I think in pursuit of ‘queer joy’ and ‘good representation’ we’ve kinda lost and maybe even often denounce the idea that queer characters in fiction can make mistakes equally as egregious and wrong as cis/hetero/allo characters. I’m not talking about those sort of itsy-bitsy mistakes that generally don’t change the way that readers/consumers view the character as a whole—I’m talking about something earth shattering and traumatizing, something that could make you have a reaction that isn’t necessarily good. Something that doesn’t make you feel sympathy, but asks you a question that maybe doesn’t have a good answer. Queer people are burdened irl with living in a complex society that pushes complex traumas and creates complex feelings that don’t always result in black-and-white action. And I feel like disavowing these themes in every genre and not exploring them at all as a result sometimes makes a very one dimensional shell of a character with no real statement to be made

A while ago, i had many people request that i draw dragonsick Thorin. I finished this piece shortly after but always hesitated to post it. I think its probably because im really not used to this style but ive come to terms with it anyway. Honestly dont think i wouldve found the courage to post it if it werent for the amazing folks on discord. A big thank you to @mrkida-art for helping me out with this piece!
