For UK competitor stockbroker Freetrade, Left Lane Capital led a $69 million Series B investment. Draper Esprit, an existing investor, and L Catterton's expansion fund also participated.
Free share is a stock trading platform with 600,000 members in the United Kingdom and a quarterly trade volume of £1 billion.
Freetrade has a post-money valuation of $366 million following today's financing round. In December 2020, the company generated $1.4 million in sales.
When you sign up for Free share, you can use their mobile app to buy and sell stocks. If you wish to invest in a company with expensive shares, such as Alphabet (Google's parent company), you can buy fractional shares. You can buy a tenth of a share for a fraction of the price of a single share, which costs roughly $2,000.
You can trade stocks and ETFs in the United States and the United Kingdom with Freetrade.
The company does not charge a trading commission for basic orders, similar to Robinhood in the United States; however, transactions in foreign currencies incur a 0.45 percent foreign exchange penalty. The company, unlike Robinhood, does not urge you to trade on a daily basis. Individual savings accounts, as well as free general investing accounts, are available through Freetrade (ISA). It's a type of account that's only available in the UK and encourages long-term investments by cutting capital gains tax. You must spend £3 per month to start an ISA with Freetrade. Company-sponsored pension savings accounts are also accessible (SIPP). Contributions are deductible for tax purposes. You're undoubtedly familiar with SIPP if you live in the United Kingdom. These accounts have a monthly charge of £9.99.
Finally, Freetrade offers a premium subscription to its most active consumers. For £9.99, you can have Freetrade Plus. Following that, you'll get 3% interest on cash up to £4,000, plus more stocks and order types (limit and stop loss orders). In addition, you'll receive a free ISA and a SIPP discount. And I'm starting to like the Freetrade app! This, at least for me, is how I believe share trading will evolve in the future. The software is fantastic and quite easy to use. For some reason, it also makes stock purchases more pleasurable. One of the best things is that if you use a Freetrade share referral link like the one provided above, you can get a free stock valued up to £200.
