Track 04 - The Paradigm Shift from Asset Meditation

I changed the title of the novel to "Essence of a Bouquet" because I noticed it was actually on the novel cover in English.

Warning: Lots of cursing from Ryui's potty mouth.

A few days later.

Nagi "Ok, all good."

I feel my energy renew as I check my appearance in the mirror. I need to grasp the concept of Secret Energy soon, for the sake of everyone's happiness.

The Asset Meditation that Master Hideko taught us… I'll attain the paradigm shift today for sure.

The preparations are done.

With the healing track that was distributed at the last gathering, I wrap aluminium foil around my head and dance in place.

Just then.

Ryui "Oi Hachinoya…"

Ryui enters my room without even knocking.

Ryui "What the- have you finally lost your marbles!?"

Ryui shouted while gaping wide at my appearance.

Ryui "Sit your ass down! Seriously, have you really lost your mind? Ah that's right, you'd already lost it long ago didn't you."

Nagi "Ouch."

Toi "Nagi-kun… why did you wrap aluminium foil around your head?"

Nagi "Apparently when you wear it you can have a deeper connection to the Secret Energy."

Ryui had dragged me to the living room, where Toi was gazing at me with worry.

The interrogation soon started.

Ryui "What the hell was that weird-ass dance you were doing, it was gross as hell."

Nagi "It's called Asset Meditation."

Toi "Nagi-kun, who taught you that?"

Nagi "Master Hideko."

Ryui "Who the fuck is that!"

Ryui was looking at me as if I'd grown two heads.

To think he hasn't heard of Master Hideko…. Ryui must be a fake spiritual medium then.

Toi "I've heard about her before. She's called the Flower Princess Master Hideko right?"

Ryui "Seriously who even is that…"

Nagi "As expected of Toi, you're the real deal."

Toi nodded, though he added that he doesn't think Ryui is a fake.

Toi "She used to be a big name in the spiritual business realm before."

Nagi "Makes sense, Master Hideko's charisma is overflowing."

Ryui "Doesn't it just mean she's good at fooling people."

Toi "I heard that she fell into depression when she lost her husband. There was talk about her losing her powers."

Nagi "No, Master Hideko still has her infinite powers."

Ryui "Shitty-Hachinoya shut your trap already."

Since I got called Shitty-Hachinoya, it might be best to stay quiet for now.

Toi "I'd heard rumors that she got into some shady businesses involving illegal and suspicious spiritual tactics…"

Ryui "Like making their followers dance around with aluminium foil on their heads?"

Toi looked apologetic as he glanced at me, giving a small nod in confirmation.

Ryui "There's no hope for fools."

Toi "I think she just had a moment of weakness because of what happened with her husband…"

Ryui "That doesn't give her the right to take advantage of others though."

Nagi "I'm not being taken advantage of. I'm just about to experience my paradigm shift-"

Ryui "The shithead can shut up."

I've finally been reduced to shithead.

Toi "There are plenty of people in this world who use their spiritual knowledge correctly, and genuinely help people with their problems… But what Hideko-san is doing now isn't right."

Nagi "But Secret Energy can really lead to happiness-"

Ryui "Ahh for fuck's sake, how dense can you get!? I'll look up on how to to undo that brainwashing of yours!"

Ryui scratches his head in frustration while he looks up something on his phone with his other hand. Within a minute, he sees something that makes his eyes blow wide.

Ryui "Hey, did you see the top news today? They just cracked down on some grey-zone gatherings in mahorova."

Toi "Eh?"

Ryui "Apparently they made up some venue to hold their gatherings at. I wonder if that Hideko or whatever will get caught too."

Nagi "Master Hideko is the real deal so there's no problem. By the way, I was thinking about making a donation tomorro-"

Toi "Please open your eyes already Nagi-kun!"

Ryui "Knock it off already you dumbass!"

The two of them looked desperate as they tried to stop me.

After being shaken and slapped around and being made to listen to the "De-brainwashing Beep" that Ryui managed to find, finally-

Nagi "What was I thinking… I almost lost what little savings I had…"

Finally, I came back to my senses.

