Introduction

The fashion trend I chose to talk about is aviator hats. Aviator hats were originally used for open cockpits with high altitudes for the early 20th century, but are now being used for a vintage style. They were mainly seen being used in the 90s as a fashion trend but recently resurfaced as of 2023. They are described as plush materials like faux, suede, leather and quilted fabrics,They have oversized ear flaps that are often left undone. It frames the face and adds attention to overall appearance. 

Analysis

Aviator hats have become a streetwear staple. Many celebrities and fashion influencers wear this fashion. It's usually for the cold weather and to protect your face. It was popular in New York due to the extreme cold weather they face, but it became popular throughout the U.S. Celebrities like Bad Bunny, Asap rocky, kanye west, and  Rihanna. This is an important trend to follow as the hat itself provides function to the head and face during the winter months. It resonates with climate anxiety. The demographics that are wearing this trend are ages 18-35. All genders are mostly seen wearing this. The psychographics seem to stem from values that go into individualism, nostalgia, sustainability. People seem to want to have a sense of individuality and vintage aesthetic. 

Trend Forecasting. 

I do see the trend developing in the next 3-5 years because of how many people adhere to it now. And how the celebrities also adhere to it. I feel that major brands will want to be included with the trend also. The brands such as Chanel, Balenciaga and prada. I believe those brands should pay attention to those trends because celebrities will be able to wear them if they show it on tv.

Dazed and Confused fashion Analysis

Introduction

The film I want to analyze is Dazed and Confused. The film consists of teenagers that live in Austin, Texas. The teenagers are celebrating their last day of high school in 1976.  The star football player made a promise to focus on the game and not go to parties and things of that nature. The incoming freshmen are to be teased as a part of their hazing for entering the high school.

Description

The fashion in Dazed in Confused is made up mostly a laid back, and youthful style during the 1970s. The fashion styles also show the personality of each character for example the character “Slater” who wears clothes that are comfortable yet seem to be fashionable. They give off his own persona as being a stoner as well as carefree and not like everyone else. Whereas the character “Randall Pink floyd” is more outgoing and stylish. He tends to wear loose fitting dress shirts and bell bottoms. Since he is perceived as the cool guy in the show his style seems to have an edgy feel to him. The scene where they are buying weed you see the characters sitting in the room with their fashionable clothes on. One character, “Kevin Pickford”, is selling weed. We see him wearing a pink flowy shirt with his chest showing and his hair parted. We see “Slater” wearing his iconic baggy pants and weed shirt and his cap to show off his carefree hippy vibe.

Analysis

My interpretation of the show is being shown high school life from the perspective of these teenagers for how they were experiencing  high school in the '70s. They showed each character's perspective and explained what they thought of life and also how they navigated it. What they also thought of life and how they felt about their lives. It was just a chill laid back movie of some going into high school while others were getting out. It seems like the fashion is created for a movie with the overall aesthetic design. The fashion also showed the audience the social class of a certain character like Randall pink floyd since he was the star quarterback and the character David Wooderson who was an older guy who hung around high schoolers he had a laid back style such that consisted of a graphic tee and bell bottoms. The movie embraces denim as a symbol of the 70s with character wearing a lot of this such as their pants jackets and vests. The style influenced the public in the 90s on the "Denim on Denim" Especially with celebrities. The films costume design became a trend for the styles of grunge,vintage and retro. Items like denim jackets bell bottom jeans were a staple in the 90s after the release of the movie.

Conclusion

The film had authentic fashion that showed what was popular during the time such as bell bottoms, Graphic tees and ringer tees, plaid and flannel shirts, that highlighted the fashion during those times as well as the slang. The look was carefree and showed the rebellious free spirit of that time. The scenarios the teenagers went through. It highlighted outfits during those situations such as the crazed jock wearing his attire with blue and white to shirt with a baseball cap or the group of teenage girls wearing high waisted jeans having to lay down to zip them up. The fashion was to highlight the statement of teenage life during the 1970s. I recommend this film if you like vintage movies and old iconic teenage movies such as Breakfast club, Not another teenage movie, and Ferris Bueller's day off .
