he hates awkward.

he tries to avoid it as often as he can, though he finds that in certain situations ( read: this one ) it isn’t as escapable as he’s comfortable with. eating in silence with someone else has never been comfortable for him, and the fact that it’s xiao of all people has him seconds away from experiencing a goddamn hernia. jae wants to be civil about things because, for the most part, he’s a civil guy ! but staring down at the other slurping down his pasta like he doesn’t know how he’d broken his brother’s heart, something stirs inside jae that’s far from cordial. 

there are three things he wants to say.

“no matter how quiet you are, it doesn’t escape the fact that you’re now ‘n here, xiao.” he begins coldly, hand gripping his glass of water tighter than before. “and it doesn’t escape the fact that i see ya for what y’really are.” a sip of water, a hand combing through golden hair, before eyes bore into the other ‘97 liner’s once more. “no one else may see it, but i can, and i’ll be damned if i’m just goin’ to sit pretty with the knowledge that you ? you hurt people.” one. “you’re selfish, xiao.” two. 

“and you’e a coward.” three.

tall figure moves to stand, and before the rapper leaves he drops a handful of clean cut won on the table, leaning over to the other with a cold, smug smirk. “tell ‘em to keep the change.”

he mentions it first around a mouthful of pan fried pork buns, the tv humming softly in front of them left neglected. ordinary, stress-free nights at the dorm are spent like this, usually: takeaway food and whatever variety shows are on propped up on the dorm living room’s communal table, though it’s usually masked by chatter ( in their case, there’s the occasional bicker, quick-witted retort or two ). but tonight they’ve got the dorm to themselves, the other boys off who knows where, leaving more room for banter between he and hajoon ( as if they needed any more room for it, really ). and while the dinner had started out with just that — smart quips and brusque witticisms and all — things had fallen into a low hum, both idols now preoccupied with the food, glorious food laid out in front of them.

he says it first like this: “you know, i think you might be one of my best friends.”

he almost chokes on his own spit, then and there, because tough guy jae seo doesn’t do feelings ( this isn’t entirely true; anyone who knows him and his family can prove otherwise, but he’s always had different rules for them, anyway ). he tries to process his spur of the moment words but comes up short, and while he now tries to hide his face behind his cup of iced tea there’s no denying his rose flushed ears, lighting up like twin bulbs.

“i mean.” jae clears his throat, trying to salvage himself from embarrassment, god forbid. “i think you could be one of my best friends if you weren’t so damn wrong about your opinions all the time.” confidence begins to rebuild itself inside him, and now jae has the courage to even look up with a broad smirk.

things are fine as they are, he thinks; hajoon already knows how much he means to him anyway.

“so, again, about pineapples on pizza …”

there’s a certain amount of privacy he no longer gets to enjoy, being an idol; main streets only equal sightings, and sightings equal cameras shoved up into features with urgency so unnecessary jae has half a mind to deck them where they stand ( he would never actually do it, of course; the thought has only crossed his mind once or ten times ). while he enjoys the attention, the recognition, more than anything, really, jae likes to look back on days when he could cross the street without a second thought, a hasty look back. but now wavy locks have grown all too familiar with black caps, and his mouth knows the taste of face masks more than he’d like to admit — it’s a small price to pay, he finds, but some occasions make it seem even costlier.

he’s grateful for the nearby italian restaurant, well hidden and well kept on a street he can pass by inconspicuously. jae’d grown up on various cuisines, with his mother well versed enough to cook any type of food under the sun ( tianmin seo is superwoman, after all ), but he’d always been inclined towards pasta and pizza — only the best italy had to offer. coming to korea, he and his brother had wasted no time in looking for an ideal spot, the best location for his favorite cuisine, which had led him to the very same spot he stood now: entering through familiar doors with a crooked smile lacing smug features, the air of a ‘ celebrity ‘ ( god knows how much he hates that word ) looking to satisfy his cravings. 

a waiter he’s come to know during his frequent visits gestures him over to a table with a broad smile; as the other turns his back to him eyebrows knit together as jae thinks he catches a bit of what he says — something about ‘ expecting company ‘, despite him only wanting takeout — but resolves not to think much of it; perhaps he was talking to himself, is what he reasons. but it’s a reason that soon fades, along with his smile, when the waiter now motions towards an empty table where he’d be dining by himself — except it isn’t empty, and it isn’t alone.

the familiar sight of the other boy leaves something unpleasant churning in the rapper’s stomach, and in a flash gaze grows cold. “excuse me ..“ he begins placidly, turning towards the server who had brought him to the table — except he’d seemingly evaporated, taking any opportunity of a different table with him. an english cuss leaves jae’s lips, murmured under his breath darkly as his eyes begin to size up the other again with a view of nonchalance and almost explicit distaste.

“so.” jae begins, hands digging into the wood of the back of his chair as he leans over the table. “y’liked this place, did ya.”

hey all !! is here; while im workin on replies n starters on both lucas n myungok ( sorry i suck .. lol .... ) i bring u my THIRD character, my rapper baby jae seo ( aka main rap of static , roux’s baby brother , and all around peter parker but Lamer ) !! his profile may be found HERE, and his bio HERE ; i have a few plot ideas that’ll be under the cut of this post , but if u had any storylines youd like to explore w him give this a LIKE n ill slide into ur dms or ur discords ( fuck u cube.#3013 ) :] i cant wait to be writing with u all even more !! luh luh kiss kiss

so just so you know a lil bit about jae; he’s v much family oriented, cares a lot about his mom and his sisters and loves american hip hop music prolly more than he loves himself ! he seems kinda smartass-y and tht comes off as cocky sometimes but he means well, nd underneath that tough guy exterior hes just . a kid who never grew up tbh ?! hides a lot of insecurity behind his talent which is undeniable, by the way, and he hates dancing and girly groups n anything that has to do with the more ‘ manufactured, ‘ more fake typ’a music in d industry. seems like the type to sleep around but honestly has probably only slept w like one person in his life SKSKSKSKSK. believes hes gna marry ariana grande someday. yeahhh.

for plots: 

i’d like to see a childhood/online friend he’d had growing up ? someone who met him when he moved to korea , or someone who knew him thru an online platform when he still lived in manhattan . 

someone he’d been close with pre-debut ! their relationship can be discussed now

jae’s been labeled as a new york heartthrob a lot ; mb ur muse is someone whos been shipped w jae before n either u reaaaally hate each other or ur rly just close friends !?

people who r turned off by his smart alecky comments n kinda just roll their eyes at him or brush him off
