there's a version of me in the head of every person who's met me, read my writing, etc. it's definitely not an exact version of me, but shaped by that person's particular preconceptions, the circumstances of our interaction/s, how long we've existed in relation to each other to be mutually shaped. no two versions can be said to be the same... indeed, there could be said to be even more versions of me than that, because people will remember different qualities depending on factors like their state of mind, so perhaps we could say there's multiple bryns in some people. (the phrase 'living rent free in someone's head' refers to this phenomenon).

sometimes i hear my partner talking in her sleep and wonder if she's dreaming of a version of me, and what dream bryn is getting up to, and how her actions reflect on me - if a dream can change someone's impression of me. nothing to be done if so... but i wonder at what point your 'simulation' of another person becomes so detailed as to become a kind of pseudo tulpa which could be said to have its own subjectivity. could that happen? brains are strange things, and I know many people who share a brain with multiple distinct subjectivities who do not share memories or identity, sometimes coexisting and sometimes taking in turns, so it doesn't seem impossible.

of course, people need not be real to inspire this effect. we form impressions and models of fictional people just like real ones, to the point that people can bitterly argue about whether a portrayal is 'out of character'. i wrote a story once where the characters realise this is the condition of their existence and desperately try to make a strong enough impression to 'stick around'. does that mean that there are fictional characters achieving something like real subjectivity in the brains of their devotees? some people go to effort to cultivate this kind of tulpa (a term borrowed from a mostly unrelated Buddhist practice), for example by hypnosis. is this 'real'? we face the same problem as any other effort to discern the existence of other minds, and i suspect the boundaries may be rather murky, but i don't see an a priori reason why not...

anyway, sometimes i think about all these different versions of me. i notice their existence only in negative instances, like when someone has a view of me which i consider unfair. some of them are 'out of date', based on versions of me which no longer resemble the current me very much (or so i hope) after i stopped speaking with someone.

of course, we could go so far as to say there are a number of bryns that exist inside my own head... and like, they're just as limited. when I'm in a depressive episode, my self narrative narrows down, and i have a very different model of who i am and what I'm trying to be than when I'm for example trying to defend myself in an argument or thinking about creating art. could we go as far as to claim these different models of 'myself' are like different 'existences', perhaps even potentially holding their own subjectivity? i think they could become such, but presently there are enough processes linking these different moments into one stream of consciousness, so they all blend into each other as different facets of one thing. but it's interesting to contemplate.

language - serialised, definite as it is - seems very inadequate to the problem of trying to understand these things we are, but it's the only tool i really have, apart from loading it up with metaphors to evoke something that's hard to say directly. i do wish it was easier to recognise how people see me, and conversely, better adapt my model of them to the 'reality'... but i only have my own impressions, my own narratives as raw material. it is sufficient to form a basis for relationships to develop and change and be fulfilling, and that will have to do until gendo shows up to juice us into LCL...

how to map? any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. esp for big big systems.

we have a complex planetary system for an innerworld and the different planets seem to be akin to sidesystems.

we've never actually had contact with a sidesys until recently and we spoke different languages and had to resort to communicating over drawings, projected feelings and by reading body-language, etc. it's been . . .

anyway, it's about time we started mapping because this if we don't want to be completely lost on how all of this is going, we gotta start.

the question is how and where. no idea. all response v/ appreciated!

Start small! Give yourself a map of front/immediately innerworld. Then slowly branch out my making a bigger map and having that area marked with a symbol. Take your time, accept input from others, and don’t stress over a map if it does more harm than good.

I just realized that we, as a system, are quite powerful. /hj Let me explain – we're almost always polyconscious and our communication is great. And we all have different personalities and are able to do different things. For the example: I'm not so good at talking with people, just being social is difficult. But Xav is different, sun LOVES talking with others and is our social butterfly. So if I can't do something, it can always help me. Because of it we're able to do different things!! What's also awesome – because of our emotions-dealing system we're able to handle... a lot. Xavery's and Nyx's roles – emotional gruardian, beauheur and emotional funnel – complement each other. Of course I don't use their abilities a lot, because that would be unhealthy, but it's still so great. I love being a system.

This is just my 2¢ as a nonbinary person but I genuinely think that cis people's gender is just as constructed as trans people's. Cis people love to accuse us of having making up genders or artificially modifying our appearance but....the entire makeup, fashion, diet, workout, and haircare industry exists so that cis people can maintain the illusion of two entirely distinct genders with no overlap.
