The more it goes on, the angrier I get at Colin's treatment this season. Fuck Pen's Stan and Shondaland for ruining my favourite book of the saga by their need to make Pen, the snowflake who must be absolved of all blame. Mary Sue has never been my thing. Fuck Lord Plot Device, Colin is an exceptionnal man, and he deserves much better treatment.

They really went down the path of Penelope having a very serious suitor and the only reason, the only reason, she doesn’t choose him is because she’s been in love with Colin her whole life.

I honestly thought that they would just kind of play with this storyline a bit, but they actually are wanting more fan wars and people shipping Penelope and Debling.

Well the writers (and Shonda) certainly chose CHAOS for this season.

thinking about how absolutely masochistic it is to be a Colin fan in this fandom.

He never gets a narrative, never gets any real agency in stories, his reaction to discovering a close friend of his has been lying to him, destroyed his engagement without his say, fucked over his family, went Misogyny Barbie on main with her own cousin and her best friend, embarrassed him publicly is limited to either going into an inexplicable horny frenzy or to be spinelessly gentle in the face of harms committed against him. Never allowed to be angry unless it's for sex, never allowed to display neurodivergency in the form of misunderstanding his feelings, not knowing the right thing to say, not understanding what love is or entails. Constantly called stupid for truly batshit reasons. People reveling in him 'suffering' or the weird unbalanced 'penance' he needs to go through to 'prove' to Pen that he 'cares for her' (how very Catholic of y'all. interesting Pen never has to do the same for objectively worse). Denied having any depth whatsoever, in fact: no need for hobbies or friends or interests outside of those that serve Penelope and HER narrative.

Colin is meant to. . .what? Come out of several months in which his friend froze him out for seemingly no reason, assist her in fulfilling her dreams, support her endlessly, apologize profusely for one singular comment, and then find out she was the straight up villain in his life for three years running and go 'that's so sexy of you, babe'?

he's not a character in this ship. he's a cardboard cutout and it's SO unfulfilling and flat

Colin and Edwina both know what it’s like to be humiliated at the hands of people you care greatly for (Colin at the hands of Marina and Penelope and Edwina at the hands of Kate and Anthony)

Colin and Edwina both understand how harmful putting on a perfect act is, as they both have had to masquerade as these desirable, surface level people for the sake of acceptance

Colin and Edwina are both young and have made several mistakes, but none of those mistakes have genuinely harmed other characters in the long run

Colin and Edwina are both looked down upon and not taken seriously. They both know what it’s like to still be treated like a child by the members of their family. 

More things Colin and Edwina can relate on:

Their love of literature Being kind to other people Their personhood being unnoticed while their looks are front and center Being underestimated Feeling deeply and being sensitive people Saying something and regretting it Looking for their purpose and their meaning in life Being funny in quiet, understated ways

Colin can bring more fun to Edwina’s life and Edwina can bring a sense of calm and understanding. They are the perfect example of ‘in every relationship, there is a kite and a kite-string’
