Ruby smiled at Anna's confirmation, glad that she shared some of the same feelings with the angel. It was nice to see that though both of them were so different, they also shared so much in common. 

Though some of their experiences were similar, certain facets of them were different. Seeing this, Ruby explained, "You see, for me it's kind of the opposite. I don't remember much about my human past. I think..." she trailed off, brow furrowing, eyes glancing off into the dark, glazing over a bit. "I think that Hell kind of erased some of that, you know? It made me what I've become, and everything's... darker. More muted. My being a demon has sort of become a shroud that blocks off my memories of what it feels like to be human." Sighing, she glanced over to Anna, trying to see if her companion understood. "Sometimes little bits of it come back to me, though, and the light shines through all the dark stuff." With a sort of sad half-smile, she added, "You're lucky, you know. Being able to remember it all."

Although there were many memories that Ruby didn't want to remember, she would suffer through those memories to remember the happy times that she had forgotten, that were blocked out by the darkness within her. She craved to feel that light again completely, not just feeble flickers of it. She wanted to feel again.

Far From Human || Ruby&Anna

Anna couldn’t help the smile that accompanied the demon’s understanding, and she nodded, confirming “Yes, feeling human. Being human. It’s strange, because even though I remember my time as an Angel— which was a long time by the way,”

She huffed a laugh, giving Ruby a brief glance before continuing, 

“My time as a human is sometimes far more clear. It’s like I’ve been thinking in black and white and 2-D images my whole existence, but as a human it was techno color and 3-D and it makes the memories so much more substantial than the others, right?”

She lifted a hand to tuck a stray tress of hair behind her ear, her naturally bright hair nearly crimson after her realization, as if opening a secret door that had been hiding how alien she was. Compared to Ruby, who was all blacks and grays and browns and shift and blend and dark, Anna’s vibrancy was nearly comical. 

And to think that such different people — for that’s what they were, people— could get along so easily, could have so much in common? With Anael’s Fall and Ruby’s Rise they were the first Angel and Demon to ever be on the same field and on the same team.

Far From Human || Ruby&Anna

Ruby's brow furrowed at Anna's words, focused, trying to interpret the complex emotions the angel was expressing. "You mean, like, wanting to feel human?" she asked, trying to clarify things for herself.

Ruby could only get fleeting glimpses of her memories from when she was a human, but most of those memories were ones that she wanted to forget, anyways. Feeling human, however, was something that she remembered. And she missed that. She craved that feeling, the feeling of living.

On her "adventures" with the Winchesters, she sometimes felt like she did back then. There were moments when her humanity would return to her, though most of these moments were small and simple. However brief these were, though, they were welcome, and the more she felt them, the more the demon wanted them.

Ruby recalled a few of these moments as the two women walked down the sidewalk together, heading for the motel that Ruby called home. She nodded, brushing a dark strand of hair behind her ear. "If that's what you're talking about, I definitely feel ya, sister."

Yeah, I guess you could say that. I've never been one for sticking to the books, anyways. I like to go against the current, surprise people, you know? People don't expect a good demon, do they? That's where the fun is. Doing the unexpected.

Well, maybe if you weren’t so evil people wouldn’t always want you dead. I guess that’s the point, with this whole “Helping humans and Angels” thing, huh? Trying to balance out your karma?

I still can’t believe that you’re so… good. It’s nice of you, to be there for this Sam person. 

Don’t worry, I’ll stay out of your way. Grace to find, memories to make. No point in surviving if I’m not going to live while I’m at it.

I'm holing up at a motel across town from where the Winchesters are staying. I think Dean'd have a fit if I stayed any closer.

And really, I'm just tagging along with where Sam goes. He kind of...needs me.

Well, I’ve only been here for about twenty minutes, so I can’t really say. Where are we staying? Since you’re the one who brought me here, I assume that you have everything worked out.

Unfortunately, I don’t think any of the other Angels are going to be very helpful. No offense, but the rest of the angels are assholes.

My parents are dead and my hometown is infested with Demons. And, no offense Ruby, but the rest of the Demons are evil bastards. 

  Not all of the Angels are assholes, anyway. I remember some good ones.

No. I was falling so fast, I couldn’t see where it landed, and I don’t even know where to start. None of the Angels have said anything about it, either.

No, not that I know of. It’s been like this for a while, we were just checking to see if it was still there or had gotten worse since I’ve had recurring UTIs recently. Yeah, I’m ok, my urethra’s just pissed because of the FUCKING CATHETER UGH THAT SUCKED BALLS
