He claps once again, in wonder over Elsa’s skill at snow modeling. The face she shows at that tells him that she isn’t used to doing so. Still an apprentice, he gets it.
Oh well, this small amount of available power might be just perfect for her to train before she unlocks more of it. “Excellent! You’re sure good at it, ihihi.” He stands up and takes a closer look at her snow crocus.
Tumblr media
“A very symmetrical flower, huh. Perhaps starting with simmetrical shapes might be a good way to progress. How about this? I’ll give you some homework. Next time we see each work, I expect you to be able of making at least 5 different shapes from the standard sphere with this amount of snow. Geometrical volumes, animals, plants, whatever it is. When would you like to see me again?”
Creating was important, as it was a way to control her manipulation so it never got out of hand. Destroying was was something she’d never done. Before, it would melt on its own or simply be gone the next day. That was back when her magic was fun, and something she never saw as destructive. Now that she knew the danger, she’d have to learn to vanish it sometime soon as well.
Tumblr media
“You seem to have a lot of faith in me, and I appreciate it greatly.” She vowed to try at least. In the privacy of her office or bedroom would be best. She would make sure Brann was there. His flaming mane always calmed her nerves.
“Same time next week?” She offered. She was really going by his schedule. Something she knew about messy people was that they were usually always busy, otherwise cleaning would be their first priority.

When the afternoon tea rush made the cafe busy, Else spent her time in her office. After all, someone had to check inventory and make cookies. No one was going to ask to eat with her anyways.
The Royal Tea was supposed to be a place where someone could experience having fine tea with a real queen, but it seemed most people perfected eating with the hosts and hostesses who pretended to be royal, rather than her. She didn’t really mind it too much. Sitting across from a stranger and trying not to freeze her cup was taxing.
“Lady Elsa?”
She looked up to see one of the hostesses in the doorway. Expecting an order for some out of stock item, nothing prepared her for this.
“There’s a girl here who says she’s a real princess. She wants to eat with the queen.”
“What?” Elsa was surprised. Wouldn’t she rather eat with one of the hosts who was always flirting and giving out free tea?
“Your presence is requested, Your Highness.” She repeated.
“Alright.” Elsa nodded. “Seat her at my usual table. I’ll be out in a moment.”
Elsa took off her apron and wiped her floury hands off on a towel before reaching for her gloves. She then quickly tied her hair back in a bun before going out into the dining room.
The girl was seated at Elsa’s preferred table by the window. Elsa could only see her from behind, but she was achingly familiar. That red hair, that royal-yet-slouchy posture.
“...Anna?” Elsa put her hands behind her back and approached the table.”Is that you?”

She was jumpy. Jumpy at being snuck up upon and tried her best to bring up her guard. But Shalem simply stood there. Her form was awful, quite clearly the kind of capability of an amateur. He could disarm her with ease.
But there would be no need for that. This was but a simple place to train and refine one’s skills. And though he understood that Elsa was unlikely anywhere near as trained as he was, at least she seemed to have the enthusiasm to learn.
Tumblr media
“Well the martial arts are a skill that you shouldn’t take lightly.  You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself though, your majesty. People take years to hone and master the skill of their choice, putting sweat, tears, and perhaps even a little bit of blood into it in the process. It’s a commitment that you should be quite serious in undertaking, even if you don’t engage it in every day.”
“I am serious.” She nodded. She wanted to be able to open the gates again. To go outside without any of the guards having to be with her the whole time. Besides, Arendelle needed its first queen capable of wielding a sword. Didn’t Corona have one?
As serious as she was, she was never going to get anywhere with it if she was constantly caught up in the smaller details that didn’t matter, such as her outfit. Color didn’t matter, but it was at least some good judgement that had her wearing gloves.
“It’s just...I’m ambidextrous, but favor my left hand, so should I wield with my left hand?” She held the sword in her left hand before switching. “Or try and strengthen my right?” Her grip was wrong on both accounts.

Yup, just as expected. With the scientists’ capping, the chances of Elsa’s magic reaching an amount of snow mass she couldn’t control was very slim. Still, she did manage to keep things under her design up until the end. That deserved some praise in Battler’s book.
Tumblr media
Thus, expectance or not, he did give her some applause. “Hey, that was cool! You already have the basics in line, at least.” He highlights. “Now, the next step is trying to abstract it. Can you turn that same amount of snow in a defined figure, like a bird or a flower?”
Her first thought was that he was expecting way too much of her. After all, she’d never done anything like that. Before, she always just made the snow, and then she and Anna would make whatever they wanted out of that, manually. Magically would be different.
“I can try.” She said to him over her shoulder. Well, what was she supposed to do with this now? She just held up her other empty palm and focused.
The snow was taking its usual round form, but she focused on something else. A shape she’d drawn dozens of times in cookie icing or latte art. The crocus was the national symbol of Arendelle, and its petals were a nice symmetric shape.
Tumblr media
“Oh...look!” It was taking shape perfectly, just like she always drew it.

