Lover had so much potential. It could've been dreamscape pop with the clouds and the kaleidoscope of colors. It could've been Americana festival music with the casual t shirts and fringe and patriotism. It could've been an electric fun summer like a carnival to contrast the sad dark pop at the time. It could've been all Swiftian with the romance and the drama and the storytelling. It could've been a power statement full of badass self confidence. Instead we got a hodge podge everything but none of the needs are quiet fulfilled. I feel like Lover edges me but never actually gets there.

Like I don’t hateee these songs but I feel like they just don’t fit the vibe of the album at all!! Same for the man but i actually enjoy the song 😅

to me, lover feels like the first time where she said “this is what i want to say” and then wrote the song about it, rather than writing the songs first and letting the album narrative naturally unfold. it feels disjointed to me because it’s a connection of statements instead of an emotional narrative

i've been watching a bunch of 1989 era interviews lately and watching her soul slowly die is. so crazy to watch. early 2014 she's bouncing of the walls so excited to release 1989 and then by the time the tours wrapping up she's just like. i've been hunted by paparazzi every day of my life since i was a child and i will never escape them. i smile in my sleep because i'm so used to cameras on me while i have nightmares about being framed for a crime i din't commit. i can tell people are starting to resent me and i know i'll be eaten alive soon i just don't know when or why it will happen. i feel relaxed right now.
