It’s been interesting seeing the GMMTV Problem finally come to a head with Sweet Tooth, Good Dentist. It’s the same problem it’s been for a couple years now: GMMTV is no longer making stories, they are primarily making branded pair content. STGD is not uniquely bad relative to other recent GMMTV BLs, it just doesn’t have a popular branded pair with fans who are willing to pretend it’s good anyway.

KimKenta's First Kiss
There's a lot that's already been said about this scene that I don't feel the need to rehash, but I do want to add my two cents to a conversation I keep seeing about whether Kim is strong enough to overpower Kenta, or whether Kenta gave in. Because my answer is "both things are true why are we even having this conversation."
I think it’s important to note that while yes, Kenta was not lashing out at Kim with the intent to injure him during their fight, it’s not because he’s necessarily stronger than Kim. Kim has continually been portrayed as stronger than he looks, and he’s enough of a fighter that he could hurt Kenta if he wanted to.
But also, it's not even that Kenta isn't trying to hurt Kim, it's that he's not attacking Kim at all—he’s trying to push Kim away. And Kim won’t let him.
Tumblr media
Instead, he immediately deflects Kenta’s second shove, getting his wrists in between Kenta’s hands to push them out of the way—he’s a fighter, he knows defensive techniques—and then he grabs onto Kenta and refuses to let go.
Time after time this season, Kim refuses to let Kenta isolate himself. He doesn't let Kenta run off by himself to see Pete, he rescues him when he does go off alone, and here, when Kenta tries to physically push him away, Kim immediately disarms that attempt.
It's why the moment when Kenta tells Kim to trust him in Tony's lair is so pivotal. Because Kim has spent this entire season trying to stay by Kenta's side, and Kenta finally gets him to let go by playing on Kim's desire to establish trust between them. Because part of that trust means giving Kenta the right to choose, even when it kills Kim inside. Because Kim may be assertive and domineering, but that doesn't mean he wants to control Kenta.
Tumblr media
Tony would have demanded Kenta sacrifice himself. Pete demanded Kenta not go at all. Kim knows he has to let Kenta make this choice. And Kenta knows he can insist because it's not the first important choice Kim has given him that day either.
Tumblr media
When they finally kiss, Kenta immediately goes still, he stops fighting—and Kim does the same. Kim stops fighting too, he stops pushing, he holds himself right there. He lets Kenta read his intentions without taking anything from Kenta. He doesn’t deepen the kiss when he could, even when his mouth is twitching against Kenta’s, when he wants to do more. Kenta submits, and Kim does not take advantage of that, and that is so important. He lets his grip up, he caresses Kenta's hands, he gives Kenta the space to reject him.
Kenta's submission in this moment is meaningful, but not because Kim is weaker than him and Kenta could easily throw him off—it's because Kim gives him the choice to push him away. And Kenta stays there until Kim ends the kiss, he doesn't pull away until after Kim asks him to consider his feelings.
Kim isn’t strong because Kenta lets him be strong—he’s strong because he is strong, both in his body and in his will, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Kenta gives in to him.
I’ve said this before, but KimKenta are so complimentary to each other, and it’s really important to understand how the concept of balance plays into their dynamic, both in their physicality and in their personalities. Both of them are strong. Both of them are stubborn. Both of them are falling for each other. Kim has a domineering personality, but that doesn’t mean he's controlling, and while Kenta may often submit to others, he’s not going to be a puppet anymore—and this is part of what makes them so good with each other.

Kim's physical strength
Kim "holds back against a special alpha, overpowers men twice his size, needs two trained bodyguards to keep him contained even when injured, manhandles Kenta constantly, stronger than he looks" Minsu

I know Pit Babe is only focusing on the "key scenes" for Kim and Kenta, but considering how long they have been living together now, I am feeling very deprived of a montage of all the time they've spent just hanging out together.
Because they've had a hell of a lot of downtime between the action.
It may have just been a translation thing, but I love the idea that Kim called Kenta "assistant" because he's started helping Kim cook.
Kim has maybe started teaching Kenta some Korean. Kenta shows off some of his knife tricks.
Kenta doesn't know much about tv or movies, so Kim has been introducing him to some of the classics. Kenta doesn't like tragic works much, but ends up being a sucker for romance.
One night Kenta falls asleep in front of the tv, and when he wakes up (covered with a blanket, of course), he realizes he's never felt safe enough to just fall asleep in front of someone before.
Kim thinks he's going to destroy Kenta at chess, but Kenta wins in about 8 moves, and it's pretty much the first time Kim hasn't won a board game in ages. He's totally charmed by it.
(I am totally thinking about them a very normal amount, how could you possibly think otherwise)

