[Ruby looked at her a little sadly. She was fairly certain that Larissa couldn’t push her away. She’d already accepted that she was in it with this girl.]
I understand. I almost did the same thing.
[She paused, debating whether or not she should say it. The words came out of her mouth before she could think too much.]
I lost my brother. When they took us away, he got adopted right off the bat. I didn’t. They don’t let me see him anymore. After that, I said no more attachments. No more risking doing stupid shit and then losing someone for him. But then you came along. I get it, trust me. But even if you’re going to do something stupid eventually, you have to trust that the other person likes you enough to work through it. You know what I mean?
[ Larissa smiled softly when Ruby didn’t pull away from her hand–it was comforting in a way. As they continued to walk, Larissa found herself getting closer and closer to the girl as she spoke. ]
I didn’t mean to worry you, and I’m sorry. I just–I’ve been in this mood lately and I didn’t want to do anything that would cause me to lose you, so I was playing it safe and staying away. But now that I’m with you again, I realize how much of a fucking idiot I was to even stay away from you in the first place, because we haven’t even been together for five minutes and I’m already the happiest I’ve been in weeks..

[Ruby didn’t flinch away from the hand hold, in fact, she liked it. It was warm and reassuring, and she wouldn’t be opposed to holding her hand all the time.]
Yeah, I mean.. I’ve been worried, but I figured you just needed your space.
[ Larissa knew Ruby well enough by now to tell that she was worried, and she had every right to be. Larissa knew that Ruby cared about her–all the more reason why she felt the need to explain herself to her. She nodded softly when Ruby told her to hang for a second. ]
Yeah, sure.
[ As Larissa waited for Ruby to come back out, she sighed and lent against the porch. Once she made her way back out, Larissa smiled softly and looked up at the girl. Without even thinking , she took Ruby’s hand in her own and started to walk down the sidewalk. ]
I figured you deserved an explanation as to why I’ve been so um–distant lately I guess?

[Ruby was worried, definitely, but she tried to keep a neutral face when she nodded.]
Yeah, of course. Just give me a second.
[She stepped inside, grabbing her jacket off the hook. She grabbed the food and drink as she slipped her jacket on, putting it away and turning off the TV. Sketching a quick note to her foster family, she headed back to the door.]
Alright, lead the way.
[ Larissa knew that Ruby was probably either already asleep or busy with better things, but she had to at least try and see her. She didn’t know what was causing this funk that she was in, but she as hoping that Ruby could help her figure it out. As she heard the door open, Larissa sighed and flicked away her cigarette since it was now out. Looking at the girl in front of her, Larissa couldn’t help but feel a little more comfortable already. ]
Can we uh–go for a walk? I need to talk to you.

[It was lucky that Ruby was near the door at the time, otherwise she wouldn’t have heard it. Her nights consisted of playing videogames - this week Tomb Raider was her obsession - in the living room and eating chips and pop. She couldn’t go out, so she had to find ways to amuse herself. She paused the game when she heard the knock and walked over to the door. She was met with smoke, and she was surprised to see it was Larissa behind it. Ruby only smoked sometimes, and she’d never seen Larissa smoke, so immediately she was concerned.]
Hey. What are you doing here?
[ Larissa sighed as she walked up the steps of Ruby’s house. She knew she probably shouldn’t be here–especially this late at night, but she didn’t care. She needed comfort and right now Ruby was the only one who could give it to her. She sighed and knocked softly on the door and then leaned against the side of the house. While she waited, Larissa pulled a pack of cigarettes from her pocket and lit one–placing it between her lips, inhaling and then letting the smoke roll off her tongue. Larissa didn’t usually smoke, but with all of the stress she had been under lately, it was a habit she had picked up again. ]

Aubrey: ummm we need to talk about allusions in the great gatsby so
Aubrey: there's a lot of biblical allusions
Aubrey: when he first meets nick his arms are outspread, sort of like crucifixion. a lot of quotes are similar to bible quotes, especially in the description of gatsby. he's never at his parties, this is kind of related to mass. he's the host and everyone believes he's there but nobody ever sees him..... kind of like a god-like presence
Aubrey: idk there's a lot of shit google it gurl
Ruby: you're my hero
Ruby: should i read the book

Uh, sorry..

You okay?
If you’re just going to stand there like a creeper then you might as well come inside and sit down. I can feel you hovering and it’s bothering me. [ sighs and twirls her hair around her fingers as she stares into the emptiness of her room—without looking over her shoulder even once to see who was behind her ]
