I have no words. I literally have no words. Chapter two literally just changed my brain chemistry.
It's about Rain World.
Do yourself a favour and read it.

observations on the connections between the rotted regions and the unrottable regions
I believe its a transition upwards, from UE > OTR > Daemon > ST > AU
The connections from the rot vanilla regions to OTR and Badlands/Annex's to UE are more thematic
I think OTR is a place that might not really exist. Or, its a terribly confounded memory of something else. Considering its connection to both Daemon and UE, it might have been manifested by both
Yes, I think the Mass Ascension is a part of this all.
Yes, I think the memories and dreams of all those Benefactors that all decided to ascend in such a short window caused this all to form
The connections that UE has to Badlands and Annex are formed more randomly, and not without intention. Simply things just lined up. I will likely make another post about the memory links between each of the Watcher regions, as I haven't seen anybody touch on the ideas of memory association and nostalgia in that aspect

So, the shoreline serpentine mechanisms
One can get a vague idea of what they probably did in the past ("bite?") with a glance, and they're likely mainly there to allude to the leviathans and look cool but I wanted to analyze them a bit more regardless
And for that, karma gates will once again be pretty useful as a reference point
this serves as both a quick view at how the "head" functions and also how/why these are different from leviathans and not leviathan bones or the like
Now, the mechanism could still be interpreted in a few ways
if we stick closely to the karma gates then the "maws" would retract into the side rails
However, this leaves the center in an awkward state
it could be just a nondescript pattern like in the karma gate
it could also be a mechanism akin to drills

But, I'd like to offer another possibility: zipper maw

combining both options, maybe these dock with each other, one going into the side rails of the other, although there might also be a different head that docks into this like the following layer in the gate/the clampers of a leviathan, kinda similar to the primary cortex conduits in downpour superstructures
it could also just dock into some other structure, like a plug and a socket
Now, on the support beam theory

This is a blueprint for a support beam used for the construction of early industrial areas. You can see these in use not too far from here.
"not too far from here" sounds like it's referring to something in shoreline
now, an iterator's perception of distance would mean this "not too far" could cover anywhere in the whole game
but that would be damn boring
From a writer's perspective, this sounds like it's talking about some kind of structure in particular, and these "serpents" are the most unique structure nearby, short of the chimneys that connect the water surface to the underground sections
One could argue they aren't "in use", but what structure is in use?
One other alternative could maybe be the pillars/collumns in the garbage wastes ruins near the shoreline gate
Worth noting that there are support beams similar to these serpents, although there are no perfect matches anywhere, and the panel assets from the body segments are used for vents and walls
Fun little idea, but what if the mechanism is an assembly, expanding that segmented box body?
no real basis for this other than perhaps just how long some of these are and the vague idea of "construction equipment", but it occurred to me and i wanted to animate it
Now, here's a puzzling pair of serpents
particularly short, coming out of the top of a chimney, and connected to cogs and cables, these strongly give off the impression of construction machines meant to flex and twist and grab stuff

As previously shown though, those "maws" arent exactly designed to clasp shut, so I'm having a hard time imagining them grabbing anything; but oh well, perhaps these do be grabby hands, oversized trash worms that put collumns in place rather than junk into holes

Some Iterator Scug designs
Moon and Pebbles are wandering merchants. They have a bit more of a mentor mentee relationship. Moon is more of a pacifist and would rather run then fight. Pebbles is carnivorous but is physically weak so Moon is the one to get food.
Suns is a purpose organism made by Needles in a Pin Cushion (the Spearmaster). They mainly stay in NiaPC's facility grounds but will venture out for missions. They're anxious around both Scugs and Scavs, feeling completely out of place and awkward, around Iterators though they're fine.
Siggy grew up with Hunting til the End (the Hunter) and refuses to leave it's facilities, being too worried about it's condition. He collects karma flowers for her Iterator, he knows it doesn't help with anything but he has no idea what else to do. He's pretty lonely and quickly gets attach to any Scugs traveling through.
Inny grew up with Scavs, inheriting their mannerisms, causing her to seem cold and aggressive to other Scugs. She's untrustworthy towards Scugs and always stay by her tribe. She has a hard time understanding Scugs mannerisms so misunderstandings are bound to happen.
Sliver is big on ascension and Ancient history, having dreams about it since she was a pup. She travel far and wide to teach anyone who was willing to listen about ascension. After her disappearence, creatures that followed her came together and formed a nomadic tribe, The Devotee Tribe. She knew a certain collapsed Iterator, their relationship is unknown.