I thought back on it, and felt somewhere deep down, that Master Hideko might have been deceiving us. That would be the normal reaction, and yet for some strange reason it had been very difficult to try and come to that conclusion by myself.

But if that's the case-

What about Norisuke-san? I was one step away from losing my money but I was saved. He'd seemed very faithful to Master Hideko.

Nagi "Ah."

That's when it hit me. Today was 'that' day.

Nagi "I need to leave now."

Ryui "And where are you trying to head off to?"

Nagi "To the company building of the people operating the Society of Secret Energy."

Norisuke-san had talked about the offline meeting before. He seemed really excited to meet the real Master Hideko, I'm sure he would attend. If I could just find him-

Toi "I'm coming with you! There's something I need to tell Hideko-san and all the followers."

Ryui "Well, I'm already in it, might as well go all out and teach those assholes a lesson!"

Track 03 - Healing that occurs when you awaken your Empath Chakra

Hideko "Everyone is looking much brighter now, a huge difference from when you had first joined. Can you sense your happiness approaching? Now, today we shall awaken our chakras together-"

Master Hideko seemed divine and full of love today as well, just like a Goddess.

Black cat avatar "Wow, today was a great gathering as usual! When Master Hideko awakened my sixth chakra, I felt a whole new world open up in front of me. Is this what they call a vision!?"

Nagi "It's cool that you managed to see it Norisuke-san."

Norisuke "Aw Negi-kun, you couldn't see it? I thought we'd be buddies who opened their chakras at the same time too…"

At the usual lobby in mahorova.

Norisuke-san was the person with the black cat avatar. Though he said it was a fake name. That's why I gave him a fake name too; "Negi".

This is our 4th gathering. Norisuke-san has attended every one so far, and always makes sure to sit beside me. Master Hideko's sermons were helpful, and I was happy that I was getting along better with Norisuke-san as time passes.

Norisuke "By the way, it seems like they'll be holding an offline meeting at their company building in two weeks. I think it'd be great if we could meet Master Hideko in the flesh…"

Nagi "That does sound great."

Norisuke "Right? …Oops, look at the time, I gotta go! See you at the next gathering!"

Nagi "See you later."

After logging out of mahorova, I couldn't help but feel liberated. I head towards the living room, wondering if there was anyone there. I was feeling so elated I skipped my way there.

Ryui "The hell you prancing around for. Some of us are trying to watch TV here."

Toi "You look like you're in a good mood Nagi-kun, did something good happen?"

Toi and Ryui were watching television in the living room."

I bow slightly in apology for interrupting them, and look at the screen myself.

…Apparently it was some news about some fraud company getting exposed.

Ryui "Lately there's been some shady business going on, something to do with fake spiritual goods and techniques and what not."

Nagi "Ooh that sounds scary."

Toi "Isn't it unforgivable!? People and spirits alike, we all just want to be happy. I can't believe there are people taking advantage of others' good will to try and make money off of them."

Nagi "Yup. It's unforgivable."

That's right, everyone is searching for their happiness. That's why we give it our all everyday.

That's why, after I test it out a bit more, I want to share this with everyone at HAMA Tours. About Master Hideko's power, and how great Secret Energy is.

Ryui "Claiming that your dead kid is suffering, that your ancestors require a memorial service urgently… People who take advantage of other's weaknesses and make a whole business scam out of it ought to get the death penalty."

Toi "Yes… I'm sure God is watching over us. Right…?"

Toi and Ryui were talking about spiritual business scams.

Meanwhile, I-

'If only I had access to Secret Energy back then…'

Then maybe I could have been of help to Minemori-san. I couldn't help the feeling of regret that welled up as I remembered her face.

The autumnal sky was clear that day, and left a deep impression on me.

Nagi "Huh?"

I came by the laundromat as I usually do, but it was closed right now. Even though it was normally open at this time. I found it strange, so I went around the back and pressed the intercom button.

Mrs.Minemori "Ah… Hachinoya-kun? The shop's closed today… no, we'll be closed for the time being."

