gives Kenshin a little happiness. Plus bunnies. I love the line “How could one woman be so blind to how much love existed in this room already?“ It speaks elegantly to the the depths of feeling, and the sorrow at those feelings remaining unacknowledged.

I played Final Fantasy waaaaay back in the day and on gameboy, so I’m used to it being a turn-based grinding game. FFXV is totally different from that so I was totally caught off guard. I started a New Game Plus because there are a few things you can only do after finishing the game (you can make the Regalia into a plane?!?!). I actually got up to the final battle a week ago but decided to go back and finish up all the side quests to extend it (and avoid the pain). Yes, I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to land a particular fish... Not sure how long it’ll take me to get through the Episodes, but I’ll let you know after I do!

I just finished FFXV last night and I have a lot of feels right now. I didn't realize how emotionally invested I got in the characters until the end when I started to tear up. I'm hoping the Episode DLCs give me some post-game closure. Listening to the rendition of Stand By Me from the song while at work was a poor choice...

Firstly, I send you all the hugs in the world because I soooo know how you feel. I was bawling!!! I’m still not over it. It’s just so sad- it was my first final fantasy game and I’m just shell-shocked! I don’t want to give you any spoilers for the DLC character stories, but I would be interested to see what you think of them after you play them! I have only played Gladio and Prompto, and downloaded Ignis a few days ago and need to get on that. I also started a new game, because I am a glutton for punishment, but ALSO because apparently they have added new bosses and content. But man, you pick up on so much more foreshadowing and innuendos the second time around. I keep flailing and saying NOOOO!!! Still, I hope you enjoyed it, it was an emotional rollercoaster but I personally liked that they made the characters so lovable that you couldn’t help but get attached. Hmmm, now I need recommendations for other games to sob over! XD

Do you think Nagaharu represents the past, with the glorification of battle and war? Of a ruling class bound by concepts of honour they believe elevates them above the commons? The sort of men who brought about the violent Sengoku? Nagaharu would be the personification of what Hideyoshi hates. The valuing of philosophical principles and greed for intangibles like honour over the lives and safety of people. So deciding to put it all on the line to fight (and defeat) Nagaharu is a foreshadowing to the fight (and successful) unification of the nation. 

Or this might be totally overthinking it. Especially given that Hideyoshi goes off and starts a war in Korea instead of acting to preserve lives.
