Oh hey. I learned a bit of magic at the jewelry store that I鈥檝e forgotten to share, please pass the blessing along.
Have you ever had a knot or tangle in a metal chain? Especially the very fine ones, it can be impossible to work them out with your fingers.
My friends, all you need is a thumbtack. In a pinch, a toothpick, needle, or any fine thin stick will do. I have never been defeated by a knot with a thumbtack in hand.
You stick the pointy end into the trickiest part of the knot and slowly just work it in. The knot loosens around it, and I鈥檝e used this metaphor for acupuncture too because it鈥檚 the same principle to me.
But anyway, I鈥檝e untangled chains women brought in that have been stuck multiple hellish kinks and knots for decades. It never fails to astonish them, and honestly it鈥檚 fun. Very tricky knots can take longer but it always works.

I recently watched a video of a pair of Sandhill Cranes raising a Canada Gosling, and it seems that it isn't the first example of it in the last few years. Are cranes like penguins where they will steal eggs/hatchlings if they had an unsuccessful breeding season, or is there some other reason that they 'adopt' baby geese?
If you follow enough birding groups in Sandhill crane territory, you鈥檒l eventually see someone post a baby duckling or goose that is following around a pair of cranes. It鈥檚 not common, but it happens enough to be a thing!
Sandhill cranes don鈥檛 seem to steal babies, but they have an extremely strong parenting instinct. If they find a baby that needs taking care of, you can bet they鈥檙e going to take damn good care of it. There are documented cases of Sandhill cranes adopting unrelated crane chicks as well as geese and domestic ducks. They just love babies. There has even been some research into using Sandhill cranes as foster parents for endangered whooping cranes in order to re-establish a non migrating population of the latter. Sandhill cranes are super parents!

As you know, you can make writers lives easier by doing unnecessary exposition scenes in real life, thereby making them realistic.
