with chapters 3 and 4 more people are reading into the themes of ralsei's choice of gender nonconformity in the face of the prophecy and it's like yesss yessss I'm so glad people are seeing the vision

there's a part of me that has always seen his choice of being GNC as a subtle way of going against the prophecy's requirement of a prince. Like he acknowledges he has to fit the role but otherwise seeks his own way of doing so. I imagine his choice of removing his cloak followed by his hat in chapter 1 was a part of this. Susie and Ralsei are opposites of two extremes, but they both learn from each other over time. So I would imagine Ralsei's choice to unmask and show his true self indicates a level of trust that he can appear how he wants around the others.

there's a lot of people proposing the idea of him being not cis as a result of this, which I can totally agree with. His arc primarily deals with learning to acknowledge his own feelings and seeing himself as a person, as well as trying to believe the prophecy he ties himself to isn't as rigid as he originally thought. What better way to disprove a supposedly "absolute" prophecy than by not adhering to the gender role you were assigned?

I wouldn't mind either way how the story goes. I think these themes can work regardless of if he's trans or not. But I very much believe his gender nonconformity is an important part of his character and I hope it's explored more in the future.

Deltarune tying the in-universe Lord of the Hammer book series to the video games of Dragon Blazers is much like the real life inspirational trail that Tolkien's works had on the fantasy genre. Role playing games inspired by Tolkiens works such as DND would eventually lead to computerized simulations and therefore the genre of RPG video games. Obviously this is an oversimplification and there's a lot more that could be said on correlating fantasy and religion and mythology all with each other, and also the idea of the hero's journey/monomyth. But as someone who's been doing research into the history of the RPGs, Deltarune comes off not as a pastiche of the genre, but an outright love letter to it