She was crying.

I rushed to her immediately.

Nagi "What happened?"

That's when I learned.

That her husband was hospitalized after falling off a ladder and breaking his hip. That the bluebird they took care of flew out of the window and never came back. That someone had scammed them out of a large sum of money by using the name of their disowned son. They had reported it to the police, but it didn't seem like it would be resolved any time soon. This series of unfortunate events had turned their life upside-down overnight

Mrs.Minemori "The shop has been struggling lately… even if we turned it around now, we'd still be in debt…"

Nagi "……"

Mrs.Minemori "I was thinking that maybe it was time I closed up shop…"

Minemori-san, who was always so bright and smart, seemed very frail right now.

I couldn't bear to see her like that, so I couldn't help but blurt out-

Nagi "My kidney."

Mrs. Minemori "What?"

Nagi "I'll sell one of my kidneys, so please use that money for your store."

Mrs.Minemori "What in the world are you saying child!? We're really ok, so you should just run along! You have a part-time job to head to don't you?"

Not wanting to worry me, she gives me a brave smile. As if trying to convince herself, she keeps repeating that they'd be ok, and closes the door on me.

Nagi "Are you pleased with this?"

Customer "Wow! It's so cute!"

Whenever I make a bouquet for a customer, I receive a bright smile. A face of "happiness".

It was raining outside. I'm sure it was raining where the laundromat was at too.

Someone like me, who has no family nor money… the only thing I could do was tie some flowers together, and send it to them.

Nagi "Senpai, could you take the cost of this bouquet off my pay?"

Pink roses, baby's breath, and lily of the valley. With my knowledge on flower language, I hoped it would provide them some strength, even if only a little.

Even for just a moment, I want them to remember the scent of happiness.

Nagi "Muuun…."*

I already have enough happiness, that's why, I wanted to give it back, no matter how little. That was my wish.

Nagi "I'm sorry for bothering you again."

Mrs.Minenori "Oh Hachinoya-kun, what am I to do with you… I told you, we're alright…"

Nagi "Actually, I-"

I've lived with unhappiness every step of my life.* That's why I'd be ok even if I can't be happy. That's why, I wanted to give my happiness to these two irreplaceable people instead. Because they were kind to even someone like me-

Nagi "I was the child that was abandoned here back then."

With this bouquet, let me protect the both of you and your store.

Track 02 - Assignment to reveal your Akashic Records

The assignment from Master Hideko goes like this:

"Write about your experiences up until this point in your life on your exclusive form and submit it before the next meeting."

However, I'm not good at using computers, an error is guaranteed to happen when I do. I could type, but it's slow and awkward, like raindrops hitting the keys one drop at a time. That's why I asked Buchi-san to write it for me instead.

Daniel "Eehh, I don't wanna. Sounds like a pain."

Nagi "I'm begging you… I'll massage your shoulders for every letter you type."

Daniel "Let's do this."

… I'm glad he accepted it so readily.

And that's how Buchi-san ended up right in the middle of my room, lying down on his stomach while he types away on the laptop.

Daniel "So, you need to write about your life? What's this even for anyways."

He side-eyes me with suspicion as he says this.

Nagi "For the sake of increasing my happiness."

Daniel "….Well, alright. Just make sure you don't join a cult or something."

He didn't seem all that convinced, but at least he went back to typing on the laptop. I close my eyes so I can focus on the assignment.

Daniel "Wait, isn't this giving away too much personal information…?"

While Buchi-san kept muttering about something or the other, I think back on my life.

At the age of 16, I started working at a flower shop.

Not the 'Flower Laundry' that I'm currently managing, but a different one. At the same time as I started working there, I got a license for two-wheelers as well, since I had to go on deliveries.

For someone like me, who's never even needed to ride the train before, my world expanded just a little. If I just tilted the handlebars in a different direction, I felt like I could reach the very edge of the world.

The possibility was right there… but I didn't do it in the end. I have a job to do after all.

Still, I couldn't stop my heart from pounding. I wanted one of my own, but it was too expensive for me.

