"This is my creed: For man the vast marvel is to be alive. For man as for flower and beast and bird the supreme triumph is to be most vividly, perfectly alive. Whatever the unborn and the dead may know they cannot know the beauty, the marvel of being alive in the flesh. The dead may look after the afterward. But the magnificent here and now of life in the flesh is ours alone, and ours only for a time. We ought to dance with rapture that we should be alive and in the flesh and part of the living incarnate cosmos." — D.H. Lawrence

Captivating photo of a 94yo tattoo artist who lives deep within the depths of the Philippines. Her name is Fang (Whang)-Od. Those tattoos are traditional Filipino tribal designs, an art form dating back to the pre-Spanish occupation.
For more info about her and these type of tattoos, read more here.

From our last week of life drawing.
The model was cleverly distorted by a large geometric projection over her body that we had the opportunity to include if we wanted.
I sort of enjoyed trying to ignore it and draw through the shapes, but allowing a slice of their influence to cut through and obscure the body in my images when I wanted - like some sort of optical illusion.

Learn to put on your bracelets and zip up your dresses by yourself. There will be times when you will be alone. Get on a long plane ride. Look out the window. Understand the immensity of our world. Understand your insignificance. Understand your absolute importance. Press the send button. If you don’t say it now, you never will. Do not sneer at happiness or roll your eyes at sadness. Be aware that apathy is not healthy. You are more than the amount of people who want to have sex with you. That pit in your stomach when he doesn’t text you back, it shouldn’t be there. No one should be able to control you like that. Shopping is cathartic. Buy the shoes and deal with one-ply toilet paper for a while. It will get better, but it will never be perfect. Learn to live through the small moments of happiness. When they disappear, remember they will resurface. I promise that cookie will not change anything (except that it will make you smile). Please, please, take care of yourself. You are everything to somebody. You are everything to your self. That alone is enough.

You’re not a bad person for the ways you tried to kill your sadness.
I really needed to hear that right now. (via sassyfag)

5-Year-Old With Autism Paints Stunning Masterpieces
utism is a poorly-understood neurological disorder that can impair an individual’s ability to engage in various social interactions. But little 5-year-old Iris Grace in the UK is an excellent example of the unexpected gifts that autism can also grant – her exceptional focus and attention to detail have helped her create incredibly beautiful paintings that many of her fans (and buyers) have likened to Monet’s works.
Little Iris is slowly learning to speak, whereas most children have already begun to speak at least a few words by age 2. Along with speech therapy, her parents gradually introduced her to painting, which is when they discovered her amazing talent.
“We have been encouraging Iris to paint to help with speech therapy, joint attention and turn taking,” her mother, Arabella Carter-Johnson, explains on her website. “Then we realised that she is actually really talented and has an incredible concentration span of around 2 hours each time she paints. Her autism has created a style of painting which I have never seen in a child of her age, she has an understanding of colours and how they interact with each other.

“Oh, Harry, don’t you see?” Hermione breathed. “If she could have done one thing to make absolutely sure that every single person in this school will read your interview, it was banning it!”  - ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’, Pg. 513

I don't wanna lose you now; I'm looking right at the other half of me. This vacancy that sat in my heart is a space that now you hold. ... It's like you're my mirror.
