One of my favourite textures I spotted was waiting for a sandwich near le marché des enfants rouges: bejewelled manhole cover, so abundantly joyful

It is literally impossible to save money when you are poor.
One more time for those in the back: It is literally impossible to save money when you are poor.
This isn’t because of bad planning or irresponsibility. It is because everything costs money all of the time, poverty is engineered by capitalism, and being poor is fucking expensive.
I’ll never forget the time when my then-boyfriend told me that I should buy a $75 pair of work shoes instead of the $10 work shoes I’d bought only months ago that were already falling apart. His reasoning was that better-made shoes would last longer and I wouldn’t have to buy shoes so often. This didn’t take into account the fact that I would need that extra $65 for the power bill, groceries, gas, car insurance, etc.
I have never been given good advice from a non-poor person when it comes to money. Ever. Because all of their advice is predicated on the idea that somehow you aren’t working hard and that money is available to you if you just want it bad enough. Non-poor people have been made to think that they are somehow just naturally good with their money, but when you ask them to think critically when it comes to money, they lose all logic.
Let me be clear: Poor people are some of the hardest working, creative, and smartest people I have ever met. We wouldn’t survive otherwise.

Lovely 1888 Victorian in Galveston, TX comes with it's own historic photos. 137yrs. old and she hasn't changed a bit. 4bds, 3ba, 3,301sqft, $1.250m.
The front door opens into a small foyer. The doors have original patina.
Then those door open to a hallway, not a central stairwell. It's an unusual layout. To the left is the main sitting room.
So complete, just like stepping back in time. Beautiful woodwork, fireplace, and pocket doors. Look at the lights they installed around the crown molding. That's different.
All of the beautiful stained glass windows are original. Look at the model of the house. I would imagine that the new owner gets that, too.
There's a nice wide side hall with the main stairs. Look at the finial on top of the newel post. The railing is lovely, too.
The 2nd reception room has another original fireplace and pocket doors.
Another set of pocket doors opens to the dining room. It has a bas relief ceiling and a beautiful chandelier.
I'm not sure if this is a half bath or just a sink. But, look at the closet. This home is so original, it's amazing.
The kitchen reno isn't bad. It looks like it follows the footprint of the original kitchen and by choosing white cabinetry, they brightened it.
There's a matching new pantry.
But, the original pantry is still here, too.
You see the details of the railing up here. It looks like they took the original oil lamp fixture and had it electrified.
A photo of the primary bedroom then and now.
Modern/vintage bath reno. I love the tile and the marble counter. They also kept the original linen closet.
Another spacious bedroom. Look at the original built-in mirror next to the fireplace. All of the transoms work above the doors.
This renovated bath has a walk-in closet/dressing room.
Two beautiful 2nd floor porches.
Architectural details.
Look at this photo. It goes way back.
The house comes with nice keepsakes.
There's quite a large yard.
0.26 acre lot.
