This is the publication of the Cooperativity Project, inside the Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence; a project on accessibility, dedicated in particular to people with Alzheimer’s, affected by other forms of dementia and also to those who take care of it. Within this small “slice” of the project there are my shots made during the first part during the project collaboration, making a report.

Rifugio.

I ragazzi di oggi fanno fatica a trovare luoghi di aggregazione fisica, come i circoli o i bar di un tempo che ormai non esistono quasi più. La tecnologia ci invade fin da piccoli, arrivando a cambiare completamente le nostre abitudini e i nostri comportamenti, ma soprattutto plasmando completamente le nuove generazioni, o i così detti “nativi digitali”. Diventa di conseguenza sempre più raro vedere dei bambini “che fanno i bambini” ai giardinetti pubblici, e sembrano quasi estinti i ragazzi che giocano a pallone per le strade. Quando ero piccolo i cellulari c’erano, ma non avevamo app o altre cose simili, e spesso andavo fuori a giocare con i miei amici. Quando esco di casa, perché amo andare a fotografare la strada, vi posso giurare che trovare dei ragazzi che giocano fra di loro e non stanno al cellulare è veramente difficile. In questo triste scenario, esiste una piccola oasi felice, che è la Parrocchia della Visitazione Beata Vergine Maria. Don Luca, il parroco, grazie anche ai fondi dell’8xmille, ha potuto acquistare un edificio e trasformarlo in un oratorio per ragazzi. Qui i bambini possono ritrovarsi non solo per le attività di catechesi, ma anche per momenti di condivisione e di gioco. L’oratorio è organizzato in modo tale che in esso vengono svolte sia le attività della catechesi, sia quelle ludiche, come il ping-pong e il biliardino, che sono fra i giochi più amati dai ragazzi. Uno degli aspetti più belli che mi è stato mostrato da tutti è l’apertura verso le persone, a prescindere dalla provenienza e dal credo religioso: visione molto rara, soprattutto fra ragazzi così giovani. L’oratorio di trova in prossimità della Chiesa. Si crea così un filo conduttore con tutte le altre attività della parrocchia, come le prove del coro, il consiglio pastorale, e la fondamentale attività di donazione che svolge il gruppo Caritas. I giovani fanno esperienza non solo di attività divertenti, ma anche educative, comprendendo di quante cose si debba tenere conto, quando si è una grande famiglia.

My Father

This is a photography collection, a project about my father. After thinking for a long time, I decided to publish this series. I usually withdraw into myself, avoiding to open up and  express my feelings to others. The main  reason why I’ve carried on with this project  is because I’ve never photographed my mother. That’s one of my greatest sorrows, which has always influenced my work. I rarely take “joyous pictures”, because of this interior melancholy.

I prefer black and white photographs to capture and convey emotions in a picture. In my opinion, the deeper side of the world appears, when colours disappear.

I tried to capture my father’s soul in these pictures, even if it has been hard, because of his refuse to be photographed.

I have recently taken many pictures, ranging from common people, brides and grooms and ill people. Every time I noticed a continuous change in people’ self-awareness: self-consciousness seems to become more negative as time passes and  the signs of age increase on our faces.

I think my father has noticed his physical and inner change too, getting annoyed about these pictures which reflect our changing image.

Mio padre

Ritratto di mio padre

Questo è un ritratto di mio padre; è uno dei miei soggetti preferiti, ho quasi un’ossessione nel fotografarlo. Credo sia dovuto al fatto che ahimè, non ho mai potuto fotografare mia mamma, purtroppo scomparsa prematuramente 16 anni fa.

Mi diverto molto a fotografare mio padre perché è una persona molto introversa e silenziosa, ma allo stesso tempo è estremamente espressivo. I suoi occhi…
