wip wednesday

was tagged by the wonderful @durgewyll for wip wednesday (thank you 🫶) so 20 minutes before midnight here's a snippet fron one of a few wips i'm poking at for yvaine....durge on the brain!! hopefully will have more time & energy soon to work on more fic & art

The tieflings moved through the Grove like nervous prey, or innocents awaiting word on their imminent executions. They moved like creatures terrified of dying, mewling ilk desperate to live.  It was almost too much to bear. Nauseating. Pathetic. Fecklessly easy prey…But so much potential. This wasn’t right. It was wrong. Yvaine knew that much.  It should matter that these people suffer unjustly, that they would soon be cast out like animals to slaughter, free for the feasting by the countless predators that hungered in the wilderness beyond. It should matter. It should matter. She knew this. But it didn’t. It didn’t matter. Not to them. 

Yvaine knew she should care, that she should feel moved by their struggle, by their desperation, by the apathetic cruelty and passivity of the druids in this so-called “Sacred Grove…”  It disgusted them, it grated them, but it didn’t matter to them. Not in the grand scheme of things. Like a pebble in her shoe, it bothered her, it brought her discomfort. 

We are above such things.

The Silver Lady proclaimed that acceptance and kindness were the principles that her faithful should uphold. Helpful and friendly to the lonesome and the good, forgiving and understanding to those in need.  The weak were to be helped, healed, protected. It was Yvaine’s duty to uphold the Moonmaiden’s ordainments, to carry out her will. The only Silver your obeisance is owed to is the one that cuts, carves, dances, rips, tears, severs, slices, shreds!  The blade, the tooth, the claw, anything to rend the revulsion of life into sweet, perfect red oblivion.  No no no no. “Wretched thing. Pull yourself together.”
