         “Oi, ghost boy.”

That’s… not exactly the way one should address someone when they’re seeking a personal favor – but this is Proton we’re talking about, so it only seems natural that manners have been tossed right out of the window.

If anything, his usually intolerable behavior is made that much worse by the stress of his current predicament. On the horizon lies the prospect of returning someplace he feels outright uncomfortable going back to. A place that he’s outright avoided for some time, choosing instead to stay the night at hotels or rent out a whole other place to stay when the need calls for it.

These costs are burning a pretty large hole in his pocket.

And so his fingers wind themselves into that stupid scarf, as if to keep them both leashed together. It’s time to fix this, and our good ol’ pal Matsuba is going to help him, whether he wants to or not.

         “I’m in need of a hand, and I’ve decided that you’re the person for the job.”

          Four hours of sleep.

         That alone was enough to put Matsuba in an autopilot  d a z e  on the way to the Gym. Every shuffle of his footsteps, even the low droop of his shoulders, radiated exhaustion. For anyone looking to have a one up on the mystic, he was nothing more than a sitting Ducklett.

                    “Oi, ghost boy.”

          So ignorantly, does Matsuba stop.  T u r n.  Only to have the front bunch of his scarf seized roughly..

          He doesn’t need to open his mouth for the confusion to present itself. Beneath the dark purple bandana are tightly knit blond brows. The tired, but sudden and sharp inhale when he's ��y a n k e d  down and forward. 

          ❛ Good morning to you, too, ❜ it’s groggily spoken, and already done with whatever nonsense the green haired mankey is about to pull. There’s a hand trying to  p r y  fingers out of his scarf, and a frown nearly as dark as the exhaustion in his eyes. ❛ I am the person for a job that I will be late to if you do not let go. ❜

“You might have more luck in perceiving the cause than I do. Oh, should I bring something along? Matcha and onigiri sound delightful, I’d hate to have nothing to offer… perhaps I could bring some soup? With the weather being as cold as it is, some spicy miso would be welcome, I’d imagine.”

          Playful loops. Huh.

          Matsuba nods along in agreement. Keeping his own posse of spirits inline was a full time job, perhaps they were influencing the resident ghost types in a bad way. He fully suspected Gabu, the ghastly usually just wanted to play.

          Gabu just did not have the capacity to understand boundaries.

          Or what the word   a n n o y i n g  meant.

          ❛ Perhaps, it does help having a second pair of eyes. ❜ The mention of soup earns a bright smile. Some of the gym leader’s typical sleepy expression fading. ❛ Ah━ you know that sounds perfect. Do you make it with tofu? ❜

Steven had caught the glance and understood. Despite the hassle they’re having right now, Matsuba wasn’t unhappy about the gift. Phew.

He watched the other handle the porcelaine with so much care, Steven wished Matsuba would touch him that way too. Maybe someday he’d be deserving of that kind of gentle treatment? He watched Matsuba coax something out, silver blue eyes squinting to make sure he wasn’t missing anything.

And then he finally saw it. Looked like liquid, but not quite. A bit on the gooey side. He made out a face on the cup itself now, an expression he hadn’t noticed before. “Is this a pokemon?” Not any Steven had ever seen before. Whatever it was, it was kinda cute and didn’t seem hostile. On the contrary, it was shy and seeing two big men leaning over it must be intimidating.

          With an endearing sort of timidness, the little goop made its presence known. What resembled a tiny  w a v e  offered to the mystic, before receeding back fully into the black cup.

          One voice, gentle. The other, a   s m i d  g e   too loud. It took a few moments━( with a finger raised to Matsuba’s lips, encouraging a softer tone )━but the ghost seemed to grow more curious. 

          Two little eyes blinking on the side of the cup again, with a gold   c r a c k   separating them.

          ❛ A sinistea, or a variation. ❜ Matsuba’s hands provide an even platform for the cup to sit flat on. Posture relaxing when the wave of unsettled energy started to disperse, a more calm and gentle smile graced the mystic’s face. ❛ I imagine this was not the original cup, was it little friend? ❜

Well now it seemed that they both had something that the other feared. Allister stayed where they were, their arms pulled in close to their chest when they saw the other Gengar. Sensing her trainer’s sudden nervousness, the Trevenant opened her eye again to watch from her somewhat hidden position.

“M-mmhm…” they said with a nod before trying to swallow their nerves and speak again, “A-are you heading to B-B-Ballonlea..? I c-could lead you the-ere, if you w-wanted… That w-way the Unseelie d-don’t give you t-trouble..”

          A red eye in the dark forest tree line.

          The vision was so long ago, yet the constriction of roots still ghosted over his body. Kakyu doesn’t seem to understand what the threat is, why Matsuba’s typically sleepy posture is now so  r i g i d.

          There’s only spirits, and a little kid. ( One he surprisingly doesn’t seem interested in spooking. Perhaps it’s the unease, already hanging heavy in the atmosphere. )

          Neither should cause this much distress in the mystic.

          ❛ That was my plan, yes. ❜ The little ghoul’s stammering breaks the steady watch of the Trevenant’s general vicinity. ❛ Perhaps the both of our. . . friends, could follow behind a ways? ❜
