Don't let anyone tell you that there isn't hope, that there aren't people fighting and working and just as scared and angry as you are. You are not alone. Peaceful protests, contacting reps, and simple non-cooperation is how we sustainably and successfully push back against authoritarianism.

"We're cooked" is the devil talking. Giving up, rolling over, and perpetuating the idea that we've already failed is exactly what MAGA wants. Don't give them the satisfaction. Don't make it easy. I am a huge fan of retiring to my quarters

I need to stop having my OCs experience death because I can’t write it. I don’t know how it feels, and it’s one of the only feelings and experiences I can’t extrapolate for it to get a better idea of how it might feel.

and I think this struggle tells me so much about it.

There are so many feelings that I can take and apply to other situations and feel the situtation myself, or i can imagine a situation and feel it all on my own sometimes, but grief? nothing.

That’s not to say I’ve lives my life without loss, I think what’s really happened is that the grief I have felt has been so brief in passing that I never got the chance to feel what it actually feels like, and it always feels different for everyone.

it’s so complicated its impossible to recreate.

and there’s something in that, that makes us so human.

we are not just human because of our skin and our eyes and our hands and feet. we are not human because of our clothes and our money. we are not human because of our systems and economies. Pigs can do that. We are human because we love and we grieve.

We are human because we have things to live for, not just to survive for.

We protect the things we love because we love them, not just so that they can survive, and when we lose those things that we love, we keep that with us.

Sure, there are animals that grieve, and mourn, and sometimes fall into depression after a loss, but humans? Humans remember it. A piece of us was physically taken away. The love that we had now has nowhere to go like it used to. We can’t simply move on. We lost something to live for.

Being a human is about love and grief.

That’s it.
