In one of his love letters, Dylan scribbles out “leave a note” so he can say “please” first.

This is what the note actually says;

“If you dont know who I am still then I apparently haven't been noticeable enough.... please dont take offense or worry about this note... if you do know who I am, or if you want to anyway, please leave me a note in my locker saying whatever you want whether that be telling me to fuck off or else youll call the cops, or if you want to say whatever, just please do me that favor... if you tell me to leave you alone, I will.

A few things of note.

- The idea of forcing a girl to feel things for him repulsed him. He wanted her to love him authentically.

- I am of the opinion that the girl he crushes on after the van arrest and the one he makes mention of in this note are the same person. This is solidified by the fact that that girl did not know him and he talks about “him not noticing him” in this note and “not knowing who he is”

They didn’t know each other so I think he got her number from the phone book.

- The way he sees himself is abundantly clear in the notes he writes. He sees himself as some unappealing, scary monster. He always assumes the girl will see him as some psycho or that she’s going to call the cops on him. Very self deprecating.
