Ryan Adams details Big Colors, his first of three new albums
After a year of relentless teasing on socials, Ryan Adams finally confirmed on Monday night that he's back with not one, not two, but three new albums for 2019.
Now, courtesy of The Washington Post's Power Up newsletter, we have details surrounding his first record, Big Colors, which is due out April 19th.
Produced by Adams, Beatriz Artola, and Don Was, the 15-track LP finds Adams tapping into “the deepest reaches of the Creative Ether.” Eh, we'll let Was do the talking, who tells the Post:
“I wish everyone could witness the awe-inspiring sight of Ryan Adams recording in the studio . . . the endless flow of brilliant ideas is mind blowing and he's clearly tapped into the deepest reaches of the Creative Ether. His forthcoming album(s) elevate his art form to a whole new stratosphere and it's an honor and a thrill for all of us at Blue Note Records to work with him. Oh yeah . . . one other thing: he's the most underrated guitarist in rock n roll.”
As previously hinted, the next album up is Wednesdays, though details surrounding that release have yet to be divulged, in addition to the title of the third and final record.
Consult the tracklist below. Here's hoping The Miami Herald or The New York Times has the exclusive on the single. Loving this roll out.

Shinedown review – rock showmen ride towards arena stardom
O2 Academy, Newcastle With their positive affirmations, pop sensibilities and hair-metal heaviness, the Tennessee group unites rock fans young and old
'We've played to five people and 500,000 people,” Shinedown's vocalist Brent Smith yells, over a boom-boom-whack drum beat reminiscent of Queen's We Will Rock You. “But tonight it's all about you. Newcastle, let's create some magic.” On his cue, almost every phone in the building is held aloft, every other arm is waving – as are drummer Barry Kerch's sticks. When the lasers kick in, Smith's “magic” spectacle is complete.

Ace Frehley will only perform on KISS' farewell tour if he can “take back” his Spaceman character
Any fans wanting to see Ace Frehley take part in KISS' upcoming farewell tour need to hope that his former bandmates will allow him to 'take back' his iconic 'Spaceman' character.
Iconic rockers KISS recently announced to the world they're gearing up to embark on their final world tour and wave goodbye to their fans for the last time.
Of course, many fans have been wondering what this final tour will include. Some, including Ace Frehley seem to be hoping it will be reminiscent of the band's tour in the mid-'90s, which saw the original KISS lineup reunite for a world tour.
While Ace Frehley recently joked he would take part in the farewell tour “for the right price”, the band's original guitarist has now stipulated he'd have to completely take over from Tommy Thayer if he was to appear.
youtube
Talking to Vintage Rock recently, Frehley spoke out in regards to his potential role in the upcoming tour.
“Getting involved with KISS on the road would take precedence over what I'm doing with my band. But the only way I would seriously consider it is if I took back my make-up and costume and my character - which I designed,” he explained.
“Tommy Thayer is not a bad guitar player, but he basically just mimics everything I wrote, and tries to imitate my persona. He's been doing it for 15 years. But the reality is I'm the original guy. And nobody can really copy the way I play guitar.”
Of course, while Ace Frehley did indeed invent his 'Spaceman'/'Space Ace' stage persona and makeup design, current guitarist Tommy Thayer has been occupying that role since 2002. However, Frehley noted that he's not exactly sure about the legality of Thayer's usage.
“My attorney told me that I licensed it to them,” he explained. “That's all I can say. They may deny it, but he told me, 'You didn't sell it to them.' But what are the ins and outs of the licensing deal, I'm not 100% sure of. I think I licensed it to them for perpetuity…does that mean forever, or something?”
youtube
Ace Frehley also expressed his desire for original drummer Peter Criss to take part in the farewell tour (even though Eric Singer has occupied his 'Catman' makeup design since 2004).
“I think it would be great if Peter was involved,” Frehley explained. “Obviously, at this point in his life, he wouldn't be able to do a two-hour show. But I can see if we worked out a situation where Peter came out at the end and did three or four songs - sang 'Beth', did 'Black Diamond', and a couple of others, I think that would be fun.”
As we've noted before though, there definitely doesn't appear to be any bad blood between the members, with Frehley joining Gene Simmons on his recent tour to Australia. So at this stage, it seems like we might just need to sit back and wait and see if KISS' farewell tour will be doubling as a reunion tour as well.

