So it's come my attention that there are a lot of students, particularly in humanities and social sciences disciplines, who need to hear this, so here goes:

Do the readings.

Oh my God, just do the readings. I promise, it gets easier once you get into the habit of it.

What makes a good student? Doing the readings. Literally just doing the readings is enough to make you a good student.

Every time I thank my wife for taking such good care of me she looks baffled, like "obviously I'm going to take care of you what the fuck else would I do?"

So I try to explain to her that I have lots of friends who have spouses (especially women who have husbands 🤔) who could never possibly count on 1/10th of the care and support that she gives me from their own spouses, so even if she doesn't feel like it's anything special or a big deal, I know it is. ❤️

the thing about the mountain goats is that, on paper, it's the whiniest-sounding catholic in america playing Just An E Chord saying shit like "i smoked a pack of spirits in florida / i thought about the book of galatians / why were you so mean to me last october" but then you listen to it and you're like what the fuck...... why WERE you so mean to me last october. and then you need like 3-5 business days to recover

But I am perpetually hovering three inches above the strong subconscious belief that everyone knows what they're doing at all times except me, so if you change your normal patterns and I notice, then I will assume it is an intentional choice with a thought-out plan behind it and I will avoid interfering

And if I don't notice, because I won't, because why would I, because not much bothers me and if you don't say anything to indicate you are bothered then how would I KNOW
