black family arts (working title): a oneshot (that wasn't supposed to be a fic at all, but whatever) about all five black cousins and their relationships to ballet and music (both of which they had to learn from a young age) throughout their lives. 1.7k words.

atra magia: when in doubt, translate the title into latin! uh anyways it's a black cousins centric fic where they Actually Communicate and kick ass together. featuring quillkiller, tedromeda, wolfstar, jegulily, tragic doomed nobleflower and endgame lucissa.

i used to see the future and now i see nothing: title from cassandra by florence + the machine. canon compliant fic about how sybill was a great seer in her youth, but as she got older and all her loved ones started dying in the war, her sight started fading. the final straw is the village she grew up in being burnt down by death eaters, around the beginning of harry's fifth year— she never has a sees the future again, after that, and when umbridge kicks her out and she says "but hogwarts is my home!" she really, truly means it, because she has nowhere else to go.

i looked the future in the eyes, it's mine: title from the sofia isella song of the same name. fic where the pantheon + emmeline & sybill are all seers, with gifts that manifest in various ways (detailed in this post)

wit beyond measure is woman's greatest treasure: fic centred around emmeline, pandora and sybill. i have none of the plot planned out, i just thought the title was cool haha.

round about the cauldron go: title from macbeth. fic where regulus, pandora, lily & severus work together on a potion to cure/ ease remus's lycanthropy. lily is doing it because remus is her friend, and she's tired of seeing him suffer, sev is doing it to make it up to lily after calling her a slur and because he wants lupin to not be a danger, pandora is doing it because she has a crush on lily and likes making potions anyway, and regulus is doing it because pandora is. only 350 words so far.

ah, dream too bright to last!: title from "to one in paradise" by edgar allen poe. a canon compliant series of oneshots/twoshots, each focusing on different ships, friendships, and characters. they are all named after quotes from poe's poetry. i've only worked on one thing so far: "beguiling all my fancy into smiling" (title from "the raven" by edgar allen poe), the specific twoshot that has regulus and lily falling in love over edgar allen poe's poetry, and then the two of them deciding to woo james together. (i don't have an exact wordcount bc i wrote it on paper haha)

James was laying in bed, flat on his back with his arm flung across his face. Eyes closed, gently lulled into that gap between being awake and asleep where his limbs felt heavy and his head felt light.

Quietly, voice thick with sleep, he murmured into the room. “Would you still love me if I was a worm?”

“Don’t be ridiculous, James.” Regulus replied softly. “I’d put you in the garden, feed you to the birds.”

“That’s mean.” James smiled softly. “I’d still love you. I’d buy a tank for you and keep you forever.”

“Yes, well. You’re an idiot.”

“Your idiot.” A smile tugged at the corner of James’ lips. “How about if I was a dog? Would you keep me then?”

“Nah.” Regulus snorted softly. “I’d give you to Sirius. He’s always wanted one.”

“That’s fair. I’d be such a good dog for him.” James shifted slightly, as if to roll over onto his side, but decided against it. “You’d make a good cat. I think that’s what you’d be if you were an animal. All regal and grumpy.”

Regulus made a non-commital sound and the room filled with silence once more, the only sounds to be heard were gentle breaths and the breeze outside brushing through the trees.

James broke the silence once more with a whisper, cracked around the edges. “Would you still love me if I was a ghost?”

“Of course I would, Jamie.” Another beat of silence passed. “You still love me, don’t you? And I’m a ghost.”

James finally rolled onto his side and opened his eyes a crack to see only the empty space where Regulus should be, sheets undisturbed as if he’d never been there at all.

black family (and associated ppl) age headcanons! partially based on canon info but i don't think it's completely canon compliant.

bella, who was born when cygnus and druella were 13 (i think this is canon), is 5 years older than andy, who was born when their parents were 18. bella is in sixth year when andy is in first. 

(i think cygnus and druella would have been careful after the first accident to not get pregnant again, so they only had andy after they'd graduated, hence the kinda-large age gap.)

bella was in the same year as both rodolphus and rita

rabastan is two years younger than rodolphus

andy is a bit over one year older than narcissa, and is one year above her at hogwarts. so when bella is in seventh year, andy is in second, and cissy is in first

cissy is one year below lucius and one year above alice.

when cissy is in sixth year, sirius is in first, alice is in fifth, and andy & lucius are both in seventh (lucius being 6 years above sirius is canon). 

ik a lot of people decrease the black cousins' canon age difference so they can all go to hogwarts at the same time, but that's not how i see them idk

sirius was born sometime in early september, but not on the 1st, and regulus was born in late august two years later. so they're basically 2 years apart, age-wise, but they're only one school year apart. regulus is one of the youngest in his year group and sirius is one of the oldest.

when regulus is in first year, sirius is in second and narcissa is in seventh.

ok so i love black pandora, but i also love freakishly pale pandora. so i'm combining them!

ok so, in this headcanon, wizarding genetics work a bit different from muggle ones, in that each of the noble families have a "distinctive trait" that all its members inherit, no matter what. the blacks have grey eyes, and the weasleys have red hair, and the crouches have blue eyes. if one part of the couple swears into the others' family, the family that was sworn into's genes are dominant, and the kid will inherit that family's "trait", and may not inherit the other parent's. typically, the woman swears into the man's family, but the reverse can happen.

so, pandora flamel would inherit the flamels' "distinctive trait", which is extremely pale skin and hair, but pitch black eyes. but while her father is a snow-white flamel, her mother is black. and so even though pandora's skin and hair are pale asf, she has more afrocentric features (broad nose, wide lips, etc.) and she has super thick, curly, coarse hair that can be locked pretty easily. this is different from just albinism, btw— her eyes are dark, and she doesn't have the health problems that come with albinism. (i do love albino!pandora and xeno headcanons though, just not what i default to picturing them as.)

so uh yeah! that's one of my new appearance headcanons for pandora. idk whether i'll put it in the fic i'm currently writing, but i'll definitely use it at some point in the future!

