Rodan knew he shouldn’t have come alone. What had started out as an innocent border patrol turned into something more sinister when the clouds around him began to swirl and moisten unnaturally. Rodan wasn’t an idiot, he knew who was responsible for this. But how? Ghidorah had died– Rodan had seen the False King killed before his very eyes at the hands of Godzilla. 

So how? How was this happening? 

No time to deliberate that. Rodan knew he needed to get out, and fast. Should he stick around, he figured Ghidorah would be less than pleased. He decided too late though, given the way the air seems to snap at Ghidorah’s shriek.

Damnit. 

Rodan was left face to face with Ghidorah, wings keeping him aloft in the moist winds. This wasn’t going to end well, he could tell. That being said, the False King’s words tear through any sort of composure Rodan held right out of the gate.

“Subject? You- You used me!” He said, his voice’s power akin to the rolling thunder around them, “You made me kill my friends! Nothing about our alliance was voluntary!” But was that the case? Rodan felt a sickening guilt churn in his stomach. A small, minuscule part of him wanted that partnership back.

The majority, however.

          ✖ OFFENSE SPILLS THROUGH GHIDORAH’S FACES, offense that translates to them pulling back, the Death Song turning up two of his heads snobbishly, almost as if they are so insulted by Rodan’s declaration of the truth that they cannot speak. The leftmost, the one that does not immediately shirk the other Titan, has its lip tremble and its eyes soften with sadness.

              FALSE? Real? It is impossible to tell--Ghidorah is so alien his mind is nearly impossible to interpret.

          ✖ “ No, no no no, no no no, Rodan, ” Croons the head, its trilling voice warbling as it slithered closer. The other two kept their noses upturned, letting the third of three brothers do the speaking for them. Of all the siblings, the leftmost head was the most skilled at diplomacy.

                 Diplomacy, and lies.

          ✖ “ You misunderstand, you merely followed orders so delightfully well, displaying such an admirable loyalty. We ALL appreciated your loyalty, so, so much, dear Rodan. ” The left hisses its honeyed words from its silver tongue, chuckling as it does so.

           ✖ “ Won’t you come back to me, Rodan? Serve your RIGHTFUL King again? INDULGE WITH ME, RODAN? “

She stared in horror at the full scope of his thoughts and desires. The psychic felt herself shudder in revulsion. This was what Earth was to them? Not a home, not a strange place for an alien, but a meal? A buffet? Were they really so short-sighted, ridiculous, and gluttonous that this was the complete summation of their thoughts on her home? 

“…I think it’s you that doesn’t understand,” she rebutted, keeping herself unmoved in the new storm’s winds. “Those oceans, mountains, and continents you want to ‘indulge’ in are complex environments that hold trillions of living beings. Biospheres that rely upon the complicated relationships that these forms of life have evolved and depended upon for millions of years. If you do even…one of the things you’re thinking about doing, it will destroy us.” 

Surely some part of him understood that? Ghidorah needed to know that no person on this planet would willingly become his subject if he destroyed their homes and their lives? 

“I literally cannot indulge in my planet the way you do because I need the oceans, mountains, plants, animals, and atmosphere to live,” she explained as clearly as possible. “So again, I have to ask: how can you possibly think I can worship you when it means everything I know and love is gone?” 

          ✖ “ THEN YOU ARE NOT TO INDULGE--YOU ARE TO BE INDULGED UPON. HOW PITIFUL. ” Ghidorah chitters, shaking his heads from side to side as he sighs with resigned defeat. He tried to offer her something new--at least, such was what he believed. Offer her a chance to indulge, not to be consumed with the rest when it finally came time to DEVOUR everything this world had to offer him.

              Alas, it wasn’t meant to be, evidently. Could any blame him for trying?

          ✖ “ REST ASSURED, GIRL, MY DESIRE TO INDUGLE ON YOUR PLANET IS NOT BORNE FROM IGNORANCE. I KNOW VERY WELL WHAT FATE ABIDES YOU ALL WHEN I ONCE AGAIN SATE MY DESIRES. ” Ghidorah’s voice sounds almost reassuring--as if that were the root of Madison’s fear. The fear that Ghidorah simply did not KNOW the destruction he was going to wrought--to him, at least, he must have assuaged her worried.

              After all, he knew what his indulgence brought upon entire worlds.

          ✖ “ YOUR SACRIFICE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN. AT LEAST, FOR A TIME. YOUR LOYALTY TO YOUR KING IS TRULY ADMIRABLE. ”