Sacha Baron Cohen attempts to coax murder confession from O.J. Simpson: Watch
Sacha Baron Cohen's controversial, intermittently brilliant Who Is America? wrapped up its first (and likely only) season on Sunday night, and the Showtime series went out in a shocking, if ultimately underwhelming, fashion by introducing none other than athlete, actor, and alleged murderer O.J. Simpson.
The sequence came during the episode's closing credits and found Baron Cohen, as Italian fashion photographer Gio Monaldo, having a sit down with the Juice. The intent of the meeting was to try and get Simpson to admit to killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. Simpson was acquitted of the double murder in 1994, but has been grossly coy about whether or not he did it as of late. Unfortunately, Simpson didn't crack, though not for Baron Cohen's lack of trying.
Baron Cohen offered Simpson a seven-figure cash sum if he'd reveal to Monaldo's boss, a fictional Sheikh, that he actually committed the murders. While Simpson remained jovial throughout their meeting, he repeatedly insisted he “didn't do it.” As such, Baron Cohen's Monaldo needled Simpson with various jokes about how much he wants to murder his own girlfriend, jokes to which Simpson often chuckled and responded to by giving high-fives.
Per Deadline, which shared a number of behind-the-scenes details on how the stunt came together:
“This took preparation that included Baron Cohen spending hours with a former lead interrogator for the FBI, an expert in drawing out confessions. It also involved creating credible cover stories for the Sheik and Mansour, so that the lawyer who pocketed the fee and others could Google and feel they were dealing with real people. When Simpson didn't take the bait, Baron Cohen's Monaldo character had to be content with essentially calling Simpson a murderer continuously for a three minute stretch. The result is well, creepy. Said Monaldo: 'What I hate about the press is you make a tiny little slip, and that's all they remember you for. You're not the O.J. the touchdown. You're not the O.J. the movie star. You kill two silly people and suddenly, you're O.J. the murderer.'”
It's some cringeworthy stuff, especially when Monaldo brought in an Italian girlfriend who knew Simpson not for his acting or athletic career, but only for his reputation as a cold-blooded killer. Of course, that didn't stop Simpson from repeatedly mentioning how beautiful she was.

Lana Del Rey has defended her decision to perform in Israel
Lana Del Rey has defended her decision to perform in Israel, explaining that her choice to appear in the country is “not a political statement”.
No matter how you look at it, performing a concert in Israel is a rather controversial action for a musician to do. In the past, plenty of musicians have been criticised of supporting Israel's treatment of the Palestinians when they've announced that they're set to play a show in the country.
While Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is undoubtedly one of the most vocal critics of bands performing in Israel, Lorde was the subject of a rather high-profile boycott appeal back in December, when she was labelled a “bigot” after cancelling her show in Tel Aviv.
“I pride myself on being an informed young citizen,” Lorde wrote in a statement at the time. “And I have done a lot of reading and sought a lot of opinions before deciding to book a show in Tel Aviv, but I'm not proud to admit I didn't make the right call on this one.”
Now, Lana Del Rey is the latest musician to be copping heat over her decision to tour the country.
Back in 2014, Lana Del Rey cancelled her debut performance in Israel due to political upheaval in regards to Operation Protective Edge – otherwise known as the 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict. Now, with the musician being confirmed for the inaugural Meteor Festival next month, it seems that she has had a change of heart.
youtube
Taking to Twitter earlier this morning, Lana Del Rey explained to her legions of followers just why she's deciding to go through with the performance, noting that she plans to performing with “a loving energy” and “a thematic emphasis on peace”.
“I understand many of u are upset that we're going to Tel Aviv for the Meteor festival, I understand your concern I really get do,” Lana Del Rey began. “What I can tell you is I believe music is universal and should be used to bring us together.”
“We signed on to the show w the intention that it would be performed for the kids there and my plan was for it to be done w a loving energy w a thematic emphasis on peace. If you don't agree with it I get it. I see both sides.”
“We don't always agree with the politics of the places we play within or even in our own country- sometimes we don't even feel safe, depending on how far abroad but we travel- but we are musicians and we've dedicated our lives to being on the road,” she continued.

“Although I have deep sentiments over what is true or not true, right or wrong- I would like to remind you that performing in Tel Aviv is not a political statement or a commitment to the politics there just as singing here in California doesn't mean my views are in alignment w my current governments opinions or sometimes inhuman actions.”
“I'm just stating that I'm a simple singer, I'm doing my best to navigate the waters of the constant tumultuous hardships in the war-torn countries all over the world that I travel through monthly.”
“For the record I'm doing the best I can and my intentions are better than most peoples that I know.”
Following her statement, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) issued a statement asking Lana Del Rey to reconsider her decision.
.@LanaDelRey We urge you to reconsider. We doubt that you would have played in apartheid South Africa; likewise, artists refuse to play in apartheid Israel.
Please respect our nonviolent picket line, and cancel your Meteor performance.https://t.co/PeVLbnsYO3 pic.twitter.com/l4Xcl5CvC9
- PACBI (@PACBI) August 19, 2018
“We urge you to reconsider,” the PABCI wrote on Twitter. “We doubt that you would have played in apartheid South Africa; likewise, artists refuse to play in apartheid Israel.”
“When Lorde cancelled her Tel Aviv show, the Washington Post said: 'From now on, if it weren't the case already, merely scheduling a concert date in Israel will be considered a political act.'”
“In response to the call by Palestinian civil society, thousands of artists from around the world have pledged not to perform in Israel until it respects the human rights of Palestinians.”
“Please respect our nonviolent picket line, and cancel your Meteor performance.”
While many of Lana Del Rey's fans have taken to social media to share petitions and appeal to Lana Del Rey to cancel her Tel Aviv performance, the singer seems set on her decision to perform in the country.
Meteor festival kicks off in Tel Aviv in just a couple of weeks, so we'll have to wait and see if Lana Del Rey does indeed decide to follow through with her plan of performing in the country.
