So Vex, chosen of the god of fire, destruction, and change, was tossed unceremoniously into a ceremonial brazier at said god's temple. The rest of the party was freaking the fuck out, understandably, especially when Vex didn't come out right away or even make any sound.

But Urik is a man of the gods, a druid of the Old Faith, and most of all, knew she had the strength and will to get through the test. Eventually, she comes out of the fire, whole and undamaged but covered in soot and blackened by the flames. Also she was naked.

Urik ran to greet her, knelt down and hugged her gently, incredibly proud. Her nerves still alight from the fire, eyes still a bit blind, all she could do was smell his scent and hugged him back.

If the banescales were eradicated because of their ferocity in battle, is that perhaps why the Flamecaller made coatls? They are so much softer than her first children. They speak in song and give gifts to share their affection. The encyclopedia describes them as "an agreeable lot" who give gifts to "placate enemies and competitors."

After the loss of the banescales, was the Flamecaller's heart so broken that she made children who would not prompt such extreme retaliation?

They didn’t lift them so much as license them. It became a big thing because the Robotech licensee, Harmony Gold, sued the creators of Battletech and forced them to remove the Macross derivatives from their work (it wasn’t so much that HG had a good case, but that they had significantly more money with which to tie things up in court). HG only licensed the TV version of Macross in the US.  FASA (creators of Battletech) licensed the design rights to the MOVIE versions.  Nevertheless, to avoid costly litigation, FASA removed several Battlemech designs from their game. Those removed Battlemech designs became known as The Unseen. Anyway, after 30+ years of court battles, the court case has finally been resolved in Battletech’s favor.  Because of this, Battletech licensees (Mechwarrior Online, Mechwarrior 5, Battletech, etc.) can now use the classic old Macross-derived designs such as the Warhammer, Archer, Marauder, etc.
