The Second Son's Tale
by alyoraShadow
There was a terrible irony in his story, for I feared the brother who had always wanted the land and authority for himself, who had always hated being second best, had found, once he was given the unexpected, the wonderful gift of Harrowfield for his own, that what he really wanted was something else entirely. For it was his fate always to desire that which he could not have.
Or: Simon's story, after Daughter of the Forest.

Time Loops of Sevenwaters
by TheImaginatrix
"The Admins must have looked very hard to find you."
Of all the Sevenwaters cast, Conri was the only one suitable to Anchor their Branch of Yggdrasil. He gets used to time repeating endlessly after a while, but once the Fusions start, he realises this is a lot bigger than just him, or even just his world. Being responsible for your world continuing to exist is both easier and harder than it sounds.
Part of the Infinite Loops Project hosted mainly on the Spacebattles forum.

Hi Janaina! I hope you're doing well! One of my favorites art made by you it's the one of the Daughter of the Forest, i'ts soooo pretty! Do you think you could draw Finbar? He's my favorite character and means a lot to me! May all the good thinks come to you!
Thank you! I’m glad you like the Daughter of the Forest painting!
I don’t usually draw men, I’m not very confident in the result, but I hope you enjoy this Finbar drawing :) (and it’s been a long time since I read this book so I don’t remember his appearance very well)

Just One Word Book Photo Challenge (January) Day 15: Couples
Most of my favourite couples can be found in a Juliet Marillier book. Sorcha & Red. Liadan & Bran. Fainne & Darragh. Clodagh & Cathal. Eyvind & Nessa. Bridei & Tuala. Caitrin & Anluan. Faolan & Eile. If you love a sweeping romance and amazing writing, I can’t recommend these enough!
“… It matters not if you are here, or there, for I see you before me every moment… You are the blood in my veins, and the beating of my heart.” ❤️

The last couple days I’ve been completely preoccupied with reading “Daughter of the Forest” by Juliet Marillier. It proved one of the most enticing, thrilling, heart wrenching and beautifully written books I’ve ever read. I cried myself to sleep after finishing it last night, mostly because how the book portrayed love, in the most overwhelming way, and i knew I had to draw the main couple. ✨
Here’s 2 hours of progress so far, and I really like it tbh, maybe not perfect, but it seems nothing is these days, and just drawing is a victory for me. 😊 I really recommend the book, especially if you love folklore and Irish Mythology as well as magic, tragedy and sorrow, but most of all love, in all forms. Just read it! 😉❤️

Serenity Press publishing a fairy tale-style collection by Juliet Marillier in 2020
Tumblr media
More exciting news - we've had this under our hats for a while. In 2020, we'll be publishing a fairy tale-style collection by Juliet Marillier Official Fan Page, including reworkings of existing tales and original tales.
Like Vasilisa the Wise, this collection will be aimed at the 12+, YA market (and fans of fairy tales and folklore).

“He would have told her - he would have said, it matters not if you are here or there, for I see you before me every moment. I see you in the light of the water, in the swaying of the young trees in the spring wind. I see you in the shadows of the great oaks, I hear your voice in the cry of the owl at night. You are the blood in my veins, and the beating of my heart. You are my first waking thought, and my last sigh before sleeping. You are - you are bone of my bone, and breath of my breath.”  ― Juliet Marillier, Daughter of the Forest

The Otherworld
by Noral_Covic
Dechtire of Ulaid was born the daughter of the High King of Teamhair in the land of Eire, but her father was murdered, and his throne usurped. Her mother fled with her three children, and won a throne for her son Conchubhar in the province of Ulaid through marriage and cunning. Dechtire however, never wanted to be a queen, or to have a throne, and married for love. Nonetheless, one her wedding day a twist of fate left Dechtire fleeing Ulaid in the company of a man who was definately not her husband.
He, Lugh, the Longhand, was the last Lord and King of the Sidhe. To Dechtire, he was an outlaw, simply a leader of a cowardly raiding party. Irish myth would have it that a he turned her and her ladies in waiting into birds, and that they flew, but the truth is everyone at the wedding was drunk, and no one knew Dechtire and the other girls were even missing until well after midnight. Dechtire, whose story lasted a year and a day, is reduced to a few mere lines in another man's epic. This is the story of a woman who is only remembered for being the mother of Ireland's greatest hero, but was one of those rare beings who walked between worlds as they were fading.

#FolkloreThursday: The Six Swans
“We can take off our swan skins for only a quarter of an hour every evening and assume our human form during this time. Then it’s all over. If you want to rescue us, you must sew six little shirts made out of asters, but during this time you’re not allowed to speak or laugh. Otherwise all your work will be for naught.”

Sorcha and Red from Juliet Marillier’s Daughter of the Forest.  It’s a retelling of the Six Swans fairytale, and boy, is it intense.
