hi I love your art!! I hope I'm not bothering you but could you maybe do the teeniest colouring/painting tutorial? I love your style and I would love to be able to paint digitally but I don't know where to start
Hi there! This is a really sweet ask so thank you so much!
My process is not really structured but I can describe it a little bit to maybe give you some ideas of different ways you can go about doing digital art.
Also prefacing this with, I started trying to draw on a tablet before I took any schooling for art but I also in college did finally take classes and have a BA in art so like- I can’t stress enough how much of my style evolved around the principles I learned- especially in my beginning painting classes. Not that you have to take schooling, of course, there’s a ton of resources for self-taught artists, it just really helped me personally even though I did horrible in school while I was there haha.
My process is basically 3 steps and step 1. is drawing a sketch. I try to make sure basic things like the proportions are right here but they’re not especially clean. I also do not do line art. I don’t enjoy doing it, how it looks for my art, OR think i’m good at it at all lol. So instead for step 2. I just put some flats under my drawing, put some general blobs of color variation or shading where I want, I also play around sometimes with blending modes for the sketch, usually linear burn (I use PS CS6) and varying opacities gives me the color difference I’m looking for.
then I just go nuts rendering on top of all the layers. So instead of a clean lineart to paint under I basically paint as I would a traditional painting. Adding and adding. I don’t use the eraser either, just paint out what I do and don’t want. Obviously I can’t teach you *how* to paint bc that’s different for everyone but digital art can be as close or as far away from traditional as you want it to be! I try not to blend out any brush strokes bc I like the chunky look. Then I cheat lol. Sometimes blending modes really make colors pop, and sometimes they completely drain all the color variation you painted, so it just depends on what I painted whether a blending mode added anything or made it look worse.
that is literally my entire process and 90% of my time spent is rendering in circles. I’m constantly in the middle of “this looks too rendered, there’s no more life in the sketch” and “this looks too messy, it’s not *finished* yet”
I don’t know if this has any advice that will help you at all but if anything I hope it lets you know digital art is just a big bullshit sandbox that you can develop a process for yourself in a million directions- this is just one of them, if you’re more traditionally inclined!

HOLD UP FULL STOP
STOP COMMISSIONING HALCHROMA THEY ARE STEALING ARTWORK AND COMMITTING FRAUD WITH YOUR MONEY
First time? Meh, figure it was a mistake.
But the second fucking time? FULL. STOP.
This is the first example https://rpfind.me/photo/view/18641/albumPhotos?albumId=8258 (so sorry to the person that commissioned this and got ripped off)
I only make this post because I know there’s a lot of WoW RPers out there that have commissioned her and I want you ALL to make sure you weren’t ripped off, as well as the artists she ripped off of are aware of it too.
Time to do some sleuthing. Send me your pieces and I will see if I recognize any of it from anywhere.
Also check your references. I guess HalChroma copies from references most of the time. If it looks too good to your reference, odds are, it is.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/615585842788433739/feedback/?invite_code=79282c1068cd4db097e6007f2eed55fe&sender_id=697917410912587221
This was an overlay done with the initial sketchwork of a commission and the commissioner caught it and asked for changes. The commissioner had given the picture as a REFERENCE not as a copy, but as a reference for the pose.. NOT for a copy.
She also does it to her own artwork too… so you’re not actually getting an original piece.
Who KNOWS who she originally traced over and copied for her pieces that she copies from herself?