The acting/directing choice to make Kim so bold and confident, never embarrassed or shy, never second guessing himself, just a straight up what you see is what you get guy, is so solid and must be so reassuring for Kenta. Like after that kiss Kim could have looked away, he could have averted his eyes for a millisecond, he could have made himself smaller, just for a moment then recovered. He could have let doubt crept in. But he never did. He stood tall, and strong and stable. He backed his actions and never showed any sign of regret or shame. Just a fully committed, emotionally and mentally healthy guy. His emotions don’t change with the wind and he’s so clear about this with his facial expressions, his actions, his posture and his gaze.
It’s a hell of an acting choice, one that takes real insight and courage. It’s easy to play the person who feels everything, whose emotions are easily swayed, affected by the tiniest perceived slight . Playing such a solid, proud, stable and unaffected person is a very different choice and makes for a great fucking story.
A++ five stars. Those few seconds standing up after the back of the couch kiss was riviting acting from Benz.

Kim is really going to be so great for Kenta. In season 1, I was shipping Pete with Kenta so hard, but like, after everything, I get why Kim is so perfect for Kenta.
Like Kim has been such a straightforward character in both seasons. He doesn't brag or show false bravado but has this quiet confidence in himself. Like he is assured but not cocky, in everything. He calls a spade a spade, and yet isn't unkind. He doesn't have any superpowers, and still, he feels like the MOST dependable character. There's like no drama, no fuss, with him.
Kim like understands Kenta's 'love' for Pete, and even if he begins to care for Kenta more than just roommates, he doesn't get like crazy jealous or possessive, or overwhelm Kenta with his own feelings. But still, he stands his ground and fights Kenta when Kenta panics and becomes unreasonable.
And finally, Kim kisses Kenta LIKE HE MEANS IT. Like, there is no way anyone, especially Kenta, should mistake it for anything other than care, affection, want, and perhaps even love. And that is SO IMPORTANT for someone as traumatized as KENTA. To not have ambiguity, to not second-guess someone's intentions.
All in all, this is to say Kim Minsu has become my favorite character in the Pit Babe universe, and he might just be one of the most green flag characters in recent times. Kenta-Kim has my whole, entire heart.
Tumblr media
Kim is perfect for Kenta because, as it turns out, what Kenta needs is to get away from the trauma and the reminders of his pain and the people who say they want to protect but always end up protecting someone else.
Kenta needs a new life. He isn't Charlie or Babe or Jeff who all bonded with each other and build that family. Kenta had Pete but he never had Pete because Pete never loved him the same way and couldn't love him that way and can barely take care of him as a brother when anyone he's more interested in shows up. Kenta tried desperately to be loyal to his father because no one else was and it turned out that didn't matter either.
Kim is Kenta's true release because Kim isn't part of everything that's hurt Kenta for his entire life. Kim is calm in the storm, a safe haven, a place where Kenta is cared for and is protected and is, for the first time in his life, more than a tool.
Tumblr media
Kim gives Kenta a chance to be a person and that why they're so good together. Pete could never do that. No one else could do that. Everyone else is too wrapped up in in his own trauma and his past and theirs to see him as the person he is and could become.
Only Kim could see past all of that and see that hurt and desperate man that needs a gentle hand and a lot of coaxing and a lot of protection to start a new life.
Anyway.
They are precious to me even if they did break up KimNorthSonic and left my chaos boys in a tailspin instead of a happy throuple.

Will Kenta be surprised when Kim comes to rescue him or is he waiting to see what happens, waiting to see if he can trust this chance at love? Will Kenta be shocked to be released or has Kim convinced him that he cares and that he won't leave him behind?
And how surprised is Pete going to be when Kim insists on buying a gun and rescuing Kenta and not leaving him behind regardless of him making a mistake? How is Pete going to handle knowing that Kim cares for Kenta more than he ever did or could?

What are we to each other?
I'm just slowly collecting these parallels for future purposes bc screencaps can't do this shit justice.
There's so much to be said about the contrast between these scenes, about the way Pete leaves and the way Kim refuses to let Kenta go on his own. Pete is almost passive in the face of Kenta's outburst, while Kim rises to Kenta's level of emotion- he meets Kenta where he's at. He tells Kenta all the things they are to each other, and more than that- what he wants them to be in the future.
Kenta is left reeling after both confrontations, but for entirely different reasons. When Pete walked away, Kenta was left feeling shattered and broken, but when Kim kisses him, it's almost like something slots into place for Kenta. Like he realizes that he's finally on the same page as someone else, even if he doesn't know what to do with that just yet.

“Trauma permanently changes us. This is the frightening truth about betrayal. You never really get over it. At best, you grieve and make some kind of peace with it. But a major life disruption leaves a new normal behind. There’s no going back to who you were before.”
