I read several of your fics on ao3, they are absolutely incredible and I am obsessed with them. I really should be studying for my exams, but your writing is so dynamic and absorbing that I couldn't stop reading. I feel like you really capture the essence of Gintama, I couldn't stop laughing and it made my week. Right now I'm using Google Translate, sorry if my comment sounds very robotic ♥️
I'm honored! Thanks for reading and enjoying, and I hope those exams go well for you~
There are definitely days when I miss writing Gintama fics, because that universe is too fun.

Yet another AO3 bot situation - please spread the word!
Hi, it's me again, the person who wrote that viral post about fanfiction plagiarism! Today I'm here to warn you about abuse perpetrated by bots who have stolen AO3 usernames.
There's currently an epidemic of bots going around leaving (apparently random) horrible, hateful comments on people's fics. This isn't the first time bots have invaded AO3, but the big problem with this wave is that they're using real AO3 usernames to do it.
I learned about this when another writer contacted me after receiving the following comment on their story:
Tumblr media
Now, while that is my username, I DEFINITELY did not leave this comment (and anyone who would leave something like that on a fic should be slapped! What an awful thing to post). This fic is in a completely unrelated fandom that I have never participated in, nor has that author participated in any of my fandoms, so the probability of it being some intentional fandom drama thing to make me look bad is also low.
The writer whose fic the comment was left on enlisted the aid of some friends and tracked down other guest comments with unrelated usernames attached, which is pretty strong evidence that they are being left by bots at random.
The TL;DR: If you receive a cruel comment from a (Guest) with an actual AO3 username attached, it's most likely from a bot. Please do not lash out at or dogpile the AO3 user who owns that name, and who in all likelihood has no idea that their name has been hijacked for evil.
If finding this kind of comment on a fic, even left by a bot, is likely to upset you, I would recommend changing your comment settings so that only users who are logged in can leave comments. To do this, edit your story settings, and under "Privacy," select the radio button that says "Only registered users can comment," as shown below.
Tumblr media
Please spread the word to other AO3 users! And if you see mean guest comments on other fics, maybe let the author know that it's probably from a bot and not a real person who thinks their writing is bad.

Hiii. Your latest fic was amazing! I loved seeing your work once again soooo much. Some questions, will u be writing more gntm fics and how is your original novel or book writing going? Did it find any success? Thank u so much for ur fics and have a nice day (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)(人 •͈ᴗ•͈)(人 •͈ᴗ•͈)
Thank you kindly, anon. Glad you enjoyed this one! Honestly, I think I might be reaching the end of my ficcing career. It's been amazing to be able to explore Sorachi's characters and world in ridiculous, self-indulgent ways that other internet people can enjoy, but you know what they say about all dumb trains? They all reach the end of the line eventually.*
I feel like I need to try and focus my available writing time on actually fleshing out the original work that's been haunting me recently. Which is to say, in response to your question about a novel, I'd been struggling, but I recently threw my first attempt in the garbage and I'm trying again. :)
*Though I've been considering participating in a charity event like donating a fic submission to Fandom Trumps Hate at some point... maybe?
As for your second ask on motivations, I struggled to think of an answer that made sense. I suppose I'll leave it to Rebecca Elson: What touched me Driving through the currents Of your blood, The clouds of red and pale plankton, Coral reefs of bone, Was not your deepest, blackest canyons, Not the vents, the alchemy, The strange, transparent, half-thought things, But the thrumming of your ceaseless, Your disturbing heart: That untried ocean liner On its maiden -- On its only -- Voyage -A Responsibility to Awe

I'm back

In case anyone was wondering, I recently re-emerged from the abyss. I will get to work on finishing what I started on AO3 in short order.

Hello. I have wanted to ask you, why did you delete your Zag and Thanatos fanfic. It was a good fic, and I'm curious as to why deleted it.
Oh, it's not deleted. I orphaned it. AO3 lets authors throw their fics into the ether, essentially un-assigning them to their profile, but keeping them up on the site, so readers can still read them. Which is to say, that fic is still up on AO3, you just won't find it under the Works section for my Game_Changer account. Since I knew I wasn't going to be able to complete that one, I decided to gently hide my shame.
For more info on AO3's orphaning process, click here.

Thanks to those who gave me their thoughts on this! I’m probably going to add spoiler indicators at least for my most trafficked work. Maybe others if I find the time to go through them.
Spoiler Indicators
Hey tumblr fanfic readers (particularly of the Gintama variety), quick question for you.
Do you find it helpful if writers include ‘Spoilers up to ep xx, ch xx, arc xx’ in the fic summary? Do you look for that kind of thing, or do you only visit the ao3 section for a fandom when you’ve finished the series? Or are you a beast that fears no spoilers in the face of some good, home-grown fan content?
I recently had a reader comment that they waited until they had read the whole of Gintama to read something I wrote, and that’s no small time investment. I was thinking I could put spoiler indicators in the main summary of some of my fics if that would be useful for people.

I feel like there’s needs to be, like, handbook for authors who post on Ao3 for effective metatext.
By metatext I mean like tagging, summary, and authors notes (especially initial authors notes at the beginning of a fic). The means by which we communicate to our readers what they’re getting into.
Because we kind of all have to learn it by osmosis and there are conventions but nobody’s really taught them at the start, so there’s inconsistencies and misunderstandings or people just not knowing things through no fault of their own.
This ends up breeding frustration and confusion and in the worst cases resentment, hurt, and aggression.
I’m severely tempted to make such a handbook and get it circulating.
I think it would do fandom a lot of good.