I wasn't sure how he caught wind of it, but it was around then that a senior from my part-time job told me-

Senior "If you're alright with a hand-me-down, I can give you my old bike."

Nagi "Really?….. Thank you very much."

It was a second-hand bike. He called it a hand-me-down, but it was in a really good condition for a secondhand bike. I could tell he treasured it deeply.

I was so happy and grateful that I'd asked him what I could do for him in return, but he said he didn't need anything. Because of this overflowing happiness, a lion from the nearby zoo broke out of it's enclosure and came after me directly, but that's besides the point.

Nagi "Let's go."

I'd already decided on the first place I wanted to visit after I got my own bike.

Nagi "To the laundromat where I was abandoned."

Having written on the form up till that point, Buchi-san folds his arms and nods his head in agreement.

Daniel "I get how you feel, I would've done the same thing too. I'd try to see if I could find my mother, or at least find some clues…"

Nagi "Yes, exactly."

The first time I went, nothing magical had happened. Or rather, I simply hadn't done anything.

All I did was watch the laundromat that was empty at that time of the day, and went back without doing anything.

The second time, I decided to get off my bike and get closer. The smell of fresh laundry that hit my nose made my heart squeeze painfully tight, so I'd quickly left it behind.

Even though I never found my mother, nor did I get any leads, I couldn't help but visit that laundromat over and over again. On one such day-

Old woman "Oh my, you've dropped by again?"

Nagi "Eh? Ah, um…."

The old lady who'd been cleaning inside the laundromat called out to me. And from the sounds of it, it seemed like she already knew about my existence. Well, I guess that's obvious when I'd visited this place so often now. I'd never even gone in to do my laundry, I wouldn't be surprised if she found me suspicious and yet-

Old woman "You must have really taken a liking to this place, hm? I'm happy if that's the case."

Nagi "Ah, yes…"

The old lady, whom I assume was the owner of the shop, didn't try to blame me or find me suspicious. Instead, she smiled cheerfully.

Nagi "Um, I don't have any laundry with me right now…"

Old woman "That's alright. I guess you must love the smell of laundry too, hm?"

Nagi "Huh?"

Old woman "I understand the feeling. Whenever I caught the scent of detergent within town, I couldn't help but stop to bask in it and sigh at how wonderful it smells.

I couldn't give her an honest response at the time, so all I could do was vaguely nod.

Old woman "Feel free to drop by again!"

By taking advantage of that invitation, I started visiting the laundromat regularly. Of course, this time I actually brought clothes to wash with me.

Mrs.Minemori "Hello Hachinoya-kun, it's quite hot out today isn't it? Make sure you hydrate well. Here's 2 litres of barley tea for you, make sure you take it home."

Nagi "Oh, um, thank you…"

Her name was Minemori-san. She was getting on in the years, but she still held a certain sharpness to her.

Mr.Minemori "Hey Hachinoya-kun, play some shogi with me while you wait for your laundry!"

Nagi "Eh? Um, ok…"

Once in a while, her husband would drop by the store as well, though it was very rare. He would speak in an Edoitte manner, that is, he was straightforward and just a bit forceful.

Nagi "If you could keep in mind that I'm less effective than an AI-bot then ok…"

Mr.Minemori "You got it!"

The couple lived on the 2nd floor of the laundromat, and they had a bluebird that they kept in their living room… I've gone up there many times because I couldn't help but want to see the bird.

I got a little ahead of myself, because I couldn't help but think that if I had a people like them in my life, it would be a lot more fun.

Little by little, I couldn't help but be more greedy towards them, as though I were like their own grandson.

Track 01 - Secret Energy that can attract Happiness

Please note that the novel contains some major spoilers in regards to Nagi's past that is revealed in L4mps main story before you read!

The dialogues do not actually state who is speaking, but I noted it anyways to make it easier to understand.

"Now, let us dive deep into the sea of memories…"

As if guided by the voice I hear from the podium, I close my eyes, and dive deep into the depths of my memories.

The earliest memory I have is that of my mother, the two of us having fun at a park.

