SWSX2023 - The Ecosystem Paradigm (#FutureTools) - shel Kimen, Neil Redding (intro Shel from the off) - (Rating 2)
Tumblr media
INTRO: imagination creates reality. Earth are the billion year old ecosystem.
DISTINCTION - ABUNDANCE - JOY
COMPASSION | Listen (work with silence, we customers don’t be able to articulate an topic, there is a real problem)
BELONGING | Co-create (when spaces are safe, co-creation is fluid and comfortable)
RELIEF | Reassure (visible & tangible)
We are the verge of a paradigm shift. Quantum entanglement. Everything is connected …
Mid-Journey: AI visualization. Thriving abandoned future. > visualization. Questioning what the systems returns. The results we get is only as good as the questions we ask.
Good term: critical thinking!
Paradigm of distinction.
AI - Co-Creating - go back to previous conversation SWSX.
MYCELIUM (background check) -
Augmented Reality: bring people into shared vision. (auki labs - video)

Tumblr media
INTRO: Carrier - Started at the logistic and worked up the chain to president for Black Dimond. Has a thing for Rock Climbing
[need check] all the earnings goes to climate activities (Yvan)
Business tacking real responsibility for our problems instead of only looking for profit, profit, profit
Keep product alive: Service find a 2nd user/owner for clothing that is no longer needed. They have as well a dedicated department to repair damages and designing for repairs (ability to be repaired)
Production chain: everything we do has an impact. In general, the supply chain is the largest sector to look into when it comes to sustainability. Big impact for CO2 are in mills (assume part of the cotton production process). Investing in the support of those facilities to Improve the situation. In general, the supply chain is the largest sector to look into when it comes to sustainability. In addition, make information open source.
[need check] B-corb (B corporations) - B Corps are mission-driven companies that balance purpose and profit (monitor how good a company is with employees and sustainability). Link: https://usca.bcorporation.net/about-b-corps/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7dPq08LX_QIVdBbUAR206gUkEAAYASABEgJsZvD_BwE

SXSW2023 - Design & AI (Keynote): John Maeda, VP Design and AI (rating 4)
Tumblr media
INTRO: Story about GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) written speech. Question why is ChatGPT suddenly here? Things are developing exponentially - technology was ready for it.
Classical Design, Design Thinking (marketing workshops) Computational Design. Book recommendation: How to speak Machine
Story about himself (20min) - dry humor
= useful stuff right now
- what brings development like ChatGPT (we don’t know)
- idea base model - Design is about the materials you took
- multimodal models (can everything: language, vision, …) - stuff develop quickly. Observing how models are developing
- Herbert Simon - human rational behaves like a succor (cognition and context) - this is a good approach for model design. While cognition only is good in performing a specific task (finding images with a cat in the forest) the combination with context, the model can be applied to different situations.
What need to do: 1) select the model, 2) create the prompt (what are you looking for), 3) add context (provide more background), 4) make some tunes
Book: Computer power and human reason
Test: Use GPT to Build a design thinking session result - similar to Amy’s approach
Where to focus: What does spark joy
Movies: Arrival; Black Panter

Tumblr media
Follow-up: charge pilot, prize, what is the power generation.
INTRO:
- millions of E-vehicles will be plugged in into the power grid. As a whole those vehicles can be charged when energy is generated and distribute it back to the grid when no energy is produced
- Oakland EV busses provide energy back to …
Hayden Solomon: proterra power.
- V2G: virtual power station. Good candidates are school busses. Collaboration with Mercedes.
- pilot project in Beverly Massachusetts
Jeff (CapMetro Austin): Zero emission busses. City of Austin goal: net-zero 2040
- Sourcing electric busses, use proterra products.
- discussion with community (hospital) to be able to provide electricity in case of an emergency.
POWER OUTAGE:
- eye-opener do have made the right decision and question what to do more. In the future, we will have 1 MegaWatt Power in one of the bus
WHAT DO WE NEED: (if you want do V2G you need): All the technology is available at this time - 1) vehicle with bi-direction option, battery, 2) charger need no directional capacity, 3) utility provider need to have a program, 4) software
WHERE ARE WE: Today we have smart charging and V2X (Vehicle to building - residential housing)
Potential: V2G is a few years out, 200 busses can power 4K homes, proterra warranty does include V2G (4K over 12y)

Slack - Work (Rating: 2)
Tumblr media
Flexible work plan provides a more trustful environment
Myth #2: Productivity is only happens in the office. Want to work: 66hybrid, 19 office 15 remote
Myth #3: burn-out is a personal issue. It is at epidemic level. 42% workers globally are burned out. Leads to 19% less productivity. Younger people are tend more towards burn-out. Need to disconnect. Recommendation: core collaboration hours (you have to have less meeting). The 4d’s as a reason for a meeting
Myth #4: flexible is less expensive inclusive. Executive decisions made without inclusion of the team.
Myth #5: returning to the before 2019. Opportunity to rethink how work has to be done. Workplace more flexible, more inclusive

AI
Everything is information. The internet we know has ended.
Social media we become best friends
Instead of you searching the internet is searing you - recommendation. Attention is all you need.
Version: continuous information transformation (neural network)
Prediction LLM (unknown what is) GPT - text generator.
GPT 1 to 3. 3 Trained on everything.
CHAT-GPT use 10k Nvidia GPU
Information about information
Cloud computing
Google: Generalist AI
CONVERSIONS
Cloud infrastructure. Only a few companies can afford to run
In the search for more data, they may collaborate to get more training sources
Called accelerator.
Problem is training data. Specialist are looking simply just everything.
AISMOSIS (do more research)
Build future scenarios - what is plausible
2035:
Optimistic
- people center, multi clouds no monopolist, possibility to opt-in. You just want something, the infrastructure just delivers without you knowing who has the rights.
Catastrophic
- information cases us, the recommendation is more restricting the helping. We never get what we want.
#generative AI & Industrial Metaberse
#Assistive Computing
Assistive tools will help to do sergeries.
Ammy run a test with GPT -AI and greater a business plan including a name and URL recommendation.
New digital devise - if you have the knowledge to use the assistive systems
Scenario 2 2038:
Positive: We slow down, kids learns to beneficially deal with assistive tools, access to high quality health care (images with text overlays)
Negative: we lead to make most money out of assistive computing
This is the moment to go from fiction to reality