“Boys trip,” Evan said, moving to stand beside the bed. “Happy birthday.” He waggled his too-bright wand for effect, making dots swim in Barty's vision. When Barty could see again, after threatening to snap Evan's wand, he noticed that Evan was dressed in an outfit complete with a thick winter coat and trousers, earmuffs pulled down around his neck, and snow boots.

Barty was truly at a loss for words. “If you think that I'm going to walk outside in the cold so you can get some fresh air—”

Evan's smile widened. “We are going to Hogsmeade. Fresh air is a bonus.”

Barty sucked on his teeth in frustration. “Evan,” he snapped, “I am not walking to Hogsmeade with you at” —he checked his clock— “two in the morning. Merlin’s beard, what were you thinking? Go back to bed.” It was against the rules, anyhow.

But Evan wasn't taking no for an answer. “Crouch, it is your birthday trip,” he said, accent lilting as he spoke. “Why would I take anyone but you? Besides, I can't let all my hard work go to waste. I drugged Mrs Norris—”

“You did what!?”

“—and I spent ages figuring out how to get there without getting caught. Please?”

In the morning, Barty would wonder why he nodded yes. But he did, and Evan grinned in delight, and Barty might have smiled if he wasn't so tired.

4.2k words about regulus's childhood & gender, which was supposed to be a two-paragraph post about a headcanon that happens in his fourth year

3k words about pandora's childhood, which... i didn't really have a solid wordcount for, but was meant to be of reasonable size to be one tumblr post to accompany a moodboard i made for her

...but i still have next to nothing on the fics i actually intended to be fics. so. yay!

bellatrix is the pinnacle of a black. it only takes one look at her to tell— her hair is black and curly and there is a wild hunger in her silver eyes and madness drips from every seam in her body. her name might be lestrange, but nobody forgets where she came from— and this suits her just fine. she's always been proud of her blood.

andromeda manages to shake off her roots, most of the time. her hair is transfigured to be brown and straight, and people call her mrs tonks without a second thought. but sometimes, when her hair is under a hood and ted isn't next to her, when she gets angry enough for just a bit of the madness to creep in, people see the black in her, and their fear reminds her she can never truly escape her blood.

narcissa, despite staying in the same social circles all her life, is almost always thought of as a malfoy. maybe it's her blonde hair (her tiny rebellion against the harsh training to control her metamorphagus abilities; hair reflecting one's emotions is undignified, apparently) or maybe it's because her madness is buried under layers of silk and smiles— but nobody seems to look at her and think black. she is distanced, socially, from both bellatrix's madness and andy's mud, and she tries to convince herself she's glad for it.

the "metamorphagus narcissa" headcanon isn't mine, but i have no idea where it's from and google is yielding no results. if anyone knows, pls tell me!

Hi guys!

Okay so I've gotten a lot of asks about JKR, since she's been extra terfy lately. ( @lonely-parrot @mushroom-enby and many anons) Basically asking me what I think about the marauders fandom, talking to people about it, etc.

I think that we have to acknowledge that being part of the Marauders fandom does cause some harm.

Why? Because we are, however unwillingly, talking about and giving popularity to characters created by a horribly bigoted and harmful person.

We can't just stick our heads in the sand and pretend that isn't true. Not in the days of algorithms that respond every time you search 'Sirius Black.'

However, I also think this fandom, and fandom in general, has been helpful to many queer people in ways I can't even begin to describe. For so many queer people, fanfiction and fandom is where you begin to explore those feelings you think are 'weird' or 'different,' and the people you meet through fandom are the first people you meet like you. The way characters are depicted in fanfiction can be the first time you see a character that you truly relate to, and I know that I am not exaggerating when I say I owe my life to fanfic writers, because I used it as a coping mechanism as a teen when I had nobody to talk to at all.

I think that we just have to be conscious of consuming fandom, especially Harry Potter fandom, ethically. And I have to say that I am NOT perfect at this. I have been to the Harry Potter theme park. I own Harry Potter merch. In my childhood, my entire Christmas list was Harry Potter things. So please know that I'm not speaking from some holier-than-thou position here.

But as things get worse and worse, we need to be even more conscious about what we are consuming, and how we are consuming it.

So here's my opinion on things we need to do:

Do not consume any new content by or related to JKR. This includes the new TV show.

If you want old content (the books), buy them secondhand. Do not give your money to the bookstores that give money to her. Give back to local secondhand shops.

Etsy has a lot of amazing independent artist-created merch, look there!

When people talk about the books, do NOT shrink away from their flaws. Mention them. Talk about the issues. Talk about the house elves and the goblins and the ridiculously racist names.

Same with JKR. When people talk about the books, the TV show, the videogame, etc, TALK about JKR's transgressions. Don't let people be willfully ignorant.

Make fandom a safe space. The world is an awful place right now and I think one of the reasons I, personally, am okay with being part of this fandom is because it is a safe place for me and so many others. DO NOT change that by becoming part of the problem and spewing hate. Cut the shit with the ship wars and the transphobia and the 'I don't like when writers...' Just stop.

Keep making your characters gay. And trans. And ace. And POC. And all of the things JKR is so scared of.