A dojo.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t exactly the kind of place Shalem really thought he’d walk into one day. But at the same time, there was more to his repitoire of skills than simply just shooting people from afar. Unfortunately it had been a long time since he remembered sparring with anyone who he considered close his skill level. But those memories were still fresh in his mind. If only because of the few broken bones that were involved as well.
Yet it seemed that though there were a few people around sparring, one person stood out. That queen with the tea shop in this city. And she seemed to be without anyone to spar with. Which was enough for the assassin to put two and two together.
“Ahem,” The assassin hoped he got Elsa’s attention. “You look like you could use a sparring partner, Queen Elsa.”
She jumped, nearly dropping her phone. Too late, she lifted her sword and guarded her blind spot. She sighed in relief when she saw who it was. Just that nice dapper man. Good thing he wasn’t anyone dangerous, or he could have killed her already.
“I could.” She nodded. She’d been shopping for the perfect training outfit, and though her warm-up suit matched her eyes perfectly, it was only good if the person wearing it trained properly.
“I never realized what the guards back home must go through. Wielding one of these that’s real metal must really take strength. You know, I’ve watched the guards patrol and fight before, but I was never really studying their form like I should. My sister watched them a lot too, but I believe that was for a different reason.” She chuckled.

“Relax, you can just call me Battler!” He smiles, waving a hand in front of her. He honestly only cares about formalities with people he isn’t very close to or who seem to enjoy when they’re called by honorifics. Otherwise he’s as formal as a wild horse.
Tumblr media
“And I believe I’d be able to defend myself against whatever forst you produce, don’t worry.” Elsa is likely not as powerful as she usually is in Hive City, there’s that. And Battler has enough magic to cast a magical barrier to protect himself. Worst case scenario, he can also heal himself from any possible frostbite on his body.
“Well, alright.” She stood up, she glanced around, trying to make sure there was nothing that could get too messed up. Really, the worst that could happen was these books and papers got blown around in cold wind. She carefully took off her gloves and with careful breath held out her palm.
Starting small and growing, was a glittering magic snowball in the center of her palm. It could only grow to the size of a baseball before the magic faded, leaving a plain ball of snow in her hand. She gently pressed her fingers around it. The cold didn’t bother her.
Over her shoulder, she looked at him expectantly. She wasn’t expecting applause or anything.

Some things couldn’t be learned from books, which is why Elsa was very pleased when she found out the city had a dojo. She didn’t have guards here, and she ever wanted to use her magic for defense. That’s why she wanted to sword fight.
There were a few other people sparring around, but seeing as she was new, no one was paying her much mind. She copied their stances and grip. She thought she was getting the hang of it when she paused to check one of her articles on sword fighting on her phone.
She stood, wooden sword tucked under arm as she scrolled on her phone. She had no idea she was leaving herself so open to attack.

Sorry, Elsa, no such luck with that. Do you really think that Battler would have left this room get to this state, were he able to reverse it easily with quick magic? It’ll take a while longer until that power is back to his hands, unfortunately…
Tumblr media
He cleans another chair and improvises himself a place to sit, then crosses his fingers in a pensive pose. “Anyway, back to our main discussion. Is there something else you’d like to divulge to me or ask, Elsa-san?”
“Well...Sensei...” Her grasp on non-Nordic languages was rusty, but she did want to show him the utmost respect, considering all the was doing for her. Just because he was a tad eccentric didn’t mean she didn’t think he knew what he was talking about.
Tumblr media
“I think what would make the most sense is more me to show you my powers, but I have to know that you’d be safe if I took my gloves off.” He had to have some sort of defensive magic, right? Or he could just stand behind her. She’d learned a few breathing and meditation techniques that helped when she needed to take her gloves off at home.
Hopefully that would be enough.

“Ihihi! I guess you could say that. I prefer teleporting or flying even, for you see…” Suddenly, he looks away from her and a dramatic shadow covers his face. “The horrors those vehicles can bring you are unimaginable…”
At last, they arrive at his office. It doesn’t look particularly ‘magical’, as you’d expect from a department head for such a division. Rather, it feels more like a college student’s messy room, with the piles of papers and books in it. Battler invites Elsa to take a seat in it.
Tumblr media
She’d never even thought of that. Yes, sharp metal at high speeds probably would not end well if there was a crash. It was bad enough if your carriage got dislodged from your horse on a bumpy road. Was this making her afraid to ever get in a car? No, not afraid...it was actually using good judgement.
“Wow...”
She walked in and kept her arms tucked in, taking in the mess. Oh dear. There was a clear space with only minimal books. She sat on the edge of her seat and waiting for some blast of magic that would put everything in its place.