The fresh and vibrant four-leaf clover.

The happy times, immediately followed by our separation at the laundromat.

The moment I learned that the scent of partings was the smell of fresh laundry.

'……'

I open my eyes.

'Why did you have to leave me behind…'

'I want to go back to that day, a day that should have been filled with happiness.'

In the corner of a special venue in mahorova, I look around and see the avatars all around me were in tears. I had already come to terms with what happened with my mother, so I didn't join them in their tears. But I could still understand their feelings very well.

If it were truly possible for me to return to that day, I would be willing to make any sacrifice. That's what it means to be 'sad'.

This was the orientation for beginners who want to join the "Society of Secret Energy to Attract Happiness". The gathering had around 30 members, and since everyone was in their anonymous avatars, there was no way to tell anyone's age nor gender.

The person talking at the podium was known as the Flower Princess, Master Hideko. She was the one responsible for leading this gathering. She had the avatar of an old woman in her sixties… but I had a feeling that's how she looks in real life as well.

Master Hideko looked around as everyone was crying, and with a solemn yet gentle expression on her face, she started speaking.

Hideko "Please, dry your tears. I am certain that you will all be able to return to those happy days once again. "Good fortune" is simply an energy that attracts happiness based on the principle of attunement wave function, in other words if you can access your "Secret Energy", you can-"

She was using a lot of technical terms, but it was very informative. I'm glad I attended.

After joining HAMA Tours, although I was late to the party, I started browsing videos on dazzle. Strangely enough, after a bit of searching, I found that my feed was full of videos that were related to luck.

One day, I asked Buchi-san about it while I was in the living room with him.

Nagi "Seeing all these videos on the topic of luck, I wonder if it's all the rage these days…"

He responded with-

Daniel "That's just the target algorithm doing it's job."

Nagi "Algo-huh?"

Daniel "I mean, it's because you keep watching those kinds of videos all the time- ah forget it. It's too much of a pain to explain."

Nagi "So what does it mean?"

Daniel "Yeah it's all the rage, but only in your phone."

I thought it was popular because it was effective, so I'd immediately applied to join the gathering.

I myself had a predisposition that made me attract bad luck proportional to the happiness that I receive. But rather than simply wanting to be happy for the sake of being happy, I wanted to be able to spread happiness through my flowers, which meant I had to be happy first.

Hideko "Say it together now, Secret Energy!!"

Master Hideko's voice grew louder. As if everyone was pulled by an invisible force, they all stood up together. I got up in a hurry as well.

"Secret Energy!"

"Secret Energy!!"

Before I knew it, everyone was chanting "Secret Energy" over and over while hugging the person next to them.

I see, this is the power of "Secret Energy".

Everyone was hugging the person next to them as if it was the most natural thing in the world to do.

In which case, the person next to me…

When I looked over, a person with a black cat avatar was already waiting with their arms wide open.

Nagi "Secret Energy!"

That's why I returned the hug as well.

I don't think I've ever hugged anyone before, but now that I have, I could feel my heart being filled even in this virtual space.

I don't even know this person, and even if it's just through virtual avatars, this is not something that I'd experience normally. Is this one of the secrets to happiness?

As a matter of fact, the avatar in front of me seemed quite happy. There was something about it that made you feel a connection, beyond age, gender or even words.

Once again, Master Hideko's voice full of love washed over us.

Hideko "The next gathering will be for the intermediate level, so make sure you all do your assignments before you attend!"

Nagi "Phew… that was quite the passionate session."

I got a glimpse into ways of increasing happiness from a perspective that's different from mine. As I thought, it was good thing that I participated today.

Just as I was about to log out, I felt a tap on my shoulder-

Black cat avatar "Hello again! I just wanted to say, it was a really fulfilling time despite being a beginner's session."

It was the person with the black cat avatar.

Nagi "I agree. I'm looking forward to the next session."

Since I felt like I shared in some happiness with this person, I couldn't help talk with them at that moment.

Apparently, he was a 35 year old male. Although I was one generation younger than him, he didn't mind at all and was very frank, all smiles.
