Honest to god "came back wrong" is one of the sexiest tropes there are. Especially if the catch isn't "oh it's not them after all, it's just a monster wearing their shell" but instead it IS still them, just changed. Irrevocably so, perhaps in grotesque ways, but at the core of it all, past all the whispers and strange looks behind their back, past even their own self-doubt - lies a small part of the person they used to be. The very part that counts.

Yeah, get driven to near-insanity by what you lost and can't get back. Struggle with your identity, your own skin. Ask yourself every day and every night, was it really worth it?

And then, find the strength to eventually answer, yes, yes it was.

Thinking forever and ever about how Shadow openly, canonically, struggles not to treat her as an untouchable saint in Sonic x Shadow Generations.

Maria comes back and all the sudden she's as quiet and moody and cold and distant as Shadow was after all his trauma. I don't think he'd take it well even if he really tried to. Have you ever had to live with someone who's hurt you so deeply, no matter how unintentional?

Because the essence of "coming back wrong", at least to me, is that the notion of you that everyone had in their heads is still dead. But you're here. You're alive. But you can't be what everyone needs you to be. You can't be the before. There is only the after.

She's the one who feels it the most wrongly of all. She, Maria Robotnik, well-known and remarked light of everyone's lives, who fought so damn hard not to lose her spark to her illness and has insofar succeeded-

-watching herself be unable to be that again. It was stripped from her the moment the bullet hit.

I think the guilt would eat that poor girl alive.

Thoughts on Shadow going to Cream's tea parties? I like to imagine he's super resistant to going, but once he's there he's actually the prime audience for such a party. You get to sit together calmly with your friends to chat and drink tea (or just pantomime the motion, depending on if this is a pretend tea party or not). Having the cup gives him something to do with his hands and the world's best excuse to avoid eye contact. I think he'd actually get to relax for a change.

Plus, really, Cream is a big draw as well. I think being able to act as an older sibling for a little while would be healing for Shadow. It's a new experience, so it isn't just a painful reminder, while still getting that sibling-esque mundanity that basically evaporated from his life the moment the alarms started blaring on the ARK.

Of course, he'd rather die than let any of his friends know he actually enjoys this. Thankfully, Cream is surprisingly understanding and doesn't mind having tea 1-on-1 with him. Eventually Amy gets in on the action too, but that's after a lot of time and trust (and maybe a surprise appearance with lavender cupcakes on Amy's end.)

hey so if there were an alternate timeline where the ark disaster was narrowly avoided would or would Shadow not end up becoming a total fucking square by the present day. Like the most unhip edgeless sweatervestiest lameoid the world's ever seen. like he wears glasses not because he has to but because he wants to kind of lame.

Nah, Maria's way too fucking cool for that. She'd teach him how to dance, how to tell a good joke, to smile for himself instead of for others. If he wears glasses it will indeed be because he wants to, and they're going to look awesome because there's no way he would choose glasses that don't look cool.

Like yeah, Shadow would still be a bit shy and closed-off and old-fashioned. In this alternate timeline I think he would be softer. But he's still a black-and-red spiky hedgehog who's the Ultimate Lifeform with rocket shoes. Pretty sure it's scientifically impossible for him to not have SOME level of cool.

Imagine if we were able to play as Omega in episode Shadow during Sonic Forces. I would've loved to have a boss battle with Infinite just like its shown in the promotional comics...

If Omega is ever playable again I am screeching with joy.

In my dreams, his playable sections are first-person shooters. Like, everything else is your normal sonic game with third person perspective. Specifically Omega's section is FPS with a heads-up display and everything tinged with red. You get to cycle between all his weapons like Doomguy.

E-123 Omega. Self explanatory. This robot took the time to actually figure out that having friends is something he wants, so if they left him??? Can you imagine???? No longer is he just a robot willing to destroy everything in his way to achieve his goals, but now it's deeply personal. Watch him be helplessly consumed with hatred and the inability to acknowledge his grief. It would fuck up his whole worldview and it would be just gut-wrenching to see.

Sage. Alright hear me out. No matter if she's crashing out in the direction of becoming like her dad, or if she's crashing out to try and not be like her dad. It's fantastic either way. Sage likes Sonic and likes the beauty of the world- seeing her think she has to surgically amputate these parts of herself to serve her dad? Heartbreaking. Sobbing as we speak. Sage loves her dad- seeing her lose it to the point where she thinks he has to be stopped, dare I say eliminated? Can you imagine the spiral? Can you imagine the agony over that decision?
